<p>The importers have questioned the rationale behind increasing the customs duty to promote domestic sugar mills when half of the total sugar demand of the country is fulfilled by the import from Indian market.</p>

<p>According to Anil Kumar Agrawal, vice president at Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the consumers have been forced to purchase sugar at higher rate despite the fall in prices in the international market. Agrawal, who is also an importer, says that the Nepali consumers have not benefitted from the falling sugar price in the international market.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The government&rsquo;s policy is not rational,&rdquo; importers say. The government is levying 30 percent customs duty on sugar. Earlier, the importers had to pay 15 percent customs duty while brining sugar to Nepal.</p>

<p>The statistics compiled by Nepal Sugar Producers Association shows that a total of 130,000 metric tons of sugar was imported to Nepal in the Fiscal Year 2016/2017.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the country imported a massive 200,000 metric tons of sugar in the Fiscal Year 2013/2014, which declined to 184,000 in the following Fiscal Year 2014/2015.</p>

<p>Likewise, sugar import in the Fiscal Year 2015/2016 stood at 147,000 metric tons.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to Hom Bahadur Pun, a representative of Kali Gandaki Camp Rafting, internal tourists from Baglung, Myagdi, Kaski and Syangja have started rafting in the Kali Gandaki River. Before this, Pokhara Rafting Company was the only company which had been operating rafting in the river. Breaking the syndicate, the new company started rafting, Pun explained.</p>

<p>According to Pun, tourists prefer Kali Gandak for rafting due to less flow of water. Two to 10 tourists have been visiting Kali Gandaki for rafting on a daily basis. Rafting is being operated from Lasti to Naya Pul and Maldhunga to Naya Pul.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Internal tourists didn&#39;t show much interest for rafting earlier,&rdquo; said Nabin Thapa, manager of Kali Gandaki Camp Rafting, adding, &ldquo;With the introduction of packages at affordable prices, the flow of internal tourists for rafting is increasing.&rdquo;</p>

He said so in a discussion forum organised by SAWTEE in Kathmandu&nbsp;on Sunday&nbsp;(April 29).</p>

<p>Likewise, Rabi Shankar Sainju, joint-secretary at the Ministry of Commerce, said that Keyrung will be able to connect Nepal to Europe through Chinese Belt and Road Initiative. He also urged the traders to be more open to adapt to new routes citing example of Vishkhapatnam Port, which is offering efficient services in comparison to Kolkata or Haldiya ports.</p>

Global IME Bank further said that IFC&rsquo;s guarantees will help the bank deliver trade finance to its clients in challenging markets where trade lines may be constrained.</p>

<p>Global IME Bank expressed its belief that this kind of initiation with IFC would open opportunities for domestic banks to borrow from international banks setting up a historic milestone in the Nepalese banking arena.</p>

<p>The bank informed that the loan obtained from IFC shall be mobilized in extending credit to the productive sectors of Nepal. In addition, the loan will be mobilized primarily to support MSME/SME and agribusinesses.</p>

<p>According to Global IME Bank, the loan from IFC will come into effect after the approval from the Central Bank of Nepal.</p>

<p>The importers have questioned the rationale behind increasing the customs duty to promote domestic sugar mills when half of the total sugar demand of the country is fulfilled by the import from Indian market.</p>

<p>According to Anil Kumar Agrawal, vice president at Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the consumers have been forced to purchase sugar at higher rate despite the fall in prices in the international market. Agrawal, who is also an importer, says that the Nepali consumers have not benefitted from the falling sugar price in the international market.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The government&rsquo;s policy is not rational,&rdquo; importers say. The government is levying 30 percent customs duty on sugar. Earlier, the importers had to pay 15 percent customs duty while brining sugar to Nepal.</p>

<p>The statistics compiled by Nepal Sugar Producers Association shows that a total of 130,000 metric tons of sugar was imported to Nepal in the Fiscal Year 2016/2017.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the country imported a massive 200,000 metric tons of sugar in the Fiscal Year 2013/2014, which declined to 184,000 in the following Fiscal Year 2014/2015.</p>

<p>Likewise, sugar import in the Fiscal Year 2015/2016 stood at 147,000 metric tons.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

He said so in a discussion forum organised by SAWTEE in Kathmandu&nbsp;on Sunday&nbsp;(April 29).</p>

<p>Likewise, Rabi Shankar Sainju, joint-secretary at the Ministry of Commerce, said that Keyrung will be able to connect Nepal to Europe through Chinese Belt and Road Initiative. He also urged the traders to be more open to adapt to new routes citing example of Vishkhapatnam Port, which is offering efficient services in comparison to Kolkata or Haldiya ports.</p>

<p>Similarly, Bachchu Poudel, president at Nepal Trans Himalaya Border Commerce Association, drew the attention to the increase in cost of the traders doing business with China through Tatopani. &ldquo;Further shutdown of the Tatopani border has also brought the economy in Sindhupalchowk to a standstill,&rdquo; he said.</p>

<p>The discussion forum was organized by SAWTEE under the project &lsquo;Initiating dialogue on Post Disaster Reconstruction Experience&rsquo; undertaken with support from The Asia Foundation (TAF).</p>

<p>Some 25 participants from various organizations, including research institutions, experts, activists and development partners, participated in the event.</p>

<p>SAWTEE has undertaken similar discussion forums related to post-disaster reconstruction under themes such as labour migration, expenditure tracking, urban spaces, conflict resolution, gender implications, macroeconomic impact, among others.</p>

Global IME Bank further said that IFC&rsquo;s guarantees will help the bank deliver trade finance to its clients in challenging markets where trade lines may be constrained.</p>

<p>Global IME Bank expressed its belief that this kind of initiation with IFC would open opportunities for domestic banks to borrow from international banks setting up a historic milestone in the Nepalese banking arena.</p>

<p>The bank informed that the loan obtained from IFC shall be mobilized in extending credit to the productive sectors of Nepal. In addition, the loan will be mobilized primarily to support MSME/SME and agribusinesses.</p>

<p>According to Global IME Bank, the loan from IFC will come into effect after the approval from the Central Bank of Nepal.</p>

<p>The importers have questioned the rationale behind increasing the customs duty to promote domestic sugar mills when half of the total sugar demand of the country is fulfilled by the import from Indian market.</p>

<p>According to Anil Kumar Agrawal, vice president at Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the consumers have been forced to purchase sugar at higher rate despite the fall in prices in the international market. Agrawal, who is also an importer, says that the Nepali consumers have not benefitted from the falling sugar price in the international market.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The government&rsquo;s policy is not rational,&rdquo; importers say. The government is levying 30 percent customs duty on sugar. Earlier, the importers had to pay 15 percent customs duty while brining sugar to Nepal.</p>

<p>The statistics compiled by Nepal Sugar Producers Association shows that a total of 130,000 metric tons of sugar was imported to Nepal in the Fiscal Year 2016/2017.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the country imported a massive 200,000 metric tons of sugar in the Fiscal Year 2013/2014, which declined to 184,000 in the following Fiscal Year 2014/2015.</p>

<p>Likewise, sugar import in the Fiscal Year 2015/2016 stood at 147,000 metric tons.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to Hom Bahadur Pun, a representative of Kali Gandaki Camp Rafting, internal tourists from Baglung, Myagdi, Kaski and Syangja have started rafting in the Kali Gandaki River. Before this, Pokhara Rafting Company was the only company which had been operating rafting in the river. Breaking the syndicate, the new company started rafting, Pun explained.</p>

<p>According to Pun, tourists prefer Kali Gandak for rafting due to less flow of water. Two to 10 tourists have been visiting Kali Gandaki for rafting on a daily basis. Rafting is being operated from Lasti to Naya Pul and Maldhunga to Naya Pul.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Internal tourists didn&#39;t show much interest for rafting earlier,&rdquo; said Nabin Thapa, manager of Kali Gandaki Camp Rafting, adding, &ldquo;With the introduction of packages at affordable prices, the flow of internal tourists for rafting is increasing.&rdquo;</p>

<p>Kharel also said that rerouting of Nepal and China trade taking place through land to sea via India due to the shutdown of Tatopani border after the earthquake coupled with inadequacy of the Rasuwa border to handle China trade is estimated to have incurred time cost equivalent to a tariff of 18 to 62 percent. He said so in a discussion forum organised by SAWTEE in Kathmandu&nbsp;on Sunday&nbsp;(April 29).</p>

<p>Likewise, Rabi Shankar Sainju, joint-secretary at the Ministry of Commerce, said that Keyrung will be able to connect Nepal to Europe through Chinese Belt and Road Initiative. He also urged the traders to be more open to adapt to new routes citing example of Vishkhapatnam Port, which is offering efficient services in comparison to Kolkata or Haldiya ports.</p>

<p>Similarly, Bachchu Poudel, president at Nepal Trans Himalaya Border Commerce Association, drew the attention to the increase in cost of the traders doing business with China through Tatopani. &ldquo;Further shutdown of the Tatopani border has also brought the economy in Sindhupalchowk to a standstill,&rdquo; he said.</p>

<p>The discussion forum was organized by SAWTEE under the project &lsquo;Initiating dialogue on Post Disaster Reconstruction Experience&rsquo; undertaken with support from The Asia Foundation (TAF).</p>

<p>Some 25 participants from various organizations, including research institutions, experts, activists and development partners, participated in the event.</p>

<p>SAWTEE has undertaken similar discussion forums related to post-disaster reconstruction under themes such as labour migration, expenditure tracking, urban spaces, conflict resolution, gender implications, macroeconomic impact, among others.</p>

Global IME Bank further said that IFC&rsquo;s guarantees will help the bank deliver trade finance to its clients in challenging markets where trade lines may be constrained.</p>

<p>Global IME Bank expressed its belief that this kind of initiation with IFC would open opportunities for domestic banks to borrow from international banks setting up a historic milestone in the Nepalese banking arena.</p>

<p>The bank informed that the loan obtained from IFC shall be mobilized in extending credit to the productive sectors of Nepal. In addition, the loan will be mobilized primarily to support MSME/SME and agribusinesses.</p>

<p>According to Global IME Bank, the loan from IFC will come into effect after the approval from the Central Bank of Nepal.</p>

<p>The importers have questioned the rationale behind increasing the customs duty to promote domestic sugar mills when half of the total sugar demand of the country is fulfilled by the import from Indian market.</p>

<p>According to Anil Kumar Agrawal, vice president at Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the consumers have been forced to purchase sugar at higher rate despite the fall in prices in the international market. Agrawal, who is also an importer, says that the Nepali consumers have not benefitted from the falling sugar price in the international market.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The government&rsquo;s policy is not rational,&rdquo; importers say. The government is levying 30 percent customs duty on sugar. Earlier, the importers had to pay 15 percent customs duty while brining sugar to Nepal.</p>

<p>The statistics compiled by Nepal Sugar Producers Association shows that a total of 130,000 metric tons of sugar was imported to Nepal in the Fiscal Year 2016/2017.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the country imported a massive 200,000 metric tons of sugar in the Fiscal Year 2013/2014, which declined to 184,000 in the following Fiscal Year 2014/2015.</p>

<p>Likewise, sugar import in the Fiscal Year 2015/2016 stood at 147,000 metric tons.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

He said so in a discussion forum organised by SAWTEE in Kathmandu&nbsp;on Sunday&nbsp;(April 29).</p>

<p>Likewise, Rabi Shankar Sainju, joint-secretary at the Ministry of Commerce, said that Keyrung will be able to connect Nepal to Europe through Chinese Belt and Road Initiative. He also urged the traders to be more open to adapt to new routes citing example of Vishkhapatnam Port, which is offering efficient services in comparison to Kolkata or Haldiya ports.</p>

<p>Similarly, Bachchu Poudel, president at Nepal Trans Himalaya Border Commerce Association, drew the attention to the increase in cost of the traders doing business with China through Tatopani. &ldquo;Further shutdown of the Tatopani border has also brought the economy in Sindhupalchowk to a standstill,&rdquo; he said.</p>

<p>The discussion forum was organized by SAWTEE under the project &lsquo;Initiating dialogue on Post Disaster Reconstruction Experience&rsquo; undertaken with support from The Asia Foundation (TAF).</p>

<p>Some 25 participants from various organizations, including research institutions, experts, activists and development partners, participated in the event.</p>

<p>SAWTEE has undertaken similar discussion forums related to post-disaster reconstruction under themes such as labour migration, expenditure tracking, urban spaces, conflict resolution, gender implications, macroeconomic impact, among others.</p>

<p>Global IME Bank expressed its belief that this kind of initiation with IFC would open opportunities for domestic banks to borrow from international banks setting up a historic milestone in the Nepalese banking arena.</p>

<p>The bank informed that the loan obtained from IFC shall be mobilized in extending credit to the productive sectors of Nepal. In addition, the loan will be mobilized primarily to support MSME/SME and agribusinesses.</p>

<p>According to Global IME Bank, the loan from IFC will come into effect after the approval from the Central Bank of Nepal.</p>

<p>During the function, CEO Raj Kumar Aryal revealed the company&#39;s strategy to extend insurance service ensuring maximum security to the insurers with nominal insurance amount. The company has been providing five kinds of insurance policies at present and is preparing to add further three more types of insurance policies in the near future, Aryal added.</p>

<p>Speaking at the programme, Sita Ram Kattel stressed the need of disseminating information of insurance and its service. Likewise, Kunjana Ghimire also mentioned that insurance service has become indispensible for future security.</p>
