According to the contact office of the regional Agriculture Knowledge Center, there has been an increase in production of oranges in the district due to the increase in area of production, the rise in the number of orange trees, favourable environment, proper management of the orchards among others. Data maintained by the center confirmed that the district produced oranges worth Rs 340 million this year.</p> <p> The center informed New Business Age that the district produced 7,500 metric tons of oranges. Last year, the district produced oranges worth Rs 330 million.</p> <p> According to the center, 25 percent of the oranges produced in Salyan is consumed within the district while the remaining 75 is exported to the nearby areas including Surkhet, Jajarkot, Nepalgunj, Dhangadi, Mahendranangar among others.</p> <p> Farmers of Kotmaula, Kotbara, Damachaur, Lekhpokhara, Pipleneta, Chande, Kajeri, Selwaltakura are involved in commercial farming of orange. The fortunes of the villagers have changed for good after the success of banana farming in 18 hectares of land within a short span.</p> <p> Within one and a half years since starting commercial farming of banana, the villagers have been able to earn hundreds of thousands of rupees. Banana farming has replaced traditional farming of crops like rice, wheat, maize, millet. The farmers of this village earned Rs 5 million in a year by selling bananas.</p> <p> They say that it has become a good source of income. According to the farmers, banana farming does not require the hard labour needed in farming of other food crops.</p> <p> Khabara farmers used to grow traditional crops until a few years ago. But now, the entire landscape has turned into banana fields. Narayan Sapkota, a local farmer, said that people are attracted towards commercial banana farming because of the appropriate environment in the village, easy access to market and instant money.</p> <p> “All of the farmers are engaged in banana farming in almost 18 hectare of land in the village,” Sapkota said, adding, “The main source of income for Khabara has now become banana farming.”</p> <p> According to him, farmers started engaging in banana farming since three years ago. Khabara has 150 households and the locals have planted banana trees all over their fields. </p> <p> The lifestyle of Tara Kunwar of Khabara has changed after she got engaged in banana farming. He is scheduled to attend a conference to be organised by Nepal’s embassy in London on February 22 to seek support for the investment summit.</p> <p> During his visit, Minister Khatiwada will meet non-residential Nepalis in the UK. He will also attend programmes organised by the Nepal-Britain Chamber of Commerce.</p> <p> The February 22 conference to be organised by the Nepali embassy in London will be attended by the Department for International Development (DFID) of UK, Kathmandu-based fund management company One to Watch as well as the Department for International Trade of the UK.</p> <p> The ministry expects that the visit will help in wooing potential investors of Britain during the Nepal Investment Summit. According to the farmers, banana farming does not require the hard labour needed in farming of other food crops.</p> <p> Khabara farmers used to grow traditional crops until a few years ago. But now, the entire landscape has turned into banana fields. Narayan Sapkota, a local farmer, said that people are attracted towards commercial banana farming because of the appropriate environment in the village, easy access to market and instant money.</p> <p> “All of the farmers are engaged in banana farming in almost 18 hectare of land in the village,” Sapkota said, adding, “The main source of income for Khabara has now become banana farming.”</p> <p> According to him, farmers started engaging in banana farming since three years ago. Khabara has 150 households and the locals have planted banana trees all over their fields. </p> <p> The lifestyle of Tara Kunwar of Khabara has changed after she got engaged in banana farming. Data maintained by the center confirmed that the district produced oranges worth Rs 340 million this year.</p> <p> The center informed New Business Age that the district produced 7,500 metric tons of oranges. Last year, the district produced oranges worth Rs 330 million.</p> <p> According to the center, 25 percent of the oranges produced in Salyan is consumed within the district while the remaining 75 is exported to the nearby areas including Surkhet, Jajarkot, Nepalgunj, Dhangadi, Mahendranangar among others.</p> <p> Farmers of Kotmaula, Kotbara, Damachaur, Lekhpokhara, Pipleneta, Chande, Kajeri, Selwaltakura are involved in commercial farming of orange. According to the farmers, banana farming does not require the hard labour needed in farming of other food crops.</p> <p> Khabara farmers used to grow traditional crops until a few years ago. But now, the entire landscape has turned into banana fields. Data maintained by the center confirmed that the district produced oranges worth Rs 340 million this year.</p> <p> The center informed New Business Age that the district produced 7,500 metric tons of oranges. Last year, the district produced oranges worth Rs 330 million.</p> <p> According to the center, 25 percent of the oranges produced in Salyan is consumed within the district while the remaining 75 is exported to the nearby areas including Surkhet, Jajarkot, Nepalgunj, Dhangadi, Mahendranangar among others.</p> <p> Farmers of Kotmaula, Kotbara, Damachaur, Lekhpokhara, Pipleneta, Chande, Kajeri, Selwaltakura are involved in commercial farming of orange. The farmers of this village earned Rs 5 million in a year by selling bananas.</p> <p> They say that it has become a good source of income. According to the farmers, banana farming does not require the hard labour needed in farming of other food crops.</p> <p> Khabara farmers used to grow traditional crops until a few years ago. But now, the entire landscape has turned into banana fields. Narayan Sapkota, a local farmer, said that people are attracted towards commercial banana farming because of the appropriate environment in the village, easy access to market and instant money.</p> <p> “All of the farmers are engaged in banana farming in almost 18 hectare of land in the village,” Sapkota said, adding, “The main source of income for Khabara has now become banana farming.”</p> <p> According to him, farmers started engaging in banana farming since three years ago. Khabara has 150 households and the locals have planted banana trees all over their fields. </p> <p> The lifestyle of Tara Kunwar of Khabara has changed after she got engaged in banana farming.
