The launch of the service to historic Chiang Mai is scheduled to start on December 12 later this year.</p>

<p>Qatar Airways said its new service to Pattaya will help to reinforce the strong ties between Qatar and Thailand. Qatar Airways currently operates flights to three destinations in Thailand, with services 35 times a week to Bangkok, 14 times a week to Phuket and daily to Krabi commencing from December 1.</p>

<p>Qatar Airways currently holds the title of &lsquo;Airline of The Year&rsquo; as awarded by the prestigious 2017 Skytrax World Airline Awards. <p>On Monday, the second dayAnchor of the summit, these startups will be pitching their ideas to the investors from India as well to the Nepali investors. The Indian startup enabler platform Chatur Ideas will also sign an agreement regarding the partnership with ESOS Global during the event. Chatur Ideas has till now worked with 650 startups from India, US, Singapore, as well as Canadian startups and has 1500 investors from India and the Silicon Valley.</p>

In terms of criteria, Mehta shared that the investors in India would prefer the companies which are focusing on cross-border market for the investment.&nbsp;</p>

<p>&ldquo;The Nepali startups should not only focus on the domestic market, but they should target other markets including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan and few other similar South Asian countries,&rdquo; Mehta said.&nbsp; He shared that Spinta would love to open its accelerator here and work with the government and financial institutions such as banks. <p>NT informed that it had hired tractors and porters to transport the equipment to Badhu and Bichha from Bajura&rsquo;s headquarters, Martadi. It takes at least two days to reach Badhu from the district headquarters and four days to reach Bichha. NT further informed that the BTS towers at the two places are being operated by using solar and VSAT technologies. NT said it has also distributed Sim cards free of cost at those areas.</p>

With the launch of this service, Smart Telecom has become the third telecom service provider of the country provide the service.</p>

<p>Organizing a press meet in Kathmandu on October 28, Smart Telecom informed that it has rolled out the fourth generation internet service in Kathmandu valley and Pokhara in the first phase.</p>

<p>The company also claimed that its customers can use high-speed internet service compared to other service providers, as the company has allocated more frequency in comparison to other telecommunication companies.</p>

<p>Speaking at the launching ceremony, Nagendra Das, head of the Commercial Department of Smart Telecom said that the users can enjoy internet with speed of 70 Mbps.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The service we will be providing will have more quality in comparison to other service providers. We have allocated 10 MHz frequency of 1800 MHz band for 4G service,&rdquo; he said.</p>

<p>The company in the second phase plans to expand the service to Nepalgunj, Chitwan and Birgunj. According to the company, this is the soft launch of the service, as it will be providing the full-fledged service within the next two months.</p>

<p>Currently, the company has a total of 1.5 million users which includes both data and voice users. The company is currently providing telecommunication service in 31 districts.</p>

<p>The company said that it has allowed its customers to make call to other network at low rates. Other service providers have been charging higher rates while making call to Smart Telecom network, which has hit our network, claimed the company.</p>

<p>Smart Telecom, which got unified license in 2013, received permission to operate 4G service some five months back.</p>

<p>Discussing the viability of inland waterways as an alternate mode of transport connectivity opening up new avenues of livelihood for the affected locals and trade facilitation opportunities in the Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal (BBIN) region, Jaipur-based civil society organization CUTS International organized a &lsquo;Sub-Regional Dialogue on Inland Waterways&rsquo; under its project titled &lsquo;Expanding Tradable Benefits of Trans-boundary Water: Promoting Navigational Usage of Inland Waterways in Ganga and Brahmaputra Basins&rsquo; on October 26-27 in Kolkata, the statement said.</p>

<p>Aiming to create an alternate policy discourse between policy-makers, civil society and communities for enabling reform measures and better governance of inland waterways and sharing knowledge between governments and civil society on inland waterways, this sub-regional dialogue brought together more than 80 stakeholders from governments, academia, civil society and international organisations from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar and Nepal, according to SAWTEE.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In regard to utilising the opportunities presented by India&#39;s investment in developing its inland waterways for the advantage of Nepal, former commerce secretary of Nepal and trade expert Purushottam Ojha pointed out the need to review the existing Nepal-India Treaty of Transit to include a provision giving Nepal right to use India&#39;s inland waterways for ferrying the cargos coming from or bound to Nepal.</p>

<p>Pravir Pandey, vice chairman of Inland Water Transport Authority of India, Ministry of Shipping, Government of India pointed out that works are underway to encourage the use of multimodal transport service for a portion of cargos bound to Nepal through inland waterways up to Kalu Ghat Terminus from where freight could be transported on trucks to Nepali borders.</p>

<p>Welcoming the participants, Bipul Chatterjee, executive director of CUTS International said that over the last few years this subject has gained better political traction in the region. Development of sustainable and economically viable inland waterways sector in this sub-region can not only contribute towards achieving sustainable development goals through poverty reduction and job creation but also have the potential to make regional cooperation process more inclusive. He emphasized on localisation of civil society discourse for fostering regional cooperation in eastern South Asia.</p>

<p>Sagar Prasai, country representative of The Asia Foundation, New Delhi told the audience that for a long time, South Asian countries have neglected possible tradable benefits of water. &ldquo;Inland waterways navigation at regional level has never come in our discussion despite having historical significance. Land-locked countries can get access to sea by using the existing waterways of neighboring countries and can gain economic benefit of regional connectivity,&rdquo; he said.</p>

<p>Shantanu Mitra, senior climate and environment advisor to DFID Asia Regional Team, British High Commission, New Delhi stressed on the need for regional connectivity through multi-modal means. &ldquo;Ineffective policies and under-developed supply chains are some of the major obstacles in the way of regional cooperation. Thus, regional initiatives like this are particularly important for land-locked countries,&rdquo; he said.</p>

<p>The event was supported by The Asia Foundation under the Civil Society Fund of South Asia Water Governance Programme of the United Kingdom&rsquo;s Department for International Development.</p>

Issuing a press statement, Nepal Telecom said that the service has been started in Badhu and Bichha of Bajura. NT claimed that there was no telecommunication service in these two places earlier. NT&rsquo;s Spokesperson Pratibha Baidhya informed that the communication station set up at Badhu on October 17 has been probiding telecommunication services in places like Pandav Gufa, Swamikartik and some areas of Budhinanda Municipality of Bajura as well as Mugu district&rsquo;s Sukhadhik, Kotdanda, Hyaglu and eastern parts of Kalikot district. According to Baidhya, around 4,000 households of this region have benefitted from this service.</p>

<p>&nbsp;Likewise, the station set up at Bichha has benefitted 3,000 households of Bichha, Rugin, Madana and Maila VDCs.</p>

<p>NT informed that it had hired tractors and porters to transport the equipment to Badhu and Bichha from Bajura&rsquo;s headquarters, Martadi. It takes at least two days to reach Badhu from the district headquarters and four days to reach Bichha. NT further informed that the BTS towers at the two places are being operated by using solar and VSAT technologies. NT said it has also distributed Sim cards free of cost at those areas.</p>

<p>Currently, the company has a total of 1.5 million users which includes both data and voice users. The company is currently providing telecommunication service in 31 districts.</p>

<p>The company said that it has allowed its customers to make call to other network at low rates. Other service providers have been charging higher rates while making call to Smart Telecom network, which has hit our network, claimed the company.</p>

<p>Smart Telecom, which got unified license in 2013, received permission to operate 4G service some five months back.</p>

<p>Discussing the viability of inland waterways as an alternate mode of transport connectivity opening up new avenues of livelihood for the affected locals and trade facilitation opportunities in the Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal (BBIN) region, Jaipur-based civil society organization CUTS International organized a &lsquo;Sub-Regional Dialogue on Inland Waterways&rsquo; under its project titled &lsquo;Expanding Tradable Benefits of Trans-boundary Water: Promoting Navigational Usage of Inland Waterways in Ganga and Brahmaputra Basins&rsquo; on October 26-27 in Kolkata, the statement said.</p>

<p>Aiming to create an alternate policy discourse between policy-makers, civil society and communities for enabling reform measures and better governance of inland waterways and sharing knowledge between governments and civil society on inland waterways, this sub-regional dialogue brought together more than 80 stakeholders from governments, academia, civil society and international organisations from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar and Nepal, according to SAWTEE.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In regard to utilising the opportunities presented by India&#39;s investment in developing its inland waterways for the advantage of Nepal, former commerce secretary of Nepal and trade expert Purushottam Ojha pointed out the need to review the existing Nepal-India Treaty of Transit to include a provision giving Nepal right to use India&#39;s inland waterways for ferrying the cargos coming from or bound to Nepal.</p>

<p>Pravir Pandey, vice chairman of Inland Water Transport Authority of India, Ministry of Shipping, Government of India pointed out that works are underway to encourage the use of multimodal transport service for a portion of cargos bound to Nepal through inland waterways up to Kalu Ghat Terminus from where freight could be transported on trucks to Nepali borders.</p>

<p>Welcoming the participants, Bipul Chatterjee, executive director of CUTS International said that over the last few years this subject has gained better political traction in the region. Development of sustainable and economically viable inland waterways sector in this sub-region can not only contribute towards achieving sustainable development goals through poverty reduction and job creation but also have the potential to make regional cooperation process more inclusive. He emphasized on localisation of civil society discourse for fostering regional cooperation in eastern South Asia.</p>

<p>Sagar Prasai, country representative of The Asia Foundation, New Delhi told the audience that for a long time, South Asian countries have neglected possible tradable benefits of water. &ldquo;Inland waterways navigation at regional level has never come in our discussion despite having historical significance. Land-locked countries can get access to sea by using the existing waterways of neighboring countries and can gain economic benefit of regional connectivity,&rdquo; he said.</p>

<p>Shantanu Mitra, senior climate and environment advisor to DFID Asia Regional Team, British High Commission, New Delhi stressed on the need for regional connectivity through multi-modal means. &ldquo;Ineffective policies and under-developed supply chains are some of the major obstacles in the way of regional cooperation. Thus, regional initiatives like this are particularly important for land-locked countries,&rdquo; he said.</p>

<p>The event was supported by The Asia Foundation under the Civil Society Fund of South Asia Water Governance Programme of the United Kingdom&rsquo;s Department for International Development.</p>

<p>Qatar Airways said it will operate a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, with 22 seats in Business Class and 232 seats in Economy Class on flights between Doha and U-Tapao Rayong Pattaya International Airport, on its winter schedule.</p>

<p>Qatar Airways said its new service to Pattaya will help to reinforce the strong ties between Qatar and Thailand. Qatar Airways currently operates flights to three destinations in Thailand, with services 35 times a week to Bangkok, 14 times a week to Phuket and daily to Krabi commencing from December 1.</p>

<p>Qatar Airways currently holds the title of &lsquo;Airline of The Year&rsquo; as awarded by the prestigious 2017 Skytrax World Airline Awards. So, this is a strategic opportunity for India to take a big step to penetrate and invest in Nepal,&rdquo; he said. In terms of criteria, Mehta shared that the investors in India would prefer the companies which are focusing on cross-border market for the investment.&nbsp;</p>

<p>&ldquo;The Nepali startups should not only focus on the domestic market, but they should target other markets including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan and few other similar South Asian countries,&rdquo; Mehta said.&nbsp; He shared that Spinta would love to open its accelerator here and work with the government and financial institutions such as banks. Mehta and Chawla urged the government of Nepal to form startup policy for the proper growth of startups.</p>

<p>Currently, the company has a total of 1.5 million users which includes both data and voice users. The company is currently providing telecommunication service in 31 districts.</p>

<p>The company said that it has allowed its customers to make call to other network at low rates. Other service providers have been charging higher rates while making call to Smart Telecom network, which has hit our network, claimed the company.</p>

<p>Smart Telecom, which got unified license in 2013, received permission to operate 4G service some five months back.</p>

<p>Discussing the viability of inland waterways as an alternate mode of transport connectivity opening up new avenues of livelihood for the affected locals and trade facilitation opportunities in the Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal (BBIN) region, Jaipur-based civil society organization CUTS International organized a &lsquo;Sub-Regional Dialogue on Inland Waterways&rsquo; under its project titled &lsquo;Expanding Tradable Benefits of Trans-boundary Water: Promoting Navigational Usage of Inland Waterways in Ganga and Brahmaputra Basins&rsquo; on October 26-27 in Kolkata, the statement said.</p>

<p>Aiming to create an alternate policy discourse between policy-makers, civil society and communities for enabling reform measures and better governance of inland waterways and sharing knowledge between governments and civil society on inland waterways, this sub-regional dialogue brought together more than 80 stakeholders from governments, academia, civil society and international organisations from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar and Nepal, according to SAWTEE.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In regard to utilising the opportunities presented by India&#39;s investment in developing its inland waterways for the advantage of Nepal, former commerce secretary of Nepal and trade expert Purushottam Ojha pointed out the need to review the existing Nepal-India Treaty of Transit to include a provision giving Nepal right to use India&#39;s inland waterways for ferrying the cargos coming from or bound to Nepal.</p>

<p>Pravir Pandey, vice chairman of Inland Water Transport Authority of India, Ministry of Shipping, Government of India pointed out that works are underway to encourage the use of multimodal transport service for a portion of cargos bound to Nepal through inland waterways up to Kalu Ghat Terminus from where freight could be transported on trucks to Nepali borders.</p>

<p>Welcoming the participants, Bipul Chatterjee, executive director of CUTS International said that over the last few years this subject has gained better political traction in the region. Development of sustainable and economically viable inland waterways sector in this sub-region can not only contribute towards achieving sustainable development goals through poverty reduction and job creation but also have the potential to make regional cooperation process more inclusive. He emphasized on localisation of civil society discourse for fostering regional cooperation in eastern South Asia.</p>

<p>Sagar Prasai, country representative of The Asia Foundation, New Delhi told the audience that for a long time, South Asian countries have neglected possible tradable benefits of water. &ldquo;Inland waterways navigation at regional level has never come in our discussion despite having historical significance. Land-locked countries can get access to sea by using the existing waterways of neighboring countries and can gain economic benefit of regional connectivity,&rdquo; he said.</p>

<p>Shantanu Mitra, senior climate and environment advisor to DFID Asia Regional Team, British High Commission, New Delhi stressed on the need for regional connectivity through multi-modal means. &ldquo;Ineffective policies and under-developed supply chains are some of the major obstacles in the way of regional cooperation. Thus, regional initiatives like this are particularly important for land-locked countries,&rdquo; he said.</p>

<p>The event was supported by The Asia Foundation under the Civil Society Fund of South Asia Water Governance Programme of the United Kingdom&rsquo;s Department for International Development.</p>

With the launch of this service, Smart Telecom has become the third telecom service provider of the country provide the service.</p>

<p>Organizing a press meet in Kathmandu on October 28, Smart Telecom informed that it has rolled out the fourth generation internet service in Kathmandu valley and Pokhara in the first phase.</p>

<p>The company also claimed that its customers can use high-speed internet service compared to other service providers, as the company has allocated more frequency in comparison to other telecommunication companies.</p>

<p>Speaking at the launching ceremony, Nagendra Das, head of the Commercial Department of Smart Telecom said that the users can enjoy internet with speed of 70 Mbps.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The service we will be providing will have more quality in comparison to other service providers. We have allocated 10 MHz frequency of 1800 MHz band for 4G service,&rdquo; he said.</p>

<p>The company in the second phase plans to expand the service to Nepalgunj, Chitwan and Birgunj. According to the company, this is the soft launch of the service, as it will be providing the full-fledged service within the next two months.</p>

<p>Currently, the company has a total of 1.5 million users which includes both data and voice users. The company is currently providing telecommunication service in 31 districts.</p>

<p>The company said that it has allowed its customers to make call to other network at low rates. Other service providers have been charging higher rates while making call to Smart Telecom network, which has hit our network, claimed the company.</p>

<p>Smart Telecom, which got unified license in 2013, received permission to operate 4G service some five months back.</p>

<p>&nbsp;Issuing a press statement, South Asia Watch on Trade Economics and Environment (SAWTEE) said that the experts expressed such views during an event organised in Kolkata on October 26-27.</p>

<p>Discussing the viability of inland waterways as an alternate mode of transport connectivity opening up new avenues of livelihood for the affected locals and trade facilitation opportunities in the Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal (BBIN) region, Jaipur-based civil society organization CUTS International organized a &lsquo;Sub-Regional Dialogue on Inland Waterways&rsquo; under its project titled &lsquo;Expanding Tradable Benefits of Trans-boundary Water: Promoting Navigational Usage of Inland Waterways in Ganga and Brahmaputra Basins&rsquo; on October 26-27 in Kolkata, the statement said.</p>

<p>Aiming to create an alternate policy discourse between policy-makers, civil society and communities for enabling reform measures and better governance of inland waterways and sharing knowledge between governments and civil society on inland waterways, this sub-regional dialogue brought together more than 80 stakeholders from governments, academia, civil society and international organisations from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar and Nepal, according to SAWTEE.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In regard to utilising the opportunities presented by India&#39;s investment in developing its inland waterways for the advantage of Nepal, former commerce secretary of Nepal and trade expert Purushottam Ojha pointed out the need to review the existing Nepal-India Treaty of Transit to include a provision giving Nepal right to use India&#39;s inland waterways for ferrying the cargos coming from or bound to Nepal.</p>

<p>Pravir Pandey, vice chairman of Inland Water Transport Authority of India, Ministry of Shipping, Government of India pointed out that works are underway to encourage the use of multimodal transport service for a portion of cargos bound to Nepal through inland waterways up to Kalu Ghat Terminus from where freight could be transported on trucks to Nepali borders.</p>

<p>Welcoming the participants, Bipul Chatterjee, executive director of CUTS International said that over the last few years this subject has gained better political traction in the region. Development of sustainable and economically viable inland waterways sector in this sub-region can not only contribute towards achieving sustainable development goals through poverty reduction and job creation but also have the potential to make regional cooperation process more inclusive. He emphasized on localisation of civil society discourse for fostering regional cooperation in eastern South Asia.</p>

<p>Sagar Prasai, country representative of The Asia Foundation, New Delhi told the audience that for a long time, South Asian countries have neglected possible tradable benefits of water. &ldquo;Inland waterways navigation at regional level has never come in our discussion despite having historical significance. Land-locked countries can get access to sea by using the existing waterways of neighboring countries and can gain economic benefit of regional connectivity,&rdquo; he said.</p>

<p>Shantanu Mitra, senior climate and environment advisor to DFID Asia Regional Team, British High Commission, New Delhi stressed on the need for regional connectivity through multi-modal means. &ldquo;Ineffective policies and under-developed supply chains are some of the major obstacles in the way of regional cooperation. Thus, regional initiatives like this are particularly important for land-locked countries,&rdquo; he said.</p>

<p>The event was supported by The Asia Foundation under the Civil Society Fund of South Asia Water Governance Programme of the United Kingdom&rsquo;s Department for International Development.</p>
