Inflow of Remittance Declines by 1.7 Percent

April  13: Inflow of remittance decreased 1.7 percent to Rs 631.19 billion in the eighth month of the current fiscal year against an increase of 8.7 percent in the corresponding period of the previous year.

In the US dollar terms, inflow of remittance decreased 3.0 percent to 5.28 billion in the review period against an increase of 5.0 percent in the same period of the previous year, according to the Current Macroeconomic and Financial Situation Report prepared by Nepal Rastra Bank.

According to the report, the number of Nepali workers taking approval for foreign employment increased significantly to 227,900 in the review period. The number includes both institutional and individual applicants.

The number of applicants had decreased 82.9 percent in the same period of the previous year.

Likewise, the number of Nepali workers renewing approval for foreign employment increased 240.9 percent to 178,262 in the review period. It had decreased 70.2 percent in the same period of the previous year, according to the central bank’s report.

Similarly, the net transfer decreased 2.0 percent to Rs 704.33 billion in the review period. Such a transfer had increased 7.2 percent in the same period of the previous year.
