<p>Importers in Nepal have been paying hefty fines to the harbour after failing to clear the containers in time due to problems in transporting them. The transportation of the goods has been affected by various hurdles that have ensued with the Indian Railways used for carrying the goods up to the Nepali border.</p>

<p>Nepal extensively relies on Kolkata port for import and export of goods. Ashok Kumar Temani, coordinator of the road and transportation committee of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, said that the problem has been mounting due to the failure to address the issue since years.</p>

<p>According to Temani, the containers have been stuck in Kolkata since a month. After unloading the containers, the shipping companies provide a maximum of 21 days&rsquo; time to clear the goods. However, the goods get stuck for a month at the harbor itself, say the entrepreneurs.</p>

<p>&ldquo;We have been facing such problems as our government is not serious about this issue,&rdquo; said Temani.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Importers have been forced to pay a fine of up to Rs 300,000 for a single container,&rdquo; he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to informed sources, the state-owned oil monopoly decided to revoke its decision to hike fuel prices upon the instructions of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, who expressed his annoyance saying that the decision could impact the election results.</p>

<p>NOC had earlier decided to hike the prices effective from Wednesday midnight. As per the instructions of PM Deuba, Minister for Supplies Jayant Chand instructed NOC to withdraw the price hike. NOC said that the petroleum products will now be available at the same old rates. &nbsp;</p>

<p>NOC said it hiked the prices on November 1 to adjust with the price hike of crude oil in the international market. NOC had increased Rs 2 per litre on petrol, diesel and kerosene while it had raised the price of cooking gas (LPG) by Rs 25. According to NOC, the prime minister&rsquo;s instruction to withdraw price hike will cause a loss of Rs 220 million.</p>

<p>The 15th annual edition of Doing Business report published by the WB on October 31 has commended greater corporate transparency in Nepal during last year.</p>

<p>According to the report, Nepal&rsquo;s economy ranks third among South Asian countries in terms of business environment.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The region&rsquo;s top ranked economies are Bhutan, in 75th place, India (100), and Nepal (105),&rdquo; the report states.</p>

<p>According to the report, South Asian economies carried out a record 20 business reforms in the past year, bringing to a total of 127 the number of reforms enacted in the region over the past 15 years.</p>

<p>A major focus of reforms in the past year were in the area of protecting minority investors, with half of the region&rsquo;s eight economies implementing measures to strengthen protections for minority shareholders.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The reforms included enhanced remedies to address cases of prejudicial transactions between interested parties in India; rules to clarify ownership and control structures in Bhutan; greater corporate transparency in Nepal; and facilitating legal action against directors in case of prejudicial transactions with interested parties in Pakistan,&rdquo; the report states.</p>

<p>&nbsp;&ldquo;With three-quarters of regional economies making positive reforms, it&rsquo;s no surprise that this is a record year for regional reforms. India, as the largest economy in the region, is leading by example with its eight reforms,&rdquo; said Rita Ramalho, acting director of the World Bank&rsquo;s Global Indicators Group, which produces the report Doing Business 2018: Reforming to Create Jobs.</p>

<p>&nbsp;Other reforms in India also included the creation of an online single window system to enhance the process of dealing with construction permits; consolidating forms for starting a business; and reducing paperwork for paying taxes; and introduction of new insolvency and bankruptcy code to make resolving insolvency easier, the reports states.</p>

<p>&nbsp;Bhutan, the region&rsquo;s top-ranked economy, also implemented four reforms to make it easier to register a new business, improve access to credit, and enhance the enforcement of contracts.</p>

<p>&nbsp;The report says that the region&rsquo;s economies perform well in the doing business areas of &lsquo;protecting minority investors&rsquo; and &lsquo;staring a business&rsquo;. Registering a new business, for example, takes an average of 15.5 days, which is faster than the current global average of 20 days, and a significant improvement over the 50 days it took to start a business in the region 15 years ago.</p>

<p>The region lags in areas such as registering property and resolving insolvency. It takes an average of 112 days to register property in South Asia, compared with the global average of 49.5 days. And, creditors for resolving insolvency recover about one-third of the property value, which is less than half of the recovery rate of 71.2 percent in OECD high-income economies.</p>

<p>Importers in Nepal have been paying hefty fines to the harbour after failing to clear the containers in time due to problems in transporting them. The transportation of the goods has been affected by various hurdles that have ensued with the Indian Railways used for carrying the goods up to the Nepali border.</p>

<p>Nepal extensively relies on Kolkata port for import and export of goods. Ashok Kumar Temani, coordinator of the road and transportation committee of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, said that the problem has been mounting due to the failure to address the issue since years.</p>

<p>According to Temani, the containers have been stuck in Kolkata since a month. After unloading the containers, the shipping companies provide a maximum of 21 days&rsquo; time to clear the goods. However, the goods get stuck for a month at the harbor itself, say the entrepreneurs.</p>

<p>&ldquo;We have been facing such problems as our government is not serious about this issue,&rdquo; said Temani.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Importers have been forced to pay a fine of up to Rs 300,000 for a single container,&rdquo; he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>NOC had earlier decided to hike the prices effective from Wednesday midnight. As per the instructions of PM Deuba, Minister for Supplies Jayant Chand instructed NOC to withdraw the price hike. NOC said that the petroleum products will now be available at the same old rates. &nbsp;</p>

<p>NOC said it hiked the prices on November 1 to adjust with the price hike of crude oil in the international market. NOC had increased Rs 2 per litre on petrol, diesel and kerosene while it had raised the price of cooking gas (LPG) by Rs 25. According to NOC, the prime minister&rsquo;s instruction to withdraw price hike will cause a loss of Rs 220 million.</p>

<p>The 15th annual edition of Doing Business report published by the WB on October 31 has commended greater corporate transparency in Nepal during last year.</p>

<p>According to the report, Nepal&rsquo;s economy ranks third among South Asian countries in terms of business environment.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The region&rsquo;s top ranked economies are Bhutan, in 75th place, India (100), and Nepal (105),&rdquo; the report states.</p>

<p>According to the report, South Asian economies carried out a record 20 business reforms in the past year, bringing to a total of 127 the number of reforms enacted in the region over the past 15 years.</p>

<p>A major focus of reforms in the past year were in the area of protecting minority investors, with half of the region&rsquo;s eight economies implementing measures to strengthen protections for minority shareholders.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The reforms included enhanced remedies to address cases of prejudicial transactions between interested parties in India; rules to clarify ownership and control structures in Bhutan; greater corporate transparency in Nepal; and facilitating legal action against directors in case of prejudicial transactions with interested parties in Pakistan,&rdquo; the report states.</p>

<p>&nbsp;&ldquo;With three-quarters of regional economies making positive reforms, it&rsquo;s no surprise that this is a record year for regional reforms. India, as the largest economy in the region, is leading by example with its eight reforms,&rdquo; said Rita Ramalho, acting director of the World Bank&rsquo;s Global Indicators Group, which produces the report Doing Business 2018: Reforming to Create Jobs.</p>

<p>&nbsp;Other reforms in India also included the creation of an online single window system to enhance the process of dealing with construction permits; consolidating forms for starting a business; and reducing paperwork for paying taxes; and introduction of new insolvency and bankruptcy code to make resolving insolvency easier, the reports states.</p>

<p>&nbsp;Bhutan, the region&rsquo;s top-ranked economy, also implemented four reforms to make it easier to register a new business, improve access to credit, and enhance the enforcement of contracts.</p>

<p>&nbsp;The report says that the region&rsquo;s economies perform well in the doing business areas of &lsquo;protecting minority investors&rsquo; and &lsquo;staring a business&rsquo;. Registering a new business, for example, takes an average of 15.5 days, which is faster than the current global average of 20 days, and a significant improvement over the 50 days it took to start a business in the region 15 years ago.</p>

<p>The region lags in areas such as registering property and resolving insolvency. It takes an average of 112 days to register property in South Asia, compared with the global average of 49.5 days. And, creditors for resolving insolvency recover about one-third of the property value, which is less than half of the recovery rate of 71.2 percent in OECD high-income economies.</p>

<p>Importers in Nepal have been paying hefty fines to the harbour after failing to clear the containers in time due to problems in transporting them. The transportation of the goods has been affected by various hurdles that have ensued with the Indian Railways used for carrying the goods up to the Nepali border.</p>

<p>Nepal extensively relies on Kolkata port for import and export of goods. Ashok Kumar Temani, coordinator of the road and transportation committee of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, said that the problem has been mounting due to the failure to address the issue since years.</p>

<p>According to Temani, the containers have been stuck in Kolkata since a month. After unloading the containers, the shipping companies provide a maximum of 21 days&rsquo; time to clear the goods. However, the goods get stuck for a month at the harbor itself, say the entrepreneurs.</p>

<p>&ldquo;We have been facing such problems as our government is not serious about this issue,&rdquo; said Temani.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Importers have been forced to pay a fine of up to Rs 300,000 for a single container,&rdquo; he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>NOC had earlier decided to hike the prices effective from Wednesday midnight. As per the instructions of PM Deuba, Minister for Supplies Jayant Chand instructed NOC to withdraw the price hike. NOC said that the petroleum products will now be available at the same old rates. &nbsp;</p>

<p>NOC said it hiked the prices on November 1 to adjust with the price hike of crude oil in the international market. NOC had increased Rs 2 per litre on petrol, diesel and kerosene while it had raised the price of cooking gas (LPG) by Rs 25. According to NOC, the prime minister&rsquo;s instruction to withdraw price hike will cause a loss of Rs 220 million.</p>

<p>The 15th annual edition of Doing Business report published by the WB on October 31 has commended greater corporate transparency in Nepal during last year.</p>

<p>According to the report, Nepal&rsquo;s economy ranks third among South Asian countries in terms of business environment.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The region&rsquo;s top ranked economies are Bhutan, in 75th place, India (100), and Nepal (105),&rdquo; the report states.</p>

<p>According to the report, South Asian economies carried out a record 20 business reforms in the past year, bringing to a total of 127 the number of reforms enacted in the region over the past 15 years.</p>

<p>A major focus of reforms in the past year were in the area of protecting minority investors, with half of the region&rsquo;s eight economies implementing measures to strengthen protections for minority shareholders.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The reforms included enhanced remedies to address cases of prejudicial transactions between interested parties in India; rules to clarify ownership and control structures in Bhutan; greater corporate transparency in Nepal; and facilitating legal action against directors in case of prejudicial transactions with interested parties in Pakistan,&rdquo; the report states.</p>

<p>&nbsp;&ldquo;With three-quarters of regional economies making positive reforms, it&rsquo;s no surprise that this is a record year for regional reforms. India, as the largest economy in the region, is leading by example with its eight reforms,&rdquo; said Rita Ramalho, acting director of the World Bank&rsquo;s Global Indicators Group, which produces the report Doing Business 2018: Reforming to Create Jobs.</p>

<p>&nbsp;Other reforms in India also included the creation of an online single window system to enhance the process of dealing with construction permits; consolidating forms for starting a business; and reducing paperwork for paying taxes; and introduction of new insolvency and bankruptcy code to make resolving insolvency easier, the reports states.</p>

<p>&nbsp;Bhutan, the region&rsquo;s top-ranked economy, also implemented four reforms to make it easier to register a new business, improve access to credit, and enhance the enforcement of contracts.</p>

<p>&nbsp;The report says that the region&rsquo;s economies perform well in the doing business areas of &lsquo;protecting minority investors&rsquo; and &lsquo;staring a business&rsquo;. Registering a new business, for example, takes an average of 15.5 days, which is faster than the current global average of 20 days, and a significant improvement over the 50 days it took to start a business in the region 15 years ago.</p>

<p>The region lags in areas such as registering property and resolving insolvency. It takes an average of 112 days to register property in South Asia, compared with the global average of 49.5 days. And, creditors for resolving insolvency recover about one-third of the property value, which is less than half of the recovery rate of 71.2 percent in OECD high-income economies.</p>

The Bank has distributed 48% (30% bonus + 18% cash) for the year. The Bank has also earned a net profit of Rs 851 million in the first quarter under the current fiscal year 2017/18.</p>

<p>Importers in Nepal have been paying hefty fines to the harbour after failing to clear the containers in time due to problems in transporting them. <p>Nepal extensively relies on Kolkata port for import and export of goods. Ashok Kumar Temani, coordinator of the road and transportation committee of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, said that the problem has been mounting due to the failure to address the issue since years.</p>

<p>According to Temani, the containers have been stuck in Kolkata since a month. After unloading the containers, the shipping companies provide a maximum of 21 days&rsquo; time to clear the goods. However, the goods get stuck for a month at the harbor itself, say the entrepreneurs.</p>

<p>&ldquo;We have been facing such problems as our government is not serious about this issue,&rdquo; said Temani.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Importers have been forced to pay a fine of up to Rs 300,000 for a single container,&rdquo; he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Located in the Annapurna Circuit, many tourists prefer these two places to the view of mountain ranges and sunrise from Ghorepani and Poonhill.</p>

<p>Around 500 domestic and foreign tourists visit Poonhill, situated at an altitude of 3,210 meters from the sea level on a daily basis, on daily basis. With the start of autumn, the hotels at Ghorepani, which serves as an entrance to Poonhill, are getting packed.</p>

<p>According to Ghodepani Tourist Police Station, 5,835 foreign tourists have entered Ghorepani till October 14 this year. There are 22 hotels and lodges providing services to the tourists at Ghorepani.</p>

<p>Sushil Pun, vice-president of Ghorepani Hotel Management Sub-committee, said that the hotel entrepreneurs are expanding their capacity keeping in view the flow of tourists.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the locals in coordination with Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) have initiated a campaign for rhododendron conservation in the region.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to informed sources, the state-owned oil monopoly decided to revoke its decision to hike fuel prices upon the instructions of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, who expressed his annoyance saying that the decision could impact the election results.</p>

<p>NOC had earlier decided to hike the prices effective from Wednesday midnight. As per the instructions of PM Deuba, Minister for Supplies Jayant Chand instructed NOC to withdraw the price hike. NOC said that the petroleum products will now be available at the same old rates. &nbsp;</p>

<p>NOC said it hiked the prices on November 1 to adjust with the price hike of crude oil in the international market. NOC had increased Rs 2 per litre on petrol, diesel and kerosene while it had raised the price of cooking gas (LPG) by Rs 25. According to NOC, the prime minister&rsquo;s instruction to withdraw price hike will cause a loss of Rs 220 million.</p>

<p>The 15th annual edition of Doing Business report published by the WB on October 31 has commended greater corporate transparency in Nepal during last year.</p>

<p>According to the report, Nepal&rsquo;s economy ranks third among South Asian countries in terms of business environment.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The region&rsquo;s top ranked economies are Bhutan, in 75th place, India (100), and Nepal (105),&rdquo; the report states.</p>

<p>According to the report, South Asian economies carried out a record 20 business reforms in the past year, bringing to a total of 127 the number of reforms enacted in the region over the past 15 years.</p>

<p>A major focus of reforms in the past year were in the area of protecting minority investors, with half of the region&rsquo;s eight economies implementing measures to strengthen protections for minority shareholders.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The reforms included enhanced remedies to address cases of prejudicial transactions between interested parties in India; rules to clarify ownership and control structures in Bhutan; greater corporate transparency in Nepal; and facilitating legal action against directors in case of prejudicial transactions with interested parties in Pakistan,&rdquo; the report states.</p>

<p>&nbsp;&ldquo;With three-quarters of regional economies making positive reforms, it&rsquo;s no surprise that this is a record year for regional reforms. India, as the largest economy in the region, is leading by example with its eight reforms,&rdquo; said Rita Ramalho, acting director of the World Bank&rsquo;s Global Indicators Group, which produces the report Doing Business 2018: Reforming to Create Jobs.</p>

<p>&nbsp;Other reforms in India also included the creation of an online single window system to enhance the process of dealing with construction permits; consolidating forms for starting a business; and reducing paperwork for paying taxes; and introduction of new insolvency and bankruptcy code to make resolving insolvency easier, the reports states.</p>

<p>&nbsp;Bhutan, the region&rsquo;s top-ranked economy, also implemented four reforms to make it easier to register a new business, improve access to credit, and enhance the enforcement of contracts.</p>

<p>&nbsp;The report says that the region&rsquo;s economies perform well in the doing business areas of &lsquo;protecting minority investors&rsquo; and &lsquo;staring a business&rsquo;. Registering a new business, for example, takes an average of 15.5 days, which is faster than the current global average of 20 days, and a significant improvement over the 50 days it took to start a business in the region 15 years ago.</p>

<p>The region lags in areas such as registering property and resolving insolvency. It takes an average of 112 days to register property in South Asia, compared with the global average of 49.5 days. And, creditors for resolving insolvency recover about one-third of the property value, which is less than half of the recovery rate of 71.2 percent in OECD high-income economies.</p>
