<p>Despite damages worth billion of rupees, the 2015 earthquakes did not affect Nepal&rsquo;s economy in a fundamental manner, pointed out Dr Yuba Raj Khatiwada, former Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission while making a presentation to provide an overview of the medium to long-term impact on the economy, at a discussion forum organised by South Asia Watch on Trade, Economics and Environment (SAWTEE) in Kathmandu on Wednesday, December 20.</p>

<p>During the discussion program titled &ldquo;<em>Impact of Post Earthquake Reconstruction on the Economy&rdquo;,</em> Dr Yuba Raj Bhusal, CEO of National Reconstruction Authority (NRA), said that the impact of earthquakes on national economy may be negligible but the distress on the individual household level is severe and has further amplified the magnitude of vulnerability of many.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Khatiwada pointed out that the economy seemed to have stagnated in the subsequent fiscal year 2015-16, but the border blockade in the same year also affected the economic activities which manifested as marginal growth that year.</p>

<p>He suggested that there exist both fiscal and monetary space for accommodative macro policies to expedite reconstruction, and it may be necessary to resort to deficit financing for reconstruction, as capital constraints would otherwise hinder the economic growth process and perpetuate low-investment-low growth-low saving-low investment cycle, SAWTEE quoted Khatiwada as saying in a statement.</p>

<p>Likewise, he also recommended that it is better for the government to finance the reconstruction through grants than from concessional loans to prevent country from falling in debt stress due to debt accumulation. He attributed the slow pace of reconstruction to the regulatory hassles and problems with coordination among the responsible government agencies.</p>

<p>Referring to housing reconstruction activities, Bhusal pointed out that the NRA is targeting to complete the construction of 450,000 houses by the end of this fiscal year. Further, to expedite the process, they will mobilise personnel to solve the problems that has slowed down the pace.</p>

<p>Dr Bishnu Dev Pant, executive chairman of the Institute of Integrated Development Studies, emphasised that more skill development trainings are necessary to meet the labour shortage and to tackle exodus of Nepali workforce for the benefit of all.</p>

<p>Likewise, Dr Shankar Sharma, former Vice Chairman of National Planning Commission, also pointed out that we need to have a positive outlook as the reconstruction activities do not take place overnight and although it is slow right now it will gather pace eventually.</p>

<p>Some 30 participants from various organizations, including research institutions, experts, activists and development partners, participated in the event. <a name="_GoBack"></a></p>

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ganesh Regmi of District Police Office, Parsa confirmed that two firefighters were killed by the inferno.</p>

<p>Earlier, the decision of NOC to increase price before the election was revoked by the government. The state-run petroleum monopoly then increased the price after elections on December 8. Again after 12 days, NOC hiked the price of petroleum products on December 20. According to NOC, the prices were adjusted with the increase in fuel prices in the international market.</p>

<p>The prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and aviation turbine fuel are still the same. LPG costs Rs 1350 per cylinder.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

The two-day conference was organised in Kathmandu on December 18 and 19 by the Department of Health Services, Department of Food Technology and Quality Control, and the Nepal Food Corporation(NFC) in association with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).</p>

<p>A press statement issued by WFP says that malnutrition in general is a serious public health concern in Nepal. The country&rsquo;s rates of iron deficiency and anaemia remain high. The 2016 Nepal Demographic and Health Survey has revealed more than one in four women of reproductive age and more than half of the children of 6-59 months to be anaemic, the statement says.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Among pregnant and breastfeeding women, the prevalence of anaemia reaches each 46 percent; among children of 12-17 months, it hits an alarming 74 percent,&rdquo; the statement warned.</p>

<p>The conference noted that nutrients most commonly used in food grain fortification are iron and folic acid. Fortifying rice with essential vitamins and minerals will lead to better health, especially amongst those that are poor and vulnerable, said the stakeholders.&nbsp;</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>

<p>&ldquo;Chronic malnutrition, especially among women, adolescent girls and children, is a terrible burden for the people of Nepal, both in terms of health and economic productivity,&rdquo; said Pippa Bradford, WFP Nepal Country Director. &ldquo;Micronutrient fortification is a cost-efficient intervention that can really help tackle this problem.&rdquo;</p>

<p>Experts in fortification shared insights during the conference while the food fortification strategies and experiences in Nepal till date were also reviewed.</p>

<p>Participants included government representatives, the Nepal Food Corporation, the private sector, UN agencies, and national and international NGOs, as well as entrepreneurs, academia, civil society groups, media and consumer associations.</p>

<p>WFP said it is working &nbsp;in collaboration with the Government of Nepal to achieve Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), which calls for an end to all forms of malnutrition.&nbsp; The agency has been advocating rice fortification to tackle micronutrient deficiencies across Asia.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

Later, the government assigned the task to build the fast track to the NA.</p>

<p>The initial agreement reached between the concerned stakeholders regarding the NA purchasing the DPR prepared by Indian company Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (ILFS) has not yet materialized. Due to this, speculation is rife that the project will be delayed.</p>

<p>However, Brigadier General Nain Raj Dahal, spokesperson of NA, said that the possibility of delay in construction of the project is very slim.</p>

<p>&ldquo;We are studying the DPR for the project prepared by the Indian company. So, we cannot say anything in this regard right now,&rdquo; he said, adding, &ldquo;The DPR is being studied and we will submit a report to the government with amendments.&rdquo;</p>

<p>The NA had taken over the responsibility of building the 76.2 kilometers fast track with an aim of completing it in four years.</p>

<p>&ldquo;We are discussing about the subject and there will be no problem in the future for we have our own design for the fast track,&rdquo; Dahal told New Business Age, adding, &ldquo;Tender notices have already been issued and materials for the construction have been purchased too.&rdquo;</p>

<p>The government has allocated Rs 10 billion in the current fiscal year while the estimated cost of the project is Rs 112 billion.</p>

Padam Baduwal, mayor of Badimalika Municipality inaugurated the branch in the presence of Narayan Prasad Poudel, executive director (Financial Institution Regulation Department) of Nepal Rastra Bank, reads a press statement issued by the bank. The branch situated at Badimalika Municipality Ward-8 of Martadi, Bajura was initially opened on July 6.</p>

<p>Sakchyam is a UK Aid funded programme implemented for DFID Nepal by Louis Berger. It is being implemented in Nepal in partnership with local and international institutions.&nbsp;</p>

<p>NIC ASIA Bank believes that its partnership with Sakchyam will play a very crucial role in gradually enriching the banking activities in unbanked/underserved areas of the country. The bank said that it will support in implementing Nepal government&rsquo;s program to increase access to banking service in all areas of the country.</p>

<div><span style="font-size:13px">Jun Sakuma, chief representative of JICA Nepal and Madhu Prasad Regmi, secretary at the Ministry of Education, jointly inaugurated the school infrastructures amidst a function held on the school premises, JICA said in a statement.</span></div>

<div><span style="font-size:13px">The construction of the buildings which began in June 2016 was built under Emergency School Reconstruction Project (ESRP). The project is being implemented by the Central Level Project Implementation Unit of the Ministry of Education under Japanese ODA loan assistance.</span></div>

<div><span style="font-size:13px">&ldquo;The school was severely damaged during the earthquake of 2015. Since then, the school faced difficulties in managing the classrooms and education for the students. The secondary school was established back in 1963 and now has 474 students altogether. The new buildings are constructed with multihazard resilient structures which are environment, child, gender and disable friendly and are expected to provide improved learning environment to the students,&rdquo; reads the statement.</span></div>

<div><span style="font-size:13px">Speaking at the event, JICA Nepal&rsquo;s Chief Representative Sakuma said, &ldquo;Development of education sector in Nepal is one of primary motives of JICA and completion of this building is a positive commencement to various ongoing school reconstruction endeavors of JICA Nepal.&rdquo;</span></div>

<div><span style="font-size:13px">Approximately 300 schools are being built at a total cost of 14 billion Japanese yen (about NRs 12.7 billion) to support the reconstruction of disaster resilient schools in Gorkha, Dhading, Nuwakot, Makwanpur, Rasuwa and Lalitpur districts, based on the earthquake-resistant type design guidelines formulated by JICA under the principle of &ldquo;Build Back Better (BBB)&rdquo;. The rebuilt schools are expected to serve as potential regional hubs for improving the quality of education.</span></div>

<p>Despite damages worth billion of rupees, the 2015 earthquakes did not affect Nepal&rsquo;s economy in a fundamental manner, pointed out Dr Yuba Raj Khatiwada, former Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission while making a presentation to provide an overview of the medium to long-term impact on the economy, at a discussion forum organised by South Asia Watch on Trade, Economics and Environment (SAWTEE) in Kathmandu on Wednesday, December 20.</p>

<p>During the discussion program titled &ldquo;<em>Impact of Post Earthquake Reconstruction on the Economy&rdquo;,</em> Dr Yuba Raj Bhusal, CEO of National Reconstruction Authority (NRA), said that the impact of earthquakes on national economy may be negligible but the distress on the individual household level is severe and has further amplified the magnitude of vulnerability of many.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Khatiwada pointed out that the economy seemed to have stagnated in the subsequent fiscal year 2015-16, but the border blockade in the same year also affected the economic activities which manifested as marginal growth that year.</p>

<p>He suggested that there exist both fiscal and monetary space for accommodative macro policies to expedite reconstruction, and it may be necessary to resort to deficit financing for reconstruction, as capital constraints would otherwise hinder the economic growth process and perpetuate low-investment-low growth-low saving-low investment cycle, SAWTEE quoted Khatiwada as saying in a statement.</p>

<p>Likewise, he also recommended that it is better for the government to finance the reconstruction through grants than from concessional loans to prevent country from falling in debt stress due to debt accumulation. He attributed the slow pace of reconstruction to the regulatory hassles and problems with coordination among the responsible government agencies.</p>

<p>Referring to housing reconstruction activities, Bhusal pointed out that the NRA is targeting to complete the construction of 450,000 houses by the end of this fiscal year. Further, to expedite the process, they will mobilise personnel to solve the problems that has slowed down the pace.</p>

<p>Dr Bishnu Dev Pant, executive chairman of the Institute of Integrated Development Studies, emphasised that more skill development trainings are necessary to meet the labour shortage and to tackle exodus of Nepali workforce for the benefit of all.</p>

<p>Likewise, Dr Shankar Sharma, former Vice Chairman of National Planning Commission, also pointed out that we need to have a positive outlook as the reconstruction activities do not take place overnight and although it is slow right now it will gather pace eventually.</p>

<p>Some 30 participants from various organizations, including research institutions, experts, activists and development partners, participated in the event. <a name="_GoBack"></a></p>

The two-day conference was organised in Kathmandu on December 18 and 19 by the Department of Health Services, Department of Food Technology and Quality Control, and the Nepal Food Corporation(NFC) in association with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).</p>

<p>A press statement issued by WFP says that malnutrition in general is a serious public health concern in Nepal. The country&rsquo;s rates of iron deficiency and anaemia remain high. The 2016 Nepal Demographic and Health Survey has revealed more than one in four women of reproductive age and more than half of the children of 6-59 months to be anaemic, the statement says.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Among pregnant and breastfeeding women, the prevalence of anaemia reaches each 46 percent; among children of 12-17 months, it hits an alarming 74 percent,&rdquo; the statement warned.</p>

<p>The conference noted that nutrients most commonly used in food grain fortification are iron and folic acid. Fortifying rice with essential vitamins and minerals will lead to better health, especially amongst those that are poor and vulnerable, said the stakeholders.&nbsp;</p>

<p>&ldquo;Chronic malnutrition, especially among women, adolescent girls and children, is a terrible burden for the people of Nepal, both in terms of health and economic productivity,&rdquo; said Pippa Bradford, WFP Nepal Country Director. &ldquo;Micronutrient fortification is a cost-efficient intervention that can really help tackle this problem.&rdquo;</p>

<p>Experts in fortification shared insights during the conference while the food fortification strategies and experiences in Nepal till date were also reviewed.</p>

<p>Participants included government representatives, the Nepal Food Corporation, the private sector, UN agencies, and national and international NGOs, as well as entrepreneurs, academia, civil society groups, media and consumer associations.</p>

<p>WFP said it is working &nbsp;in collaboration with the Government of Nepal to achieve Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), which calls for an end to all forms of malnutrition.&nbsp; The agency has been advocating rice fortification to tackle micronutrient deficiencies across Asia.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>The initial agreement reached between the concerned stakeholders regarding the NA purchasing the DPR prepared by Indian company Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (ILFS) has not yet materialized. Due to this, speculation is rife that the project will be delayed.</p>

<p>However, Brigadier General Nain Raj Dahal, spokesperson of NA, said that the possibility of delay in construction of the project is very slim.</p>

<p>&ldquo;We are studying the DPR for the project prepared by the Indian company. So, we cannot say anything in this regard right now,&rdquo; he said, adding, &ldquo;The DPR is being studied and we will submit a report to the government with amendments.&rdquo;</p>

<p>The NA had taken over the responsibility of building the 76.2 kilometers fast track with an aim of completing it in four years.</p>

<p>&ldquo;We are discussing about the subject and there will be no problem in the future for we have our own design for the fast track,&rdquo; Dahal told New Business Age, adding, &ldquo;Tender notices have already been issued and materials for the construction have been purchased too.&rdquo;</p>

<p>The government has allocated Rs 10 billion in the current fiscal year while the estimated cost of the project is Rs 112 billion.</p>

<div><span style="font-size:13px">The construction of the buildings which began in June 2016 was built under Emergency School Reconstruction Project (ESRP). The project is being implemented by the Central Level Project Implementation Unit of the Ministry of Education under Japanese ODA loan assistance.</span></div>

<div><span style="font-size:13px">&ldquo;The school was severely damaged during the earthquake of 2015. Since then, the school faced difficulties in managing the classrooms and education for the students. The secondary school was established back in 1963 and now has 474 students altogether. The new buildings are constructed with multihazard resilient structures which are environment, child, gender and disable friendly and are expected to provide improved learning environment to the students,&rdquo; reads the statement.</span></div>

<div><span style="font-size:13px">Speaking at the event, JICA Nepal&rsquo;s Chief Representative Sakuma said, &ldquo;Development of education sector in Nepal is one of primary motives of JICA and completion of this building is a positive commencement to various ongoing school reconstruction endeavors of JICA Nepal.&rdquo;</span></div>

<div><span style="font-size:13px">Approximately 300 schools are being built at a total cost of 14 billion Japanese yen (about NRs 12.7 billion) to support the reconstruction of disaster resilient schools in Gorkha, Dhading, Nuwakot, Makwanpur, Rasuwa and Lalitpur districts, based on the earthquake-resistant type design guidelines formulated by JICA under the principle of &ldquo;Build Back Better (BBB)&rdquo;. The rebuilt schools are expected to serve as potential regional hubs for improving the quality of education.</span></div>

<p>Despite damages worth billion of rupees, the 2015 earthquakes did not affect Nepal&rsquo;s economy in a fundamental manner, pointed out Dr Yuba Raj Khatiwada, former Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission while making a presentation to provide an overview of the medium to long-term impact on the economy, at a discussion forum organised by South Asia Watch on Trade, Economics and Environment (SAWTEE) in Kathmandu on Wednesday, December 20.</p>

<p>During the discussion program titled &ldquo;<em>Impact of Post Earthquake Reconstruction on the Economy&rdquo;,</em> Dr Yuba Raj Bhusal, CEO of National Reconstruction Authority (NRA), said that the impact of earthquakes on national economy may be negligible but the distress on the individual household level is severe and has further amplified the magnitude of vulnerability of many.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Khatiwada pointed out that the economy seemed to have stagnated in the subsequent fiscal year 2015-16, but the border blockade in the same year also affected the economic activities which manifested as marginal growth that year.</p>

<p>He suggested that there exist both fiscal and monetary space for accommodative macro policies to expedite reconstruction, and it may be necessary to resort to deficit financing for reconstruction, as capital constraints would otherwise hinder the economic growth process and perpetuate low-investment-low growth-low saving-low investment cycle, SAWTEE quoted Khatiwada as saying in a statement.</p>

<p>Likewise, he also recommended that it is better for the government to finance the reconstruction through grants than from concessional loans to prevent country from falling in debt stress due to debt accumulation. He attributed the slow pace of reconstruction to the regulatory hassles and problems with coordination among the responsible government agencies.</p>

<p>Referring to housing reconstruction activities, Bhusal pointed out that the NRA is targeting to complete the construction of 450,000 houses by the end of this fiscal year. Further, to expedite the process, they will mobilise personnel to solve the problems that has slowed down the pace.</p>

<p>Dr Bishnu Dev Pant, executive chairman of the Institute of Integrated Development Studies, emphasised that more skill development trainings are necessary to meet the labour shortage and to tackle exodus of Nepali workforce for the benefit of all.</p>

<p>Likewise, Dr Shankar Sharma, former Vice Chairman of National Planning Commission, also pointed out that we need to have a positive outlook as the reconstruction activities do not take place overnight and although it is slow right now it will gather pace eventually.</p>

<p>Some 30 participants from various organizations, including research institutions, experts, activists and development partners, participated in the event. <a name="_GoBack"></a></p>

<p>&ldquo;We have been investing in different social sector every year. This year, we will build an elevator in Bindyabasini Temple,&rdquo; Regmi said. To mark its anniversary, Laxmi Group also financially supported Pokhreli Youth Cultural Family with Rs 250,000. &nbsp;</p>

<p>The firefighters were killed as their fire engine itself caught fire while attempting to douse the blaze. The inferno took the life of Madhusudhan Mishra, a resident of Tanahun and Yadav Raj Adhikari, a resident of Lalbandi, Sarlahi. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ganesh Regmi of District Police Office, Parsa confirmed that two firefighters were killed by the inferno.</p>

<p>The damage caused by the flames is yet to be ascertained. The Association of LP Gas Industry has formed a five-member committee to investigate into the incident.</p>

<p>Earlier, the decision of NOC to increase price before the election was revoked by the government. The state-run petroleum monopoly then increased the price after elections on December 8. Again after 12 days, NOC hiked the price of petroleum products on December 20. According to NOC, the prices were adjusted with the increase in fuel prices in the international market.</p>

<p>The prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and aviation turbine fuel are still the same. LPG costs Rs 1350 per cylinder.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

The two-day conference was organised in Kathmandu on December 18 and 19 by the Department of Health Services, Department of Food Technology and Quality Control, and the Nepal Food Corporation(NFC) in association with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).</p>

<p>A press statement issued by WFP says that malnutrition in general is a serious public health concern in Nepal. The country&rsquo;s rates of iron deficiency and anaemia remain high. The 2016 Nepal Demographic and Health Survey has revealed more than one in four women of reproductive age and more than half of the children of 6-59 months to be anaemic, the statement says.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Among pregnant and breastfeeding women, the prevalence of anaemia reaches each 46 percent; among children of 12-17 months, it hits an alarming 74 percent,&rdquo; the statement warned.</p>

<p>The conference noted that nutrients most commonly used in food grain fortification are iron and folic acid. Fortifying rice with essential vitamins and minerals will lead to better health, especially amongst those that are poor and vulnerable, said the stakeholders.&nbsp;</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>

<p>&ldquo;Chronic malnutrition, especially among women, adolescent girls and children, is a terrible burden for the people of Nepal, both in terms of health and economic productivity,&rdquo; said Pippa Bradford, WFP Nepal Country Director. &ldquo;Micronutrient fortification is a cost-efficient intervention that can really help tackle this problem.&rdquo;</p>

<p>Experts in fortification shared insights during the conference while the food fortification strategies and experiences in Nepal till date were also reviewed.</p>

<p>Participants included government representatives, the Nepal Food Corporation, the private sector, UN agencies, and national and international NGOs, as well as entrepreneurs, academia, civil society groups, media and consumer associations.</p>

<p>WFP said it is working &nbsp;in collaboration with the Government of Nepal to achieve Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), which calls for an end to all forms of malnutrition.&nbsp; The agency has been advocating rice fortification to tackle micronutrient deficiencies across Asia.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

Even after six months of laying the foundation of the fast track, the construction of the national pride project has not started yet as the NA is still studying the DPR prepared by an Indian company which was initially handed over the responsibility of the project. Later, the government assigned the task to build the fast track to the NA.</p>

<p>The initial agreement reached between the concerned stakeholders regarding the NA purchasing the DPR prepared by Indian company Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (ILFS) has not yet materialized. Due to this, speculation is rife that the project will be delayed.</p>

<p>However, Brigadier General Nain Raj Dahal, spokesperson of NA, said that the possibility of delay in construction of the project is very slim.</p>

<p>&ldquo;We are studying the DPR for the project prepared by the Indian company. So, we cannot say anything in this regard right now,&rdquo; he said, adding, &ldquo;The DPR is being studied and we will submit a report to the government with amendments.&rdquo;</p>

<p>The NA had taken over the responsibility of building the 76.2 kilometers fast track with an aim of completing it in four years.</p>

<p>&ldquo;We are discussing about the subject and there will be no problem in the future for we have our own design for the fast track,&rdquo; Dahal told New Business Age, adding, &ldquo;Tender notices have already been issued and materials for the construction have been purchased too.&rdquo;</p>

<p>The government has allocated Rs 10 billion in the current fiscal year while the estimated cost of the project is Rs 112 billion.</p>

<div><span style="font-size:13px">Jun Sakuma, chief representative of JICA Nepal and Madhu Prasad Regmi, secretary at the Ministry of Education, jointly inaugurated the school infrastructures amidst a function held on the school premises, JICA said in a statement.</span></div>

<div><span style="font-size:13px">The construction of the buildings which began in June 2016 was built under Emergency School Reconstruction Project (ESRP). The project is being implemented by the Central Level Project Implementation Unit of the Ministry of Education under Japanese ODA loan assistance.</span></div>

<div><span style="font-size:13px">&ldquo;The school was severely damaged during the earthquake of 2015. Since then, the school faced difficulties in managing the classrooms and education for the students. The secondary school was established back in 1963 and now has 474 students altogether. The new buildings are constructed with multihazard resilient structures which are environment, child, gender and disable friendly and are expected to provide improved learning environment to the students,&rdquo; reads the statement.</span></div>

<div><span style="font-size:13px">Speaking at the event, JICA Nepal&rsquo;s Chief Representative Sakuma said, &ldquo;Development of education sector in Nepal is one of primary motives of JICA and completion of this building is a positive commencement to various ongoing school reconstruction endeavors of JICA Nepal.&rdquo;</span></div>

<div><span style="font-size:13px">Approximately 300 schools are being built at a total cost of 14 billion Japanese yen (about NRs 12.7 billion) to support the reconstruction of disaster resilient schools in Gorkha, Dhading, Nuwakot, Makwanpur, Rasuwa and Lalitpur districts, based on the earthquake-resistant type design guidelines formulated by JICA under the principle of &ldquo;Build Back Better (BBB)&rdquo;. The rebuilt schools are expected to serve as potential regional hubs for improving the quality of education.</span></div>

<p>Despite damages worth billion of rupees, the 2015 earthquakes did not affect Nepal&rsquo;s economy in a fundamental manner, pointed out Dr Yuba Raj Khatiwada, former Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission while making a presentation to provide an overview of the medium to long-term impact on the economy, at a discussion forum organised by South Asia Watch on Trade, Economics and Environment (SAWTEE) in Kathmandu on Wednesday, December 20.</p>

<p>During the discussion program titled &ldquo;<em>Impact of Post Earthquake Reconstruction on the Economy&rdquo;,</em> Dr Yuba Raj Bhusal, CEO of National Reconstruction Authority (NRA), said that the impact of earthquakes on national economy may be negligible but the distress on the individual household level is severe and has further amplified the magnitude of vulnerability of many.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Khatiwada pointed out that the economy seemed to have stagnated in the subsequent fiscal year 2015-16, but the border blockade in the same year also affected the economic activities which manifested as marginal growth that year.</p>

<p>He suggested that there exist both fiscal and monetary space for accommodative macro policies to expedite reconstruction, and it may be necessary to resort to deficit financing for reconstruction, as capital constraints would otherwise hinder the economic growth process and perpetuate low-investment-low growth-low saving-low investment cycle, SAWTEE quoted Khatiwada as saying in a statement.</p>

<p>Likewise, he also recommended that it is better for the government to finance the reconstruction through grants than from concessional loans to prevent country from falling in debt stress due to debt accumulation. He attributed the slow pace of reconstruction to the regulatory hassles and problems with coordination among the responsible government agencies.</p>

<p>Referring to housing reconstruction activities, Bhusal pointed out that the NRA is targeting to complete the construction of 450,000 houses by the end of this fiscal year. Further, to expedite the process, they will mobilise personnel to solve the problems that has slowed down the pace.</p>

<p>Dr Bishnu Dev Pant, executive chairman of the Institute of Integrated Development Studies, emphasised that more skill development trainings are necessary to meet the labour shortage and to tackle exodus of Nepali workforce for the benefit of all.</p>

<p>Likewise, Dr Shankar Sharma, former Vice Chairman of National Planning Commission, also pointed out that we need to have a positive outlook as the reconstruction activities do not take place overnight and although it is slow right now it will gather pace eventually.</p>

<p>A press statement issued by WFP says that malnutrition in general is a serious public health concern in Nepal. The country&rsquo;s rates of iron deficiency and anaemia remain high. The 2016 Nepal Demographic and Health Survey has revealed more than one in four women of reproductive age and more than half of the children of 6-59 months to be anaemic, the statement says.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Among pregnant and breastfeeding women, the prevalence of anaemia reaches each 46 percent; among children of 12-17 months, it hits an alarming 74 percent,&rdquo; the statement warned.</p>

<p>The conference noted that nutrients most commonly used in food grain fortification are iron and folic acid. Fortifying rice with essential vitamins and minerals will lead to better health, especially amongst those that are poor and vulnerable, said the stakeholders.&nbsp;</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>

<p>&ldquo;Chronic malnutrition, especially among women, adolescent girls and children, is a terrible burden for the people of Nepal, both in terms of health and economic productivity,&rdquo; said Pippa Bradford, WFP Nepal Country Director. &ldquo;Micronutrient fortification is a cost-efficient intervention that can really help tackle this problem.&rdquo;</p>

<p>Experts in fortification shared insights during the conference while the food fortification strategies and experiences in Nepal till date were also reviewed.</p>

<p>Participants included government representatives, the Nepal Food Corporation, the private sector, UN agencies, and national and international NGOs, as well as entrepreneurs, academia, civil society groups, media and consumer associations.</p>

<p>WFP said it is working &nbsp;in collaboration with the Government of Nepal to achieve Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), which calls for an end to all forms of malnutrition.&nbsp; The agency has been advocating rice fortification to tackle micronutrient deficiencies across Asia.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>The initial agreement reached between the concerned stakeholders regarding the NA purchasing the DPR prepared by Indian company Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (ILFS) has not yet materialized. Due to this, speculation is rife that the project will be delayed.</p>

<p>However, Brigadier General Nain Raj Dahal, spokesperson of NA, said that the possibility of delay in construction of the project is very slim.</p>

<p>&ldquo;We are studying the DPR for the project prepared by the Indian company. So, we cannot say anything in this regard right now,&rdquo; he said, adding, &ldquo;The DPR is being studied and we will submit a report to the government with amendments.&rdquo;</p>

<p>The NA had taken over the responsibility of building the 76.2 kilometers fast track with an aim of completing it in four years.</p>

<p>&ldquo;We are discussing about the subject and there will be no problem in the future for we have our own design for the fast track,&rdquo; Dahal told New Business Age, adding, &ldquo;Tender notices have already been issued and materials for the construction have been purchased too.&rdquo;</p>

<p>The government has allocated Rs 10 billion in the current fiscal year while the estimated cost of the project is Rs 112 billion.</p>

The project is being implemented by the Central Level Project Implementation Unit of the Ministry of Education under Japanese ODA loan assistance.</span></div>

Since then, the school faced difficulties in managing the classrooms and education for the students. The secondary school was established back in 1963 and now has 474 students altogether. <div><span style="font-size:13px">Approximately 300 schools are being built at a total cost of 14 billion Japanese yen (about NRs 12.7 billion) to support the reconstruction of disaster resilient schools in Gorkha, Dhading, Nuwakot, Makwanpur, Rasuwa and Lalitpur districts, based on the earthquake-resistant type design guidelines formulated by JICA under the principle of &ldquo;Build Back Better (BBB)&rdquo;. The rebuilt schools are expected to serve as potential regional hubs for improving the quality of education.</span></div>
