The Ministry of Agriculture Development informed that the government is preparing the policy due to the decline in the export of cardamom in the recent times. Deputy spoke person of the ministry, Shankar Sapkota, said that the ministry has started taking suggestions, ideas and opinion from the concerned stakeholders for promotion of cardamom.</p>

<p>According to him, the ministry has taken suggestions from the National Planning Commission, Ministry of Co-operatives and Poverty Alleviation, Ministry of Land Reform and Forest to prepare the Cardamom Promotion Policy. Similarly, the ministry has also sought opinion from Finance Ministry and Ministry of Soil Conservation .</p>

<p>According to the ministry, all the ministries have given them feedbacks and suggestions except the Finance Ministry.</p>

<p>&ldquo;We sought suggestions from five different government bodies,&rdquo; Sapkota said , &ldquo;But we still have not obtained any feedback from the Finance Ministry.&rdquo;</p>

<p>Sapkota said that the policy will be finalized and forwarded to the council of ministers once they get the feedback from the Finance Ministry.</p>

<p>The draft prepared by the ministry includes various provisions keeping in view the benefits of the exporters.</p>

<p>Ministry expects that the current problems seen in the cardamom production will be automatically solved after the implementation of this policy.</p>

<p>Cardamom is one of the main cash crops of Nepal. Cardamom is exported to the foreign countries. But, as compared to the past, the export of cardamom has declined.</p>

<p>In the recent years, Nepal has been exporting cardamom worth Rs 3 to 5 billion annually. Data of Nepal Business Promotion Center show that in fiscal year 2015/16, cardamom worth around Rs 4.62 billion was exported. But the export declined to Rs 3.6 billion in FY 2016/17. The ministry informed that cardamom production takes place in 25 districts of the country.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

The 15<sup>th</sup> Handicraft Trade Fair was organized for five days from November 17 to 21.</p>

<p>Speaking at a discussion programme on the &lsquo;Role of Private Sector in Sustainable Development in Nepal&rsquo; on Tuesday (November 21) in the capital, Valerie Julliand, resident coordinator of United Nations in Nepal, said that internalizing the SDGS in business will enhance the goodwill of the business enterprise.</p>

<p>&nbsp;&ldquo;Sustainable goals are business with ethics,&rdquo; she mentioned during the programme jointly organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Nepal, Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), Global Compact Nepal, KOICA Alumni Association of Nepal (KAAN) and United Nations Development Project (UNDP).</p>

<p>&ldquo;SDGs is a more holistic approach to development,&rdquo; said Swarnim Wagle, vice chair of the National Planning Commission (NPC). Differentiating millennium development goals (MDGs) from SDGs, he said that MDGs are simple and time-bound while SDGs are quantifying. Similarly, explaining the different layers of implementation of the SDGs he added that the public sector needs to lead sectors such as agriculture, health, transportation, education while the private sector needs to lead industry, energy, housing andtourism sectors. Stating that the SDGS are national responsibility, he urged for coordination between different layers of government and coordination among the public and private sectors for the implementation of the SDGs.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, CG Foundation is coming up with 43 new initiatives to meet the SDGs.,said Nirvana Chaudhary, managing director of Chaudhary Group. Similarly, addressing the demands of the private sector to reform and amend policies, joint secretary at the Ministry of Industry (MoI), Pradip Koirala, made commitment to reform the policies that are obstructing the works of the private sector.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;</p>

The central bank had directed the commercial banks to raise their paid-up capital to Rs 8 billion by July 2017. But, only five banks met the criteria set by the central bank within the deadline.</span></p>

<p>As only five banks, namely &nbsp;Global IME Bank, Nepal Bank, Nepal Investment Bank Ltd, Rastriya Banijya Bank, and Agriculture Development Bank Ltd, raised the paid-up capital to Rs 8 billion, the central bank had extended the deadline by six months till December 2017. It has been more than four months since the NRB extended the deadline, but only eight additional banks have raised their paid-up capital as per the criteria set by the central bank. These banks opted to issue bonus shares, right shares as well as merger and acquisition to meet the ceiling set by NRB.</p>

<p>According to the Banks and Financial Institution Act-2016 (BAFIA), the banks should complete the audit work&nbsp;within four months&nbsp;after the completion of the fiscal year. If the banks fail to prepare the audit report, then it has to request the central bank to extend the deadline for two months to raise the paid-up capital. So, the banks and financial institutions (BFIs) should raise the paid-up capital by the end of December at any cost.</p>

<p>According to the monetary policy of NRB, it will stop BFIs from expanding their branches, collecting deposits, issuing rights and bonus shares, among others if they don&rsquo;t comply with the directives of the central bank. Currently, all the commercial banks are preparing to raise the paid-up capital to Rs 8 billion within the time period set by NRB.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Economic prosperity has become the common agenda of all parties. But now, we are heading towards a three-tier system of governance which is expected to increase the expenses of the government. Bureaucracy is being politicized. And if we are to achieve economic prosperity, first and foremost we must give attention to these things,&rdquo; said Mahat.</p>

<p>Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center) leader and former finance minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara mentioned that sustainable development and economic prosperity are the priorities of the nation. He claimed that the manifesto of the left alliance has also been prepared accordingly. <p>Federation of Handicraft Association of Nepal (FHAN) Vice President Prachanda Shakya informed that there has been transaction worth Rs 10 million so far during the fair. The handicraft fair features stalls of leather wears, woolen clothes, felt, herbal products, woodworks, metallic idols, gold, silver and paper products among others.</p>

<p>There are ten pavilions and 180 stalls in the fair. Bangladesh, Bhutan, Pakistan and China are also displaying their products in the fair.</p>

<p>FHAN organised the five day fair in the capital from November 17-21 with an objective to promote handicrafts. &nbsp;</p>

Deputy spoke person of the ministry, Shankar Sapkota, said that the ministry has started taking suggestions, ideas and opinion from the concerned stakeholders for promotion of cardamom.</p>

<p>According to him, the ministry has taken suggestions from the National Planning Commission, Ministry of Co-operatives and Poverty Alleviation, Ministry of Land Reform and Forest to prepare the Cardamom Promotion Policy. Similarly, the ministry has also sought opinion from Finance Ministry and Ministry of Soil Conservation .</p>

<p>According to the ministry, all the ministries have given them feedbacks and suggestions except the Finance Ministry.</p>

<p>&ldquo;We sought suggestions from five different government bodies,&rdquo; Sapkota said , &ldquo;But we still have not obtained any feedback from the Finance Ministry.&rdquo;</p>

<p>Sapkota said that the policy will be finalized and forwarded to the council of ministers once they get the feedback from the Finance Ministry.</p>

<p>The draft prepared by the ministry includes various provisions keeping in view the benefits of the exporters.</p>

<p>Ministry expects that the current problems seen in the cardamom production will be automatically solved after the implementation of this policy.</p>

<p>Cardamom is one of the main cash crops of Nepal. Cardamom is exported to the foreign countries. But, as compared to the past, the export of cardamom has declined.</p>

<p>In the recent years, Nepal has been exporting cardamom worth Rs 3 to 5 billion annually. Data of Nepal Business Promotion Center show that in fiscal year 2015/16, cardamom worth around Rs 4.62 billion was exported. But the export declined to Rs 3.6 billion in FY 2016/17. The ministry informed that cardamom production takes place in 25 districts of the country.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

Similarly, explaining the different layers of implementation of the SDGs he added that the public sector needs to lead sectors such as agriculture, health, transportation, education while the private sector needs to lead industry, energy, housing andtourism sectors. The central bank had directed the commercial banks to raise their paid-up capital to Rs 8 billion by July 2017. But, only five banks met the criteria set by the central bank within the deadline.</span></p>

<p>As only five banks, namely &nbsp;Global IME Bank, Nepal Bank, Nepal Investment Bank Ltd, Rastriya Banijya Bank, and Agriculture Development Bank Ltd, raised the paid-up capital to Rs 8 billion, the central bank had extended the deadline by six months till December 2017. It has been more than four months since the NRB extended the deadline, but only eight additional banks have raised their paid-up capital as per the criteria set by the central bank. These banks opted to issue bonus shares, right shares as well as merger and acquisition to meet the ceiling set by NRB.</p>

<p>According to the Banks and Financial Institution Act-2016 (BAFIA), the banks should complete the audit work&nbsp;within four months&nbsp;after the completion of the fiscal year. If the banks fail to prepare the audit report, then it has to request the central bank to extend the deadline for two months to raise the paid-up capital. So, the banks and financial institutions (BFIs) should raise the paid-up capital by the end of December at any cost.</p>

<p>According to the monetary policy of NRB, it will stop BFIs from expanding their branches, collecting deposits, issuing rights and bonus shares, among others if they don&rsquo;t comply with the directives of the central bank. Currently, all the commercial banks are preparing to raise the paid-up capital to Rs 8 billion within the time period set by NRB.</p>

And if we are to achieve economic prosperity, first and foremost we must give attention to these things,&rdquo; said Mahat.</p>

<p>Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center) leader and former finance minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara mentioned that sustainable development and economic prosperity are the priorities of the nation. He claimed that the manifesto of the left alliance has also been prepared accordingly. Co-Chairman of Federal Socialist Forum, Rajendra shrestha, said that lack of far sightedness of the political leaders has become a hindrance for smooth development.</p>

<p>According to him, the ministry has taken suggestions from the National Planning Commission, Ministry of Co-operatives and Poverty Alleviation, Ministry of Land Reform and Forest to prepare the Cardamom Promotion Policy. Similarly, the ministry has also sought opinion from Finance Ministry and Ministry of Soil Conservation .</p>

<p>According to the ministry, all the ministries have given them feedbacks and suggestions except the Finance Ministry.</p>

<p>&ldquo;We sought suggestions from five different government bodies,&rdquo; Sapkota said , &ldquo;But we still have not obtained any feedback from the Finance Ministry.&rdquo;</p>

<p>Sapkota said that the policy will be finalized and forwarded to the council of ministers once they get the feedback from the Finance Ministry.</p>

<p>The draft prepared by the ministry includes various provisions keeping in view the benefits of the exporters.</p>

<p>Ministry expects that the current problems seen in the cardamom production will be automatically solved after the implementation of this policy.</p>

<p>Cardamom is one of the main cash crops of Nepal. Cardamom is exported to the foreign countries. But, as compared to the past, the export of cardamom has declined.</p>

<p>In the recent years, Nepal has been exporting cardamom worth Rs 3 to 5 billion annually. Data of Nepal Business Promotion Center show that in fiscal year 2015/16, cardamom worth around Rs 4.62 billion was exported. But the export declined to Rs 3.6 billion in FY 2016/17. The ministry informed that cardamom production takes place in 25 districts of the country.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>During the visit, JCB said its customers observed the process of how the machines are built from the delivery of the sheet steel, profiling, laser cutting, welding, paint shop, assembly and finally the finished product. They also inspected the world&#39;s first Backhoe loader which was invented by Joseph Cyril Bamford, the founder of JCB, and JCB-made world&#39;s fastest diesel car, reads a press statement issued by the company.</p>

<p>There were 10 pavilions and 180 stalls in the fair. International participants from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Pakistan and China displayed their products in the fair. Participants from 25 districts of Nepal as well as the representatives of the district handicraft associations entrepreneurs associated with FHAN, and Nepal Government&rsquo;s Poverty Alleviation Fund displayed their products in the fair. The 15<sup>th</sup> Handicraft Trade Fair was organized for five days from November 17 to 21.</p>

<p>Products made from wood, metals, gold and silver, felt, wool, dhaka, pashmina, handmade papers, leather and bamboos along with medicinal herbs and orthodox tea were displayed during the trade fair. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking at a discussion programme on the &lsquo;Role of Private Sector in Sustainable Development in Nepal&rsquo; on Tuesday (November 21) in the capital, Valerie Julliand, resident coordinator of United Nations in Nepal, said that internalizing the SDGS in business will enhance the goodwill of the business enterprise.</p>

<p>&nbsp;&ldquo;Sustainable goals are business with ethics,&rdquo; she mentioned during the programme jointly organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Nepal, Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), Global Compact Nepal, KOICA Alumni Association of Nepal (KAAN) and United Nations Development Project (UNDP).</p>

<p>&ldquo;SDGs is a more holistic approach to development,&rdquo; said Swarnim Wagle, vice chair of the National Planning Commission (NPC). Differentiating millennium development goals (MDGs) from SDGs, he said that MDGs are simple and time-bound while SDGs are quantifying. Similarly, explaining the different layers of implementation of the SDGs he added that the public sector needs to lead sectors such as agriculture, health, transportation, education while the private sector needs to lead industry, energy, housing andtourism sectors. Stating that the SDGS are national responsibility, he urged for coordination between different layers of government and coordination among the public and private sectors for the implementation of the SDGs.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, CG Foundation is coming up with 43 new initiatives to meet the SDGs.,said Nirvana Chaudhary, managing director of Chaudhary Group. The central bank had directed the commercial banks to raise their paid-up capital to Rs 8 billion by July 2017. But, only five banks met the criteria set by the central bank within the deadline.</span></p>

<p>As only five banks, namely &nbsp;Global IME Bank, Nepal Bank, Nepal Investment Bank Ltd, Rastriya Banijya Bank, and Agriculture Development Bank Ltd, raised the paid-up capital to Rs 8 billion, the central bank had extended the deadline by six months till December 2017. It has been more than four months since the NRB extended the deadline, but only eight additional banks have raised their paid-up capital as per the criteria set by the central bank. These banks opted to issue bonus shares, right shares as well as merger and acquisition to meet the ceiling set by NRB.</p>

<p>According to the Banks and Financial Institution Act-2016 (BAFIA), the banks should complete the audit work&nbsp;within four months&nbsp;after the completion of the fiscal year. If the banks fail to prepare the audit report, then it has to request the central bank to extend the deadline for two months to raise the paid-up capital. So, the banks and financial institutions (BFIs) should raise the paid-up capital by the end of December at any cost.</p>

<p>According to the monetary policy of NRB, it will stop BFIs from expanding their branches, collecting deposits, issuing rights and bonus shares, among others if they don&rsquo;t comply with the directives of the central bank. Currently, all the commercial banks are preparing to raise the paid-up capital to Rs 8 billion within the time period set by NRB.</p>

But now, we are heading towards a three-tier system of governance which is expected to increase the expenses of the government. Bureaucracy is being politicized. And if we are to achieve economic prosperity, first and foremost we must give attention to these things,&rdquo; said Mahat.</p>

<p>Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center) leader and former finance minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara mentioned that sustainable development and economic prosperity are the priorities of the nation. He claimed that the manifesto of the left alliance has also been prepared accordingly. Co-Chairman of Federal Socialist Forum, Rajendra shrestha, said that lack of far sightedness of the political leaders has become a hindrance for smooth development.</p>

The Ministry of Agriculture Development informed that the government is preparing the policy due to the decline in the export of cardamom in the recent times. Deputy spoke person of the ministry, Shankar Sapkota, said that the ministry has started taking suggestions, ideas and opinion from the concerned stakeholders for promotion of cardamom.</p>

<p>According to him, the ministry has taken suggestions from the National Planning Commission, Ministry of Co-operatives and Poverty Alleviation, Ministry of Land Reform and Forest to prepare the Cardamom Promotion Policy. Similarly, the ministry has also sought opinion from Finance Ministry and Ministry of Soil Conservation .</p>

<p>According to the ministry, all the ministries have given them feedbacks and suggestions except the Finance Ministry.</p>

<p>&ldquo;We sought suggestions from five different government bodies,&rdquo; Sapkota said , &ldquo;But we still have not obtained any feedback from the Finance Ministry.&rdquo;</p>

<p>Sapkota said that the policy will be finalized and forwarded to the council of ministers once they get the feedback from the Finance Ministry.</p>

<p>The draft prepared by the ministry includes various provisions keeping in view the benefits of the exporters.</p>

<p>Ministry expects that the current problems seen in the cardamom production will be automatically solved after the implementation of this policy.</p>

<p>Cardamom is one of the main cash crops of Nepal. Cardamom is exported to the foreign countries. But, as compared to the past, the export of cardamom has declined.</p>

<p>In the recent years, Nepal has been exporting cardamom worth Rs 3 to 5 billion annually. Data of Nepal Business Promotion Center show that in fiscal year 2015/16, cardamom worth around Rs 4.62 billion was exported. But the export declined to Rs 3.6 billion in FY 2016/17. The ministry informed that cardamom production takes place in 25 districts of the country.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

Dharmaraj Shakya, president of FHAN said, &ldquo;Handicraft has played a vital role in the development of the country&rsquo;s economy by contributing in export business and also in the creation of employment.&rdquo; He added that handicrafts worth Rs 5 billion were exported in the last fiscal year.</p>

<p>There were 10 pavilions and 180 stalls in the fair. International participants from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Pakistan and China displayed their products in the fair. Participants from 25 districts of Nepal as well as the representatives of the district handicraft associations entrepreneurs associated with FHAN, and Nepal Government&rsquo;s Poverty Alleviation Fund displayed their products in the fair. The 15<sup>th</sup> Handicraft Trade Fair was organized for five days from November 17 to 21.</p>

<p>Products made from wood, metals, gold and silver, felt, wool, dhaka, pashmina, handmade papers, leather and bamboos along with medicinal herbs and orthodox tea were displayed during the trade fair. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking at a discussion programme on the &lsquo;Role of Private Sector in Sustainable Development in Nepal&rsquo; on Tuesday (November 21) in the capital, Valerie Julliand, resident coordinator of United Nations in Nepal, said that internalizing the SDGS in business will enhance the goodwill of the business enterprise.</p>

<p>&nbsp;&ldquo;Sustainable goals are business with ethics,&rdquo; she mentioned during the programme jointly organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Nepal, Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), Global Compact Nepal, KOICA Alumni Association of Nepal (KAAN) and United Nations Development Project (UNDP).</p>

<p>&ldquo;SDGs is a more holistic approach to development,&rdquo; said Swarnim Wagle, vice chair of the National Planning Commission (NPC). Differentiating millennium development goals (MDGs) from SDGs, he said that MDGs are simple and time-bound while SDGs are quantifying. Similarly, explaining the different layers of implementation of the SDGs he added that the public sector needs to lead sectors such as agriculture, health, transportation, education while the private sector needs to lead industry, energy, housing andtourism sectors. Stating that the SDGS are national responsibility, he urged for coordination between different layers of government and coordination among the public and private sectors for the implementation of the SDGs.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, CG Foundation is coming up with 43 new initiatives to meet the SDGs.,said Nirvana Chaudhary, managing director of Chaudhary Group. Similarly, addressing the demands of the private sector to reform and amend policies, joint secretary at the Ministry of Industry (MoI), Pradip Koirala, made commitment to reform the policies that are obstructing the works of the private sector.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;</p>

The central bank had directed the commercial banks to raise their paid-up capital to Rs 8 billion by July 2017. But, only five banks met the criteria set by the central bank within the deadline.</span></p>

<p>As only five banks, namely &nbsp;Global IME Bank, Nepal Bank, Nepal Investment Bank Ltd, Rastriya Banijya Bank, and Agriculture Development Bank Ltd, raised the paid-up capital to Rs 8 billion, the central bank had extended the deadline by six months till December 2017. It has been more than four months since the NRB extended the deadline, but only eight additional banks have raised their paid-up capital as per the criteria set by the central bank. These banks opted to issue bonus shares, right shares as well as merger and acquisition to meet the ceiling set by NRB.</p>

<p>According to the Banks and Financial Institution Act-2016 (BAFIA), the banks should complete the audit work&nbsp;within four months&nbsp;after the completion of the fiscal year. If the banks fail to prepare the audit report, then it has to request the central bank to extend the deadline for two months to raise the paid-up capital. So, the banks and financial institutions (BFIs) should raise the paid-up capital by the end of December at any cost.</p>

<p>According to the monetary policy of NRB, it will stop BFIs from expanding their branches, collecting deposits, issuing rights and bonus shares, among others if they don&rsquo;t comply with the directives of the central bank. Currently, all the commercial banks are preparing to raise the paid-up capital to Rs 8 billion within the time period set by NRB.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Economic prosperity has become the common agenda of all parties. But now, we are heading towards a three-tier system of governance which is expected to increase the expenses of the government. Bureaucracy is being politicized. And if we are to achieve economic prosperity, first and foremost we must give attention to these things,&rdquo; said Mahat.</p>

<p>Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center) leader and former finance minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara mentioned that sustainable development and economic prosperity are the priorities of the nation. He claimed that the manifesto of the left alliance has also been prepared accordingly. Co-Chairman of Federal Socialist Forum, Rajendra shrestha, said that lack of far sightedness of the political leaders has become a hindrance for smooth development.</p>
