Similarly, energy sector will receive the highest priority to address energy emergency period as announced by the government. NPC said that the budget will give adequate attention in maintaining good governance by making development expenditure more productive and decreasing general expenses. </p> <p>Construction of large airports, upgradation of highways, implementation of five-year roadway plan, expansion of irrigation areas and river control projects will also get high priorities in the budget. Meanwhile, social infrastructure, modernization of agriculture along with industry and tourism sector will also get important space in the budget. But drug manufacturers have rejected the government fixed rates claiming the prices to be unreasonable in the present context. </p> <p>District Administration Office (DAO) of Kathmandu on March 4 arrested prominent pharmaceutical makers on charge of selling medicines at prices higher than the government-set rates. Later, they were freed after intense pressure from the private sector. The dispute still persists between the government and medicine manufacturers regarding the issue.</p> <p>“The state has adopted free-economic policies in constitution itself, thus the government cannot pressurise drug manufacturers to sell medicine in fixed MRPs,” says Pashupati Murarka, President of Federation of Nepaleses Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI). “Drug manufacturers should be authorised to price their products so that they can compete in the international market following the market trends.” He said that with the rising value of US dollar, price of raw materials have also increased. “But the government is not considering these facts,” he argues. </p> <p>“Scientific pricing mechanism of medicine is necessary,” says Shankar Ghimire, President of APPON. But drug manufacturers have rejected the government fixed rates claiming the prices to be unreasonable in the present context. </p> <p>District Administration Office (DAO) of Kathmandu on March 4 arrested prominent pharmaceutical makers on charge of selling medicines at prices higher than the government-set rates. Later, they were freed after intense pressure from the private sector. The dispute still persists between the government and medicine manufacturers regarding the issue.</p> <p>“The state has adopted free-economic policies in constitution itself, thus the government cannot pressurise drug manufacturers to sell medicine in fixed MRPs,” says Pashupati Murarka, President of Federation of Nepaleses Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI). “Drug manufacturers should be authorised to price their products so that they can compete in the international market following the market trends.” He said that with the rising value of US dollar, price of raw materials have also increased. “But the government is not considering these facts,” he argues. </p> <p>“Scientific pricing mechanism of medicine is necessary,” says Shankar Ghimire, President of APPON.
