Issuing a statement on Monday, Joint spokesperson of the ministry, Dr Samir Kumar Adhikari said that new variant of the corona virus Omicron XBB 1.16 has been found in the neighboring countries causing to spread the new infection
in Nepal.
When 24 samples were tested, the Omicron variant was confirmed in all the 24, according to the Ministry. The National Public Health Laboratory has confirmed eight variants of Omicron so far.
The Ministry has called for multi-sector support and coordination including vaccination, observing public health standards to prevent the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, which is still not fully under control.
