"A MoU has also been signed between NEA and AEPC to add 10 more projects with capacity of more than 100KW to national transmission line," Dhakal added, saying, "The step of NEA connecting the national transmission line to the area will increase the utilization of micro hydropower projects."</p> <p style="text-align:justify">Such projects which were operated for rural electrification were consecutively closed due to the access of central transmission power. AEPC which is under the Ministry of Population and Environment has vowed to help Energy Ministry to end power cut.</p> <p style="text-align:justify"><strong>Grid Connected Solar </strong></p> <p style="text-align:justify">The demand of solar technology for domestic use has gone down due to end of power cuts in Kathmandu Valley and minimisation of power cuts all over the country. However, the solar technology for street lights has increased compared to earlier. "The concept of grid connected solar is being put forward with a target to fulfill the growing demand of electricity," Dhakal said. "Its initial use will be done by installing solar panel on the terrace of offices inside Singhadurbar and the produced electricity will be connected to grid and distributed in the related offices." Though the plan was formulated two years ago, it has not been implemented till date.</p> <p style="text-align:justify">The 18KW solar mini grid which was installed in Tanahun, Baidi VDC-2, Dubung one year ago is still in operation. However, in the recent time, ISPs are focused on providing cable internet services compared to wireless.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">According to statistics of Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) published in August/September, the share of wireless internet has reduced to around 30 percent of the overall services. The statistics which comprised of the customers of 26 different service providers shows that the ISPs have expanded their services to 132,825 customers. Among them, 109,739 customers are using cable internet, 4,474 are using dial-up and remaining 48,612 are wireless modem users. Two years ago, customers using wireless internet were more than 64,000. As per the NTA data, cable modem is replacing the wireless modem for internet services. Suman Lal Pradhan, President of Internet Service Provider of Nepal (ISPN) accepts the weaknesses of ISPs regarding the declining use of wireless technology.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Meanwhile, telecom services providers have been successful to capture a large portion of the internet services due to wireless technology. Wireless technology is based on frequency. ISPs have been providing wireless services through non-commercial frequencies. They have been providing internet services through normal frequencies that are being used in homes and offices due to the lack of the commercial frequency. </p> <p style="text-align: justify;">With the expansion of internet services, users are attracted towards high speed internet in the recent years. NTA has not distributed commercial frequency to the ISPs though it has been already decided to distribute frequency. “NTA has prepared a modality for the distribution,” says Min Prasad Aryal, Spokesperson of NTA. Refarming the 15Mhz frequency among the 1800 band, NT started the LTE service by separating 10Mhz for GSM and remaining 5Mhz for 4G service. According to the company, internet speed of up to 32.4 Mb per second will be available from the 5Mhz frequency.</p> <p>“NTA is working on to manage frequency of existing 1800 band for maximum utilization on 4G service,” said Digambar Jha, Chairman of NTA. As per the agreement, the additional power will cost Nepal Rs 5.60 per unit which the country has been paying to India currently. Last year, Nepal imported 347MW electricity from India. NEA has planned to import additional 220MW through four cross-border transmission lines. Under this, 40MW will be imported from Tanakpur-Mahedranagar transmission line, while the lines of Kataiya-Kusaha and Rakshaul-Parwanipur will supply 50MW each. The construction works of the transmission lines are being rapidly done for the purpose.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">According to Adhikari, the increase in import of power is in a bid to ease the difficulties the country faces from load dispatch reduction. Among them, 109,739 customers are using cable internet, 4,474 are using dial-up and remaining 48,612 are wireless modem users. Two years ago, customers using wireless internet were more than 64,000. As per the NTA data, cable modem is replacing the wireless modem for internet services. Suman Lal Pradhan, President of Internet Service Provider of Nepal (ISPN) accepts the weaknesses of ISPs regarding the declining use of wireless technology.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Meanwhile, telecom services providers have been successful to capture a large portion of the internet services due to wireless technology. Wireless technology is based on frequency. ISPs have been providing wireless services through non-commercial frequencies. Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) permitted NT to operate 4G service three months ago.</p> <p>Telecom received permission to run Technology Neutrality and 4G on 1800 band from NTA. Refarming the 15Mhz frequency among the 1800 band, NT started the LTE service by separating 10Mhz for GSM and remaining 5Mhz for 4G service. According to the company, internet speed of up to 32.4 Mb per second will be available from the 5Mhz frequency.</p> <p>“NTA is working on to manage frequency of existing 1800 band for maximum utilization on 4G service,” said Digambar Jha, Chairman of NTA. Speaking on the launch program, Surendra Kumar Karki, Minister for Information and Communication said that the 4G service will bring revolution in the field of information and technology.</p> <p>On the process of service, the company upgraded the status of popular sector sites and network. The upgradation of 380 and 25 BTS tower in Kathmandu and Pokhara respectively have been completed. NT is planning to add 59 towers immediately. For that, Chinese mobile company Huawei is assisting NT on infrastructure aspect. During the dry season, power production in the country reduces due to the lower level of flow of water in the rivers. "Another agreement for importing additional 40MW electricity from February1 has been reached to fulfill the demand which will rise with the dry season," he added, saying, "A 100 MVA transformer has been installed at the Muzaffarpur substation for additional import." As per the agreement, the additional power will cost Nepal Rs 5.60 per unit which the country has been paying to India currently. Last year, Nepal imported 347MW electricity from India. NEA has planned to import additional 220MW through four cross-border transmission lines. Under this, 40MW will be imported from Tanakpur-Mahedranagar transmission line, while the lines of Kataiya-Kusaha and Rakshaul-Parwanipur will supply 50MW each. The construction works of the transmission lines are being rapidly done for the purpose.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">According to Adhikari, the increase in import of power is in a bid to ease the difficulties the country faces from load dispatch reduction. According to NEA, Kathmandu Valley and its nearby districts are free from power cut. Similarly, power cut has been reduced significantly all over the country.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">However, due to the lack of transmission lines, the 40MW electricity imported from India has reached till Hetauda. The delay to complete the Dhalkewar-Khimti transmission line has been the reason for this. Energy minister Janardan Sharma who inspected the construction site earlier in December has directed for the speedy completion of the project.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">"A tower near Sindhuligadi which is under high tension Line has to be shifted," informs Kiran Raj Timilsina, one of the members of inspection team. "The concept of grid connected solar is being put forward with a target to fulfill the growing demand of electricity," Dhakal said. "Its initial use will be done by installing solar panel on the terrace of offices inside Singhadurbar and the produced electricity will be connected to grid and distributed in the related offices." However, in the recent time, ISPs are focused on providing cable internet services compared to wireless.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">According to statistics of Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) published in August/September, the share of wireless internet has reduced to around 30 percent of the overall services. The statistics which comprised of the customers of 26 different service providers shows that the ISPs have expanded their services to 132,825 customers. Among them, 109,739 customers are using cable internet, 4,474 are using dial-up and remaining 48,612 are wireless modem users. Two years ago, customers using wireless internet were more than 64,000. As per the NTA data, cable modem is replacing the wireless modem for internet services. Suman Lal Pradhan, President of Internet Service Provider of Nepal (ISPN) accepts the weaknesses of ISPs regarding the declining use of wireless technology.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Meanwhile, telecom services providers have been successful to capture a large portion of the internet services due to wireless technology. Wireless technology is based on frequency. ISPs have been providing wireless services through non-commercial frequencies. They have been providing internet services through normal frequencies that are being used in homes and offices due to the lack of the commercial frequency. </p> <p style="text-align: justify;">With the expansion of internet services, users are attracted towards high speed internet in the recent years. NTA has not distributed commercial frequency to the ISPs though it has been already decided to distribute frequency. “NTA has prepared a modality for the distribution,” says Min Prasad Aryal, Spokesperson of NTA. During the dry season, power production in the country reduces due to the lower level of flow of water in the rivers. "Another agreement for importing additional 40MW electricity from February1 has been reached to fulfill the demand which will rise with the dry season," he added, saying, "A 100 MVA transformer has been installed at the Muzaffarpur substation for additional import." As per the agreement, the additional power will cost Nepal Rs 5.60 per unit which the country has been paying to India currently. Last year, Nepal imported 347MW electricity from India. NEA has planned to import additional 220MW through four cross-border transmission lines. Under this, 40MW will be imported from Tanakpur-Mahedranagar transmission line, while the lines of Kataiya-Kusaha and Rakshaul-Parwanipur will supply 50MW each. The construction works of the transmission lines are being rapidly done for the purpose.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">According to Adhikari, the increase in import of power is in a bid to ease the difficulties the country faces from load dispatch reduction. According to NEA, Kathmandu Valley and its nearby districts are free from power cut. Similarly, power cut has been reduced significantly all over the country.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">However, due to the lack of transmission lines, the 40MW electricity imported from India has reached till Hetauda. The delay to complete the Dhalkewar-Khimti transmission line has been the reason for this. "Its initial use will be done by installing solar panel on the terrace of offices inside Singhadurbar and the produced electricity will be connected to grid and distributed in the related offices." However, in the recent time, ISPs are focused on providing cable internet services compared to wireless.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">According to statistics of Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) published in August/September, the share of wireless internet has reduced to around 30 percent of the overall services. The statistics which comprised of the customers of 26 different service providers shows that the ISPs have expanded their services to 132,825 customers. Among them, 109,739 customers are using cable internet, 4,474 are using dial-up and remaining 48,612 are wireless modem users. Two years ago, customers using wireless internet were more than 64,000. As per the NTA data, cable modem is replacing the wireless modem for internet services. Suman Lal Pradhan, President of Internet Service Provider of Nepal (ISPN) accepts the weaknesses of ISPs regarding the declining use of wireless technology.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Meanwhile, telecom services providers have been successful to capture a large portion of the internet services due to wireless technology. Wireless technology is based on frequency. ISPs have been providing wireless services through non-commercial frequencies. They have been providing internet services through normal frequencies that are being used in homes and offices due to the lack of the commercial frequency. </p> <p style="text-align: justify;">With the expansion of internet services, users are attracted towards high speed internet in the recent years. NTA has not distributed commercial frequency to the ISPs though it has been already decided to distribute frequency. “NTA has prepared a modality for the distribution,” says Min Prasad Aryal, Spokesperson of NTA. Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) permitted NT to operate 4G service three months ago.</p> <p>Telecom received permission to run Technology Neutrality and 4G on 1800 band from NTA. Refarming the 15Mhz frequency among the 1800 band, NT started the LTE service by separating 10Mhz for GSM and remaining 5Mhz for 4G service. According to the company, internet speed of up to 32.4 Mb per second will be available from the 5Mhz frequency.</p> <p>“NTA is working on to manage frequency of existing 1800 band for maximum utilization on 4G service,” said Digambar Jha, Chairman of NTA. Speaking on the launch program, Surendra Kumar Karki, Minister for Information and Communication said that the 4G service will bring revolution in the field of information and technology.</p> <p>On the process of service, the company upgraded the status of popular sector sites and network. The upgradation of 380 and 25 BTS tower in Kathmandu and Pokhara respectively have been completed. NT is planning to add 59 towers immediately. For that, Chinese mobile company Huawei is assisting NT on infrastructure aspect. The additional power has been imported through Dhalkewar-Muzaffarpur cross-border transmission line. Earlier, the transmission line was supplying 80MW electricity.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">The electricity has been brought as per the Supplementary Power Trade Agreement between the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and NTPC Vidhyut Vyapar Nigam. According to NEA Spokesperson Prabal Adhikari, the imported electricity will fulfill the demand of in the dry season. During the dry season, power production in the country reduces due to the lower level of flow of water in the rivers. "Another agreement for importing additional 40MW electricity from February1 has been reached to fulfill the demand which will rise with the dry season," he added, saying, "A 100 MVA transformer has been installed at the Muzaffarpur substation for additional import." As per the agreement, the additional power will cost Nepal Rs 5.60 per unit which the country has been paying to India currently. Last year, Nepal imported 347MW electricity from India. NEA has planned to import additional 220MW through four cross-border transmission lines. Under this, 40MW will be imported from Tanakpur-Mahedranagar transmission line, while the lines of Kataiya-Kusaha and Rakshaul-Parwanipur will supply 50MW each. The construction works of the transmission lines are being rapidly done for the purpose.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">According to Adhikari, the increase in import of power is in a bid to ease the difficulties the country faces from load dispatch reduction. According to NEA, Kathmandu Valley and its nearby districts are free from power cut. Similarly, power cut has been reduced significantly all over the country.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">However, due to the lack of transmission lines, the 40MW electricity imported from India has reached till Hetauda. The delay to complete the Dhalkewar-Khimti transmission line has been the reason for this. Energy minister Janardan Sharma who inspected the construction site earlier in December has directed for the speedy completion of the project.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">"A tower near Sindhuligadi which is under high tension Line has to be shifted," informs Kiran Raj Timilsina, one of the members of inspection team. He said that Sharma has directed to shift the tower as soon as possible to an appropriate place in order to complete the construction work. Presently, the imported electricity will be consumed from Dhalkewar to Hetauda.
