The campaign was conducted in collaboration with the Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC) and the Himalayan Club, a Lukla-based NGO, reads a press statement issued by the company.</span></p> <p>In order to maintain the environmental quality of this region, Tara Air with the help of Himalayan Club and SPCC airlifted approximately 11,000 kg of non-biodegradable waste away from the region, operating nine flights from Lukla airport.</p> <p>The approximate cost of this sponsored service by the airline is worth over Rs 1 million. The waste products were airlifted to Kathmandu and handed over to the Kathmandu Municipality, which will distribute it to the proper recycling centers, according to Tara Air.</p> <p>“In the year 2016 we successfully managed a similar waste management campaign airlifting 12,000 kg of waste from the Solukhumbu region,” reads the statement.</p> <p>The airlines expressed its confidence that this campaign has helped in creating environmental awareness among the youth, the local entrepreneurs, and the tourists who visit this Himalayan region.</p> <p>“We hope that other private enterprises will also extend their hands in supporting such environmental campaigns in the future,” the statement said.</p> <p>Tara Air said that the company along with its sister airlines - Yeti Airlines – have been providing continuous service in the remote sectors of Nepal since 1998.
