<p style="text-align: justify;">When he instantly went to inform about the counterfeit note, the officials of the bank refused to exchange it saying the bank did not hand him the counterfeit money.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">This is just an example as there is fast spread of counterfeit bank notes in the Birgunj economic zone. The general public is suffering adversely as even the bank is giving counterfeit notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 to customers.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">One of the victimized trader said, &ldquo;The reliability of bank&rsquo;s payment has diminished as it has started handing over counterfeit notes. The general public is suffering badly as even the banks could not identify and control the fake notes.&rdquo;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">According to Pradip Bhattarai, Deputy Director of the Nepal Rastra Bank, Birgunj, the makers of counterfeit money are bringing fake Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes in the market.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">After counterfeit notes were seen in the market, NRB&rsquo;s Regional Office has directed commercial banks to assess the quality of notes, but it is not followed properly.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The commercial banks are not alert while receiving counterfeit monies and the banks return counterfeit money back to the general public. Bhattarai said, &ldquo;The commercial banks are alerted after such counterfeit notes were received from these banks, and the notes found have been withdrawn which are mostly of Rs. 1,000 denomination.&rdquo;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">One of the managers of the bank informed that due to lack of quality in testing counterfeit notes, the fake money makers are successful in bringing such money in the market.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Moreover, the official who found the note said that note-testing devices have limited features resulting in increase of counterfeit money prevailing in the market.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">&nbsp;Meanwhile, the clean-note policy of NRB is also found to be causing trouble as banks do not stitch bundles of notes, and if fake note is found in the bundle with tag only, the banks do not own it and people are victimized. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The government which has decided to implement exim code has released information to traders requesting them to receive the code from the Department of Customs before this.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The deposit amount was reduced to Rs 300,000 from Rs one million as traders did not show their interest in it as expected.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">According to Ram Sharan Chimoriya, Director General of the Department of Customs (DoC), all the traders need to receive the exim code for import-export of goods from the government under the Customs Act- 2007 from the first month of the FY.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The traders, who were saying that investment can increase due to high deposit amount, have now welcomed it. &ldquo;The deposit amount has been decreased to achieve the aim of smooth running of foreign trade, to make it legal and to address the demands of entrepreneurs,&rdquo; the Department said.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The department assumes that exim code will be helpful to reduce the expenditure of load/unload in customs point and to facilitate the coordination with government bodies.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Similarly, the deposit amount was reduced by the department with an aim to provide exim code in an easy way to all types of export-imports trade.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">According to Jaya Siwakoti, President of the Customs Agent Federation of Nepal (CAFN), and executive member of FNCCI, &nbsp;the provision of exim code is welcome but the process to receive exim code needs to be further simplified.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">&nbsp;Similarly, operating profit of the bank has increased by 41 percent by the third quarter of the current FY. During the period, paid-up capital of the bank increased by 20 percent to Rs 8.74 billion and its reserve fund amounted to Rs 9.95 billion. By the third quarter, investment of the bank has increased by 17 percent to Rs 25.36 billion. The bank earned Rs 11.66 billion through foreign currency exchange.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">&nbsp;According to the financial report of the third quarter, the bank earned interest income and operating profit of Rs 3.47 billion and 3.45 billion respectively.&nbsp; The bank has earning per share (EPS) of Rs 36.24, P/E ratio of 21.24 and net worth per share of Rs 213.86.&nbsp;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">According to a research recently conducted by South Asia Watch on Trade, Economics and Environment (SAWTEE), the unofficial trade between Nepal and India is equivalent to a large portion of the official trade between them. The research shows that the import of agricultural products is very high in such official trade.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">&nbsp;This was revealed in the report released at a programme on May 2, which said that 35-40 percent of the total unofficial trade is covered by import of agricultural products alone.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">According to Dr. Posh Raj Pandey, President of SAWTEE, various types of agricultural products are being imported such as seeds, chemical fertilizers, equipments in Nepal in an unofficial manner.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Pandey said, &ldquo;After the government restricted import of many agricultural products, such products are being imported unofficially. Agricultural seeds are being imported in large amount from India in this way.&rdquo;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The report shows that out of the total import of seeds, around 20 percent is imported through unofficial channel. Similarly, the speakers of the program said that every year, agricultural equipments worth Rs 10 million are being imported unofficially in the country.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Yogendra Kumar Karki, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Agriculture Development informed that due to the high cost in import of goods through official medium and problems of quarantine test, unofficial trade is rising.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">&ldquo;Due to lack of storage, agricultural products are going out of the country after the production and these very products are being imported later from other countries&rdquo;, he added. He admitted that due to lack of government grant in Nepal unlike in other countries, the agricultural products are being imported from India in low prices.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Rabi Shanker Sainju, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce said that despite strong government policies related to agriculture sector, the unofficial trade is taking place as the implementing agencies are not strong. Sainju says, &ldquo;Unofficial import is increasing also due to weak distribution channel as well as unavailability of quality and competitive products in Nepal.&rdquo;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">According to expert Purushottam Ojha, the main reason behind increasing unofficial trade is open border between Nepal and India. &ldquo;If the government provides grants in agricultural products, unofficial trade in the border will be automatically minimized&rdquo;, he added.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">When he instantly went to inform about the counterfeit note, the officials of the bank refused to exchange it saying the bank did not hand him the counterfeit money.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">This is just an example as there is fast spread of counterfeit bank notes in the Birgunj economic zone. The general public is suffering adversely as even the bank is giving counterfeit notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 to customers.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">One of the victimized trader said, &ldquo;The reliability of bank&rsquo;s payment has diminished as it has started handing over counterfeit notes. The general public is suffering badly as even the banks could not identify and control the fake notes.&rdquo;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">According to Pradip Bhattarai, Deputy Director of the Nepal Rastra Bank, Birgunj, the makers of counterfeit money are bringing fake Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes in the market.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">After counterfeit notes were seen in the market, NRB&rsquo;s Regional Office has directed commercial banks to assess the quality of notes, but it is not followed properly.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The commercial banks are not alert while receiving counterfeit monies and the banks return counterfeit money back to the general public. Bhattarai said, &ldquo;The commercial banks are alerted after such counterfeit notes were received from these banks, and the notes found have been withdrawn which are mostly of Rs. 1,000 denomination.&rdquo;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">One of the managers of the bank informed that due to lack of quality in testing counterfeit notes, the fake money makers are successful in bringing such money in the market.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Moreover, the official who found the note said that note-testing devices have limited features resulting in increase of counterfeit money prevailing in the market.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">&nbsp;Meanwhile, the clean-note policy of NRB is also found to be causing trouble as banks do not stitch bundles of notes, and if fake note is found in the bundle with tag only, the banks do not own it and people are victimized. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The government which has decided to implement exim code has released information to traders requesting them to receive the code from the Department of Customs before this.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The deposit amount was reduced to Rs 300,000 from Rs one million as traders did not show their interest in it as expected.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">According to Ram Sharan Chimoriya, Director General of the Department of Customs (DoC), all the traders need to receive the exim code for import-export of goods from the government under the Customs Act- 2007 from the first month of the FY.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The traders, who were saying that investment can increase due to high deposit amount, have now welcomed it. &ldquo;The deposit amount has been decreased to achieve the aim of smooth running of foreign trade, to make it legal and to address the demands of entrepreneurs,&rdquo; the Department said.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The department assumes that exim code will be helpful to reduce the expenditure of load/unload in customs point and to facilitate the coordination with government bodies.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Similarly, the deposit amount was reduced by the department with an aim to provide exim code in an easy way to all types of export-imports trade.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">According to Jaya Siwakoti, President of the Customs Agent Federation of Nepal (CAFN), and executive member of FNCCI, &nbsp;the provision of exim code is welcome but the process to receive exim code needs to be further simplified.</p>

By the third quarter, investment of the bank has increased by 17 percent to Rs 25.36 billion. The bank earned Rs 11.66 billion through foreign currency exchange.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">&nbsp;According to the financial report of the third quarter, the bank earned interest income and operating profit of Rs 3.47 billion and 3.45 billion respectively.&nbsp; The bank has earning per share (EPS) of Rs 36.24, P/E ratio of 21.24 and net worth per share of Rs 213.86.&nbsp;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">According to a research recently conducted by South Asia Watch on Trade, Economics and Environment (SAWTEE), the unofficial trade between Nepal and India is equivalent to a large portion of the official trade between them. The research shows that the import of agricultural products is very high in such official trade.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">&nbsp;This was revealed in the report released at a programme on May 2, which said that 35-40 percent of the total unofficial trade is covered by import of agricultural products alone.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">According to Dr. Posh Raj Pandey, President of SAWTEE, various types of agricultural products are being imported such as seeds, chemical fertilizers, equipments in Nepal in an unofficial manner.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Pandey said, &ldquo;After the government restricted import of many agricultural products, such products are being imported unofficially. Agricultural seeds are being imported in large amount from India in this way.&rdquo;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The report shows that out of the total import of seeds, around 20 percent is imported through unofficial channel. Similarly, the speakers of the program said that every year, agricultural equipments worth Rs 10 million are being imported unofficially in the country.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Yogendra Kumar Karki, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Agriculture Development informed that due to the high cost in import of goods through official medium and problems of quarantine test, unofficial trade is rising.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">&ldquo;Due to lack of storage, agricultural products are going out of the country after the production and these very products are being imported later from other countries&rdquo;, he added. He admitted that due to lack of government grant in Nepal unlike in other countries, the agricultural products are being imported from India in low prices.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Rabi Shanker Sainju, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce said that despite strong government policies related to agriculture sector, the unofficial trade is taking place as the implementing agencies are not strong. Sainju says, &ldquo;Unofficial import is increasing also due to weak distribution channel as well as unavailability of quality and competitive products in Nepal.&rdquo;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">According to expert Purushottam Ojha, the main reason behind increasing unofficial trade is open border between Nepal and India. &ldquo;If the government provides grants in agricultural products, unofficial trade in the border will be automatically minimized&rdquo;, he added.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">When he instantly went to inform about the counterfeit note, the officials of the bank refused to exchange it saying the bank did not hand him the counterfeit money.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">This is just an example as there is fast spread of counterfeit bank notes in the Birgunj economic zone. The general public is suffering adversely as even the bank is giving counterfeit notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 to customers.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">One of the victimized trader said, &ldquo;The reliability of bank&rsquo;s payment has diminished as it has started handing over counterfeit notes. The general public is suffering badly as even the banks could not identify and control the fake notes.&rdquo;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">According to Pradip Bhattarai, Deputy Director of the Nepal Rastra Bank, Birgunj, the makers of counterfeit money are bringing fake Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes in the market.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">After counterfeit notes were seen in the market, NRB&rsquo;s Regional Office has directed commercial banks to assess the quality of notes, but it is not followed properly.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The commercial banks are not alert while receiving counterfeit monies and the banks return counterfeit money back to the general public. Bhattarai said, &ldquo;The commercial banks are alerted after such counterfeit notes were received from these banks, and the notes found have been withdrawn which are mostly of Rs. 1,000 denomination.&rdquo;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">One of the managers of the bank informed that due to lack of quality in testing counterfeit notes, the fake money makers are successful in bringing such money in the market.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Moreover, the official who found the note said that note-testing devices have limited features resulting in increase of counterfeit money prevailing in the market.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">&nbsp;Meanwhile, the clean-note policy of NRB is also found to be causing trouble as banks do not stitch bundles of notes, and if fake note is found in the bundle with tag only, the banks do not own it and people are victimized. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The deposit amount was reduced to Rs 300,000 from Rs one million as traders did not show their interest in it as expected.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">According to Ram Sharan Chimoriya, Director General of the Department of Customs (DoC), all the traders need to receive the exim code for import-export of goods from the government under the Customs Act- 2007 from the first month of the FY.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The traders, who were saying that investment can increase due to high deposit amount, have now welcomed it. &ldquo;The deposit amount has been decreased to achieve the aim of smooth running of foreign trade, to make it legal and to address the demands of entrepreneurs,&rdquo; the Department said.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The department assumes that exim code will be helpful to reduce the expenditure of load/unload in customs point and to facilitate the coordination with government bodies.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Similarly, the deposit amount was reduced by the department with an aim to provide exim code in an easy way to all types of export-imports trade.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">According to Jaya Siwakoti, President of the Customs Agent Federation of Nepal (CAFN), and executive member of FNCCI, &nbsp;the provision of exim code is welcome but the process to receive exim code needs to be further simplified.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">According to a research recently conducted by South Asia Watch on Trade, Economics and Environment (SAWTEE), the unofficial trade between Nepal and India is equivalent to a large portion of the official trade between them. The research shows that the import of agricultural products is very high in such official trade.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">&nbsp;This was revealed in the report released at a programme on May 2, which said that 35-40 percent of the total unofficial trade is covered by import of agricultural products alone.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">According to Dr. Posh Raj Pandey, President of SAWTEE, various types of agricultural products are being imported such as seeds, chemical fertilizers, equipments in Nepal in an unofficial manner.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Pandey said, &ldquo;After the government restricted import of many agricultural products, such products are being imported unofficially. Agricultural seeds are being imported in large amount from India in this way.&rdquo;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The report shows that out of the total import of seeds, around 20 percent is imported through unofficial channel. Similarly, the speakers of the program said that every year, agricultural equipments worth Rs 10 million are being imported unofficially in the country.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Yogendra Kumar Karki, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Agriculture Development informed that due to the high cost in import of goods through official medium and problems of quarantine test, unofficial trade is rising.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">&ldquo;Due to lack of storage, agricultural products are going out of the country after the production and these very products are being imported later from other countries&rdquo;, he added. He admitted that due to lack of government grant in Nepal unlike in other countries, the agricultural products are being imported from India in low prices.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Rabi Shanker Sainju, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce said that despite strong government policies related to agriculture sector, the unofficial trade is taking place as the implementing agencies are not strong. Sainju says, &ldquo;Unofficial import is increasing also due to weak distribution channel as well as unavailability of quality and competitive products in Nepal.&rdquo;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">According to expert Purushottam Ojha, the main reason behind increasing unofficial trade is open border between Nepal and India. &ldquo;If the government provides grants in agricultural products, unofficial trade in the border will be automatically minimized&rdquo;, he added.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">When he instantly went to inform about the counterfeit note, the officials of the bank refused to exchange it saying the bank did not hand him the counterfeit money.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">This is just an example as there is fast spread of counterfeit bank notes in the Birgunj economic zone. The general public is suffering adversely as even the bank is giving counterfeit notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 to customers.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">One of the victimized trader said, &ldquo;The reliability of bank&rsquo;s payment has diminished as it has started handing over counterfeit notes. The general public is suffering badly as even the banks could not identify and control the fake notes.&rdquo;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">According to Pradip Bhattarai, Deputy Director of the Nepal Rastra Bank, Birgunj, the makers of counterfeit money are bringing fake Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes in the market.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">After counterfeit notes were seen in the market, NRB&rsquo;s Regional Office has directed commercial banks to assess the quality of notes, but it is not followed properly.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The commercial banks are not alert while receiving counterfeit monies and the banks return counterfeit money back to the general public. Bhattarai said, &ldquo;The commercial banks are alerted after such counterfeit notes were received from these banks, and the notes found have been withdrawn which are mostly of Rs. 1,000 denomination.&rdquo;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">One of the managers of the bank informed that due to lack of quality in testing counterfeit notes, the fake money makers are successful in bringing such money in the market.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Moreover, the official who found the note said that note-testing devices have limited features resulting in increase of counterfeit money prevailing in the market.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The traders, who were saying that investment can increase due to high deposit amount, have now welcomed it. &ldquo;The deposit amount has been decreased to achieve the aim of smooth running of foreign trade, to make it legal and to address the demands of entrepreneurs,&rdquo; the Department said.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The department assumes that exim code will be helpful to reduce the expenditure of load/unload in customs point and to facilitate the coordination with government bodies.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Similarly, the deposit amount was reduced by the department with an aim to provide exim code in an easy way to all types of export-imports trade.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">According to Jaya Siwakoti, President of the Customs Agent Federation of Nepal (CAFN), and executive member of FNCCI, &nbsp;the provision of exim code is welcome but the process to receive exim code needs to be further simplified.</p>

By the third quarter, investment of the bank has increased by 17 percent to Rs 25.36 billion. The bank earned Rs 11.66 billion through foreign currency exchange.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">&nbsp;According to the financial report of the third quarter, the bank earned interest income and operating profit of Rs 3.47 billion and 3.45 billion respectively.&nbsp; The bank has earning per share (EPS) of Rs 36.24, P/E ratio of 21.24 and net worth per share of Rs 213.86.&nbsp;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">According to a research recently conducted by South Asia Watch on Trade, Economics and Environment (SAWTEE), the unofficial trade between Nepal and India is equivalent to a large portion of the official trade between them. The research shows that the import of agricultural products is very high in such official trade.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">&nbsp;This was revealed in the report released at a programme on May 2, which said that 35-40 percent of the total unofficial trade is covered by import of agricultural products alone.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">According to Dr. Posh Raj Pandey, President of SAWTEE, various types of agricultural products are being imported such as seeds, chemical fertilizers, equipments in Nepal in an unofficial manner.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Pandey said, &ldquo;After the government restricted import of many agricultural products, such products are being imported unofficially. Agricultural seeds are being imported in large amount from India in this way.&rdquo;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The report shows that out of the total import of seeds, around 20 percent is imported through unofficial channel. Similarly, the speakers of the program said that every year, agricultural equipments worth Rs 10 million are being imported unofficially in the country.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Yogendra Kumar Karki, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Agriculture Development informed that due to the high cost in import of goods through official medium and problems of quarantine test, unofficial trade is rising.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">&ldquo;Due to lack of storage, agricultural products are going out of the country after the production and these very products are being imported later from other countries&rdquo;, he added. He admitted that due to lack of government grant in Nepal unlike in other countries, the agricultural products are being imported from India in low prices.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Rabi Shanker Sainju, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce said that despite strong government policies related to agriculture sector, the unofficial trade is taking place as the implementing agencies are not strong. Sainju says, &ldquo;Unofficial import is increasing also due to weak distribution channel as well as unavailability of quality and competitive products in Nepal.&rdquo;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">According to expert Purushottam Ojha, the main reason behind increasing unofficial trade is open border between Nepal and India. &ldquo;If the government provides grants in agricultural products, unofficial trade in the border will be automatically minimized&rdquo;, he added.</p>
