However, this year our position in the overall ranking has dropped to 124th although the score is similar to that of the last year as two countries which were below Nepal’s position last year improved their ranking,” Rastriya Samachar Samiti quoted TIN president Khem Raj Regmi as saying.</p> <p> According to Regmi, the political sphere and bureaucracy are the most corrupt sectors in Nepal.</p> <p> “Although there is a two-thirds majority government after the elections, the level of corruption has not decreased. There is no improvement in the corruption perception index as compared to the previous year, which makes Nepal’s position worrisome in terms of good governance,” he added.</p> <p> As per the TI’s global report, Denmark and New Zealand top the Index with 88 and 87 points, respectively, RSS reported. Somalia, South Sudan, and Syria are at the bottom of the index, with 10, 13 and 13 points, respectively, out of 100.</p> <p> More than two-thirds of countries have scored below 50, with an average score of only 43. Since 2012, only 20 countries have significantly improved their scores, including Argentina and Cote D’Ivoire, and 16 have significantly declined, including, Australia, Chile and Malta, the TI said in a press statement.</p> <p> The highest scoring region is Western Europe and the European Union, with an average score of 66, while the lowest scoring regions are Sub-Saharan Africa (average score 32) and Eastern Europe and Central Asia (average score 35).</p> <p> Under the sub-heading entitled ‘Corruption and Crisis of Democracy’, Transparency International press release states that cross analysis with global democracy data revealed a link between corruption and the health of democracies. The country relies on half of the total petroleum products imported from this customs point.</p> <p> Manish Kumar Mahato, communication officer at the customs point, confirmed that there was an increase of import by 77 percent during the review period.</p> <p> According to the data maintained by the customs office, the country imported 384,000 kiloliters of diesel, the highest among all petroleum products, during the review period. The cost of the total diesel import was Rs 28.12 billion, according to the customs office.</p> <p> The government has classified vehicles as luxurious goods and imposed a very high tax on vehicles. Yet, this has had little impact on import of vehicles. The tax collected from the import of four-wheelers including jeeps, cars and vans has alone increased by 100 percent at the Birgunj Customs Point.</p> <p> In the first six months of FY 2017/18, altogether 5957 vehicles worth Rs 4.99 billion were imported from Birgunj Customs Point. This figure is an increase of 77 percent as compared to the data of the corresponding period of last FY.</p> <p> Although the government has pledged to improve supply of electricity in order to reduce the import of petroleum products, the records maintained at the main customs point show the opposite result.</p> <p> The country spent the maximum amount for purchasing petroleum products. The country relies on half of the total petroleum products imported from this customs point.</p> <p> Manish Kumar Mahato, communication officer at the customs point, confirmed that there was an increase of import by 77 percent during the review period.</p> <p> According to the data maintained by the customs office, the country imported 384,000 kiloliters of diesel, the highest among all petroleum products, during the review period. The cost of the total diesel import was Rs 28.12 billion, according to the customs office.</p> <p> The government has classified vehicles as luxurious goods and imposed a very high tax on vehicles. Yet, this has had little impact on import of vehicles. The tax collected from the import of four-wheelers including jeeps, cars and vans has alone increased by 100 percent at the Birgunj Customs Point.</p> <p> In the first six months of FY 2017/18, altogether 5957 vehicles worth Rs 4.99 billion were imported from Birgunj Customs Point. However, this year our position in the overall ranking has dropped to 124th although the score is similar to that of the last year as two countries which were below Nepal’s position last year improved their ranking,” Rastriya Samachar Samiti quoted TIN president Khem Raj Regmi as saying.</p> <p> According to Regmi, the political sphere and bureaucracy are the most corrupt sectors in Nepal.</p> <p> “Although there is a two-thirds majority government after the elections, the level of corruption has not decreased. However, this year our position in the overall ranking has dropped to 124th although the score is similar to that of the last year as two countries which were below Nepal’s position last year improved their ranking,” Rastriya Samachar Samiti quoted TIN president Khem Raj Regmi as saying.</p> <p> According to Regmi, the political sphere and bureaucracy are the most corrupt sectors in Nepal.</p> <p> “Although there is a two-thirds majority government after the elections, the level of corruption has not decreased. There is no improvement in the corruption perception index as compared to the previous year, which makes Nepal’s position worrisome in terms of good governance,” he added.</p> <p> As per the TI’s global report, Denmark and New Zealand top the Index with 88 and 87 points, respectively, RSS reported. Somalia, South Sudan, and Syria are at the bottom of the index, with 10, 13 and 13 points, respectively, out of 100.</p> <p> More than two-thirds of countries have scored below 50, with an average score of only 43. Since 2012, only 20 countries have significantly improved their scores, including Argentina and Cote D’Ivoire, and 16 have significantly declined, including, Australia, Chile and Malta, the TI said in a press statement.</p> <p> The highest scoring region is Western Europe and the European Union, with an average score of 66, while the lowest scoring regions are Sub-Saharan Africa (average score 32) and Eastern Europe and Central Asia (average score 35).</p> <p> Under the sub-heading entitled ‘Corruption and Crisis of Democracy’, Transparency International press release states that cross analysis with global democracy data revealed a link between corruption and the health of democracies. The country relies on half of the total petroleum products imported from this customs point.</p> <p> Manish Kumar Mahato, communication officer at the customs point, confirmed that there was an increase of import by 77 percent during the review period.</p> <p> According to the data maintained by the customs office, the country imported 384,000 kiloliters of diesel, the highest among all petroleum products, during the review period. The cost of the total diesel import was Rs 28.12 billion, according to the customs office.</p> <p> The government has classified vehicles as luxurious goods and imposed a very high tax on vehicles. Yet, this has had little impact on import of vehicles. The tax collected from the import of four-wheelers including jeeps, cars and vans has alone increased by 100 percent at the Birgunj Customs Point.</p> <p> In the first six months of FY 2017/18, altogether 5957 vehicles worth Rs 4.99 billion were imported from Birgunj Customs Point. The association said that most of the rose stems to be sold on the Valentine’s Day are being imported from India.</p> <p> Nepal imported rose worth Rs 12.5 million last year.</p> <p> President of FAN Kumar Kasajoo Shrestha said rose is going to cost a little more this year as its price has gone up in the international market.</p> <p> Roses worth Rs 200 million is traded in the country annually. Shrestha said that domestic production meets 20 percent of the market demand and the rest are imported. Of the total roses imported, more than 60 percent are consumed in the Kathmandu Valley.</p> <p> According to RSS, the price of rose was in the range of Rs 40 to 80 per unit last year. It is expected to reach Rs 50 to 100 this year, a rise of 15 percent.</p> <p> Although a western culture, celebration of the Valentine’s Day has become a fad in the country in recent years. The Valentine’s Day falls on February 14 but generally the youths start celebrating it one week ahead.</p> <p> RSS reported that the floriculture business which started from 2007 BS in Nepal has been flourishing with the growing urbanization.</p> <p> “Floriculture business and nurseries have been growing with the growing demand for flowers.
