November 21: A panel of judges has announced the top 5 finalists of Integrity Idol to identify and celebrate Nepal’s most honest government officials.

According to the Accountability Lab, the finalists were selected from over 1062 nominations, and the public is now invited to vote for their favorite idol.

“Lack of integrity remains at the heart of Nepal’s challenges, and citizens often feel they are helpless to do anything about this issue. But through Integrity Idol, citizens are able to engage in a positive discussion about these issues and vote for the person that they believe has demonstrated accountable and honest actions through their role in the public sector,” reads a statement issued by Accountability Lab.

The 5 finalists include Arun Kafle, Dhruba Raj Acharya, Mahendra Prasad Poudyal, Ram Bahadur Kurumbang and Sita Kumari Sharma.

Arun Kafle, a senior horticulture development officer at Khumaltar, Lalitpur has made great technological contributions to the agriculture industry by introducing ‘soil-less’ vegetable farming.

Dhruba Raj Acharya, chief administrative officer of Tikapur Municipality, Kailali, is a hardworking official who encourages political parties with differing views to work together to solve issues.

Under-Secretary for Ministry of Youth and Sport Mahendra Prasad Poudyal is passionate about ensuring that youths have the right to information and has also supported talented youths in receiving support from the government.

Bardiya’s Chief District Officer Ram Bahadur Kurumbang  leaves the comfort of his office and goes door to door of the citizens providing important government services for those who are out of reach, ensuring every citizen can access services.

Sita Kumari Sharma, a senior ANM at Birendranagar Municipal Health Office, Surkhet, has been helping women and teenage girls in rural communities or flood-affected areas.

Viewers can choose their preferred contestant online from : http://www.integrityidol.org/countries/nepal/  or via SMS.

To vote through SMS, one needs to go to the message box and type IIN <space> Voting Code and send it to 34001.

The voting codes for the finalists are: Arun Kafle- 1, Dhruba Raj Acharya-2, Mahendra Prasad Paudyal-3, Ram Bahadur Kurumbang- 4, and, Sita Kumari Sharma-5. The winner will be announced on December 7, 2018 at a national ceremony to be held at Karki Banquet, Babarmal.
