In 2016, the number of tourists who visited Nepal was 728,550.

The government had declared 2011 as tourism year and set a target of welcoming one million tourists each year. Although it has already been six years since the announcement, the government has not achieved its target so far.

Nevertheless, Nepal Tourism Board’s CEO Deepak Raj Joshi says that it is very encouraging to have almost a million tourists in Nepal in the current situation. He said that the encouraging number of tourist arrival has given a positive message at a time when the country is going through political transition and trying to rebuild following the devastating earthquakes of 2015.

Besides political turmoil which the country has been going through, lack of infrastructure has been the major hindrance in attracting more tourists, according to the president of Hotel Association of Nepal, Amar Man Shakya.

“The one and only international airport of the country has been handling much more passengers than its capacity. The condition of roads is even more pathetic. But still the tourists are arriving. It won’t be a problem to attract more tourists once these problems are addressed,” said Shakya.
', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2018-01-16', 'modified' => '2018-01-16', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '7130', 'image' => null, 'article_date' => '2018-01-16 00:00:00', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => true, 'in_scroller' => false, 'user_id' => '16' ) ), (int) 14 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '7347', 'article_category_id' => '1', 'title' => 'Khalti App Crosses 50,000 Downloads Mark', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'January 16: Within one year of its launch, Khalti Digital Wallet app - an Android application which is very much handy in making electronic payment – has crossed the mark of 50,000 downloads.', 'content' => '
January 16: Within one year of its launch, Khalti Digital Wallet app - an Android application which is very much handy in making electronic payment – has crossed the mark of 50,000 downloads.

Issuing a press statement, the developers said that the app hit the milestone in the second week of January, two weeks before its first anniversary. According to government data, 940,218 tourists visited Nepal last year. The number of tourists visiting Nepal in 2017 is more than the number of tourists visiting the country the previous year by 211,668.

', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2018-01-16', 'modified' => '2018-01-16', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '7130', 'image' => null, 'article_date' => '2018-01-16 00:00:00', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => true, 'in_scroller' => false, 'user_id' => '16' ) ), (int) 14 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '7347', 'article_category_id' => '1', 'title' => 'Khalti App Crosses 50,000 Downloads Mark', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'January 16: Within one year of its launch, Khalti Digital Wallet app - an Android application which is very much handy in making electronic payment – has crossed the mark of 50,000 downloads.', 'content' => '

', 'content' => '
January 16: Although the government did not succeed in meeting its target of welcoming one million tourists in Nepal every year, the number of visitors was quite encouraging last year. According to government data, 940,218 tourists visited Nepal last year. The number of tourists visiting Nepal in 2017 is more than the number of tourists visiting the country the previous year by 211,668.

', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2018-01-16', 'modified' => '2018-01-16', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '7130', 'image' => null, 'article_date' => '2018-01-16 00:00:00', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => true, 'in_scroller' => false, 'user_id' => '16' ) ), (int) 14 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '7347', 'article_category_id' => '1', 'title' => 'Khalti App Crosses 50,000 Downloads Mark', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'January 16: Within one year of its launch, Khalti Digital Wallet app - an Android application which is very much handy in making electronic payment – has crossed the mark of 50,000 downloads.', 'content' => '
