KATHMANDU, July 25
Burhan Wilderness Camps in Bardiya district has been included in Time Magazine's list of the world's greatest places for 2024. This list highlights the top 100 destinations around the globe to explore in the coming year.
Established about two years ago by conservationists Prabha Gautam and Manoj Gautam, the sister-brother duo, Burhan Wilderness Camps is located at the Khata Wildlife Corridor near Bardiya National Park. According to Time magazine, the camp offers visitors bushwalks, canoe trips, wildlife tracking with anti-poaching units, and opportunities to view Asiatic elephants, one-horned rhinos, and the Royal Bengal Tiger.
Bal Krishna Joshi, husband of Prabha Gautam, expressed his joy to NewBiz. Joshi described Burhan Wilderness Camps as a commitment to eco-friendly tourism.
“We have adhered to the 'leave no trace' philosophy,” Joshi said in a phone interview. “Tourists stay in luxurious tents and enjoy local Tharu cuisine.”
He also noted that “the tourist flow has been steady, and it has created employment opportunities for locals.”
Joshi added that they plan to open the tree houses after the monsoon and hope this model will serve as a suitable example for locals in the future.
“Burhan Wilderness Camps is an effort for natural conservation through responsible tourism,” Joshi added.
