<p style="text-align: justify;">The credit extension was increased by 10.8 percent in the same period of the previous FY. In the review period, private sector credit from commercial banks and development banks increased by 17.6 percent and 6.5 percent respectively, while that of finance companies decreased by 3.6 percent, as per the report. On y-o-y basis, credit to the private sector from BFIs increased by 28.9 percent in mid-March 2017.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The report shows that credit to the agriculture sector increased by 8.5 percent, industrial production sector by 12.0 percent and construction sector by 17.9 percent. Similarly, the credit to wholesale and retail trade sector increased by 13.0 percent, service industries sector by 14.7 percent and transport, communication and public sector by 22.4 percent in the review period.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">As per the report, of the total outstanding credit of BFIs, 60.2 percent is against the collateral of land and building and 14.5 percent against the collateral of current assets (such as agricultural and nonagricultural products) in the review period.&nbsp; Such ratios were 59.7 percent and 13 percent respectively in the same period of the previous year.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Moreover, the report reveals that of the total lending of bank and financial institutions, the share of real estate (including personal home loan up to Rs 10 million) was 15.1 percent in mid-March 2017. Meanwhile, of the total lending of commercial banks, credit to small and medium enterprises was only 2.6 percent (Rs 42.69 billion) in mid-March 2017. Similarly, Trust Receipt (T.R.) loan extended by commercial banks increased 14.1 percent (Rs 10.23 billion) in the review period compared to an increase of 1.2 percent in the same period of the previous year.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The report proves that the country is compelled to import onions from other countries despite of being able to cultivate it in its own land. &nbsp;According to the official of the center, billions of rupees are flowing out of the country in onion import.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">&nbsp;&ldquo;The domestic production is not sufficient to meet the demand of the country resulting import unavoidable,&rdquo; said an official at the centre. &ldquo;Moreover, onion is imported in order to avoid price inflation caused by scarcity of onion due to low production,&rdquo; said stakeholders.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Although there is extreme potential in Nepal to produce onion in its own, it could not be done as per the demand. Meanwhile, onion producers complain that the cost of the production is quite high in onion cultivation. &nbsp;Moreover, the producers opined that the problem lies beneath the government&rsquo;s differentiation towards the onion production. &nbsp;&ldquo;Lack of resources in the country and support from government plays equal part in the particular problem,&rdquo; said the onion producers. &nbsp;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">As per the statistics of TEPC, Nepal has been importing even more onion in recent days. In the FY 2071/72, Nepal imported more than 96.3 million kilograms onion worth more than Rs 3 billion.&nbsp; However, the quantity exceeds to 120 million kilograms worth Rs 3.26 billion in the FY 2072/73.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to Current Macroeconomic and Financial Situation of Nepal (Based on Eight Months&rsquo; Data of 2016/71), the improved supply situation of merchandises has led decline in inflation rate. During the review period, the food inflation remained negative by 0.4 percent in mid-March 2017 from 10.3 percent in the corresponding period of the previous year.</p>

<p>Moreover, the report mentioned that a fall in prices of pulses and legumes by 11.2 percent, 2 vegetable by 8.3 percent, ghee and oil by 5.8 percent and cereal grains by 0.1 percent caused food inflation to decline. &nbsp;In food and beverage group, the prices of sugar and sugar products increased by 15.2 percent and alcoholic drinks by 10.7 percent in the review period.</p>

<p>Similarly, as per the report, the non-food inflation also declined to 5.6 percent during the review period from 10.2 percent in the corresponding period of the previous year. The decline in growth rate of prices of clothes and footwear, communication, housing and utilities, transportation, among others contributed to the moderation in non-food inflation in the review period.</p>

<p>Region wise, the Hilly region witnessed a relatively higher rate of inflation of 5.9 percent followed by 3.7 percent of Mountain region, 2.8 percent of Terai region and 1.9 percent of Kathmandu Valley in the review period. In the corresponding period of the previous year, Hilly region, Mountain region, Terai region and the Kathmandu Valley had witnessed inflation rate of 10.4 percent, 8.5 percent, 8.6 percent and 12.7 percent respectively, reads the report.&nbsp;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The credit extension was increased by 10.8 percent in the same period of the previous FY. In the review period, private sector credit from commercial banks and development banks increased by 17.6 percent and 6.5 percent respectively, while that of finance companies decreased by 3.6 percent, as per the report. On y-o-y basis, credit to the private sector from BFIs increased by 28.9 percent in mid-March 2017.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The report shows that credit to the agriculture sector increased by 8.5 percent, industrial production sector by 12.0 percent and construction sector by 17.9 percent. Similarly, the credit to wholesale and retail trade sector increased by 13.0 percent, service industries sector by 14.7 percent and transport, communication and public sector by 22.4 percent in the review period.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">As per the report, of the total outstanding credit of BFIs, 60.2 percent is against the collateral of land and building and 14.5 percent against the collateral of current assets (such as agricultural and nonagricultural products) in the review period.&nbsp; Such ratios were 59.7 percent and 13 percent respectively in the same period of the previous year.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Moreover, the report reveals that of the total lending of bank and financial institutions, the share of real estate (including personal home loan up to Rs 10 million) was 15.1 percent in mid-March 2017. Meanwhile, of the total lending of commercial banks, credit to small and medium enterprises was only 2.6 percent (Rs 42.69 billion) in mid-March 2017. Similarly, Trust Receipt (T.R.) loan extended by commercial banks increased 14.1 percent (Rs 10.23 billion) in the review period compared to an increase of 1.2 percent in the same period of the previous year.</p>

According to statistics of TEPC, Nepal imported onion worth Rs 2.44 billion within the first seven months of current fiscal year from countries including India, China, Thailand and Nicaragua.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The report proves that the country is compelled to import onions from other countries despite of being able to cultivate it in its own land. &nbsp;According to the official of the center, billions of rupees are flowing out of the country in onion import.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">&nbsp;&ldquo;The domestic production is not sufficient to meet the demand of the country resulting import unavoidable,&rdquo; said an official at the centre. &ldquo;Moreover, onion is imported in order to avoid price inflation caused by scarcity of onion due to low production,&rdquo; said stakeholders.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Although there is extreme potential in Nepal to produce onion in its own, it could not be done as per the demand. Meanwhile, onion producers complain that the cost of the production is quite high in onion cultivation. &nbsp;Moreover, the producers opined that the problem lies beneath the government&rsquo;s differentiation towards the onion production. &nbsp;&ldquo;Lack of resources in the country and support from government plays equal part in the particular problem,&rdquo; said the onion producers. &nbsp;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">As per the statistics of TEPC, Nepal has been importing even more onion in recent days. In the FY 2071/72, Nepal imported more than 96.3 million kilograms onion worth more than Rs 3 billion.&nbsp; However, the quantity exceeds to 120 million kilograms worth Rs 3.26 billion in the FY 2072/73.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to Current Macroeconomic and Financial Situation of Nepal (Based on Eight Months&rsquo; Data of 2016/71), the improved supply situation of merchandises has led decline in inflation rate. During the review period, the food inflation remained negative by 0.4 percent in mid-March 2017 from 10.3 percent in the corresponding period of the previous year.</p>

<p>Moreover, the report mentioned that a fall in prices of pulses and legumes by 11.2 percent, 2 vegetable by 8.3 percent, ghee and oil by 5.8 percent and cereal grains by 0.1 percent caused food inflation to decline. &nbsp;In food and beverage group, the prices of sugar and sugar products increased by 15.2 percent and alcoholic drinks by 10.7 percent in the review period.</p>

<p>Similarly, as per the report, the non-food inflation also declined to 5.6 percent during the review period from 10.2 percent in the corresponding period of the previous year. The decline in growth rate of prices of clothes and footwear, communication, housing and utilities, transportation, among others contributed to the moderation in non-food inflation in the review period.</p>

<p>Region wise, the Hilly region witnessed a relatively higher rate of inflation of 5.9 percent followed by 3.7 percent of Mountain region, 2.8 percent of Terai region and 1.9 percent of Kathmandu Valley in the review period. In the corresponding period of the previous year, Hilly region, Mountain region, Terai region and the Kathmandu Valley had witnessed inflation rate of 10.4 percent, 8.5 percent, 8.6 percent and 12.7 percent respectively, reads the report.&nbsp;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The credit extension was increased by 10.8 percent in the same period of the previous FY. In the review period, private sector credit from commercial banks and development banks increased by 17.6 percent and 6.5 percent respectively, while that of finance companies decreased by 3.6 percent, as per the report. On y-o-y basis, credit to the private sector from BFIs increased by 28.9 percent in mid-March 2017.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The report shows that credit to the agriculture sector increased by 8.5 percent, industrial production sector by 12.0 percent and construction sector by 17.9 percent. Similarly, the credit to wholesale and retail trade sector increased by 13.0 percent, service industries sector by 14.7 percent and transport, communication and public sector by 22.4 percent in the review period.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">As per the report, of the total outstanding credit of BFIs, 60.2 percent is against the collateral of land and building and 14.5 percent against the collateral of current assets (such as agricultural and nonagricultural products) in the review period.&nbsp; Such ratios were 59.7 percent and 13 percent respectively in the same period of the previous year.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Moreover, the report reveals that of the total lending of bank and financial institutions, the share of real estate (including personal home loan up to Rs 10 million) was 15.1 percent in mid-March 2017. Meanwhile, of the total lending of commercial banks, credit to small and medium enterprises was only 2.6 percent (Rs 42.69 billion) in mid-March 2017. Similarly, Trust Receipt (T.R.) loan extended by commercial banks increased 14.1 percent (Rs 10.23 billion) in the review period compared to an increase of 1.2 percent in the same period of the previous year.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The report proves that the country is compelled to import onions from other countries despite of being able to cultivate it in its own land. &nbsp;According to the official of the center, billions of rupees are flowing out of the country in onion import.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">&nbsp;&ldquo;The domestic production is not sufficient to meet the demand of the country resulting import unavoidable,&rdquo; said an official at the centre. &ldquo;Moreover, onion is imported in order to avoid price inflation caused by scarcity of onion due to low production,&rdquo; said stakeholders.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Although there is extreme potential in Nepal to produce onion in its own, it could not be done as per the demand. Meanwhile, onion producers complain that the cost of the production is quite high in onion cultivation. &nbsp;Moreover, the producers opined that the problem lies beneath the government&rsquo;s differentiation towards the onion production. &nbsp;&ldquo;Lack of resources in the country and support from government plays equal part in the particular problem,&rdquo; said the onion producers. &nbsp;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">As per the statistics of TEPC, Nepal has been importing even more onion in recent days. In the FY 2071/72, Nepal imported more than 96.3 million kilograms onion worth more than Rs 3 billion.&nbsp; However, the quantity exceeds to 120 million kilograms worth Rs 3.26 billion in the FY 2072/73.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to Current Macroeconomic and Financial Situation of Nepal (Based on Eight Months&rsquo; Data of 2016/71), the improved supply situation of merchandises has led decline in inflation rate. During the review period, the food inflation remained negative by 0.4 percent in mid-March 2017 from 10.3 percent in the corresponding period of the previous year.</p>

<p>Moreover, the report mentioned that a fall in prices of pulses and legumes by 11.2 percent, 2 vegetable by 8.3 percent, ghee and oil by 5.8 percent and cereal grains by 0.1 percent caused food inflation to decline. &nbsp;In food and beverage group, the prices of sugar and sugar products increased by 15.2 percent and alcoholic drinks by 10.7 percent in the review period.</p>

<p>Similarly, as per the report, the non-food inflation also declined to 5.6 percent during the review period from 10.2 percent in the corresponding period of the previous year. The decline in growth rate of prices of clothes and footwear, communication, housing and utilities, transportation, among others contributed to the moderation in non-food inflation in the review period.</p>

<p>Region wise, the Hilly region witnessed a relatively higher rate of inflation of 5.9 percent followed by 3.7 percent of Mountain region, 2.8 percent of Terai region and 1.9 percent of Kathmandu Valley in the review period. In the corresponding period of the previous year, Hilly region, Mountain region, Terai region and the Kathmandu Valley had witnessed inflation rate of 10.4 percent, 8.5 percent, 8.6 percent and 12.7 percent respectively, reads the report.&nbsp;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The credit extension was increased by 10.8 percent in the same period of the previous FY. In the review period, private sector credit from commercial banks and development banks increased by 17.6 percent and 6.5 percent respectively, while that of finance companies decreased by 3.6 percent, as per the report. On y-o-y basis, credit to the private sector from BFIs increased by 28.9 percent in mid-March 2017.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The report shows that credit to the agriculture sector increased by 8.5 percent, industrial production sector by 12.0 percent and construction sector by 17.9 percent. Similarly, the credit to wholesale and retail trade sector increased by 13.0 percent, service industries sector by 14.7 percent and transport, communication and public sector by 22.4 percent in the review period.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">As per the report, of the total outstanding credit of BFIs, 60.2 percent is against the collateral of land and building and 14.5 percent against the collateral of current assets (such as agricultural and nonagricultural products) in the review period.&nbsp; Such ratios were 59.7 percent and 13 percent respectively in the same period of the previous year.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Moreover, the report reveals that of the total lending of bank and financial institutions, the share of real estate (including personal home loan up to Rs 10 million) was 15.1 percent in mid-March 2017. Meanwhile, of the total lending of commercial banks, credit to small and medium enterprises was only 2.6 percent (Rs 42.69 billion) in mid-March 2017. Similarly, Trust Receipt (T.R.) loan extended by commercial banks increased 14.1 percent (Rs 10.23 billion) in the review period compared to an increase of 1.2 percent in the same period of the previous year.</p>

The report issued by Trade and Export Promotion Center (TEPC) suggests that Nepal has been importing onion from India and other countries. According to statistics of TEPC, Nepal imported onion worth Rs 2.44 billion within the first seven months of current fiscal year from countries including India, China, Thailand and Nicaragua.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The report proves that the country is compelled to import onions from other countries despite of being able to cultivate it in its own land. &nbsp;According to the official of the center, billions of rupees are flowing out of the country in onion import.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">&nbsp;&ldquo;The domestic production is not sufficient to meet the demand of the country resulting import unavoidable,&rdquo; said an official at the centre. &ldquo;Moreover, onion is imported in order to avoid price inflation caused by scarcity of onion due to low production,&rdquo; said stakeholders.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Although there is extreme potential in Nepal to produce onion in its own, it could not be done as per the demand. Meanwhile, onion producers complain that the cost of the production is quite high in onion cultivation. &nbsp;Moreover, the producers opined that the problem lies beneath the government&rsquo;s differentiation towards the onion production. &nbsp;&ldquo;Lack of resources in the country and support from government plays equal part in the particular problem,&rdquo; said the onion producers. &nbsp;</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">As per the statistics of TEPC, Nepal has been importing even more onion in recent days. In the FY 2071/72, Nepal imported more than 96.3 million kilograms onion worth more than Rs 3 billion.&nbsp; However, the quantity exceeds to 120 million kilograms worth Rs 3.26 billion in the FY 2072/73.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to Current Macroeconomic and Financial Situation of Nepal (Based on Eight Months&rsquo; Data of 2016/71), the improved supply situation of merchandises has led decline in inflation rate. During the review period, the food inflation remained negative by 0.4 percent in mid-March 2017 from 10.3 percent in the corresponding period of the previous year.</p>

<p>Moreover, the report mentioned that a fall in prices of pulses and legumes by 11.2 percent, 2 vegetable by 8.3 percent, ghee and oil by 5.8 percent and cereal grains by 0.1 percent caused food inflation to decline. &nbsp;In food and beverage group, the prices of sugar and sugar products increased by 15.2 percent and alcoholic drinks by 10.7 percent in the review period.</p>

<p>Similarly, as per the report, the non-food inflation also declined to 5.6 percent during the review period from 10.2 percent in the corresponding period of the previous year. The decline in growth rate of prices of clothes and footwear, communication, housing and utilities, transportation, among others contributed to the moderation in non-food inflation in the review period.</p>

<p>Region wise, the Hilly region witnessed a relatively higher rate of inflation of 5.9 percent followed by 3.7 percent of Mountain region, 2.8 percent of Terai region and 1.9 percent of Kathmandu Valley in the review period. In the corresponding period of the previous year, Hilly region, Mountain region, Terai region and the Kathmandu Valley had witnessed inflation rate of 10.4 percent, 8.5 percent, 8.6 percent and 12.7 percent respectively, reads the report.&nbsp;</p>
