The price of fertilizer paid by the farmers and the actual demand and supply were also studied.

<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">According to the study report, farmers paid Rs 16 to 21 for a kilogram of urea which costs Rs 14. Similar is the prices of other fertilizers. Farmers had to pay Rs 45 to 50 for DAP fertilizer whose actual price was Rs 43 per kg, and Rs 33 to 37 for potassium costing just Rs 31 per kg. All the cooperatives included in the study received an average of 84 metric tons of urea, 64 metric tons of DAP and 13.3 metric tons of potassium. About 85 percent of the cooperatives claimed that the chemical fertilizers they received were much less than the demand.

<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">Stating that the government has been able to import only 50 percent of the total demand for chemical fertilizers in Nepal, Dr Udit Man Chaudhary, the coordinator of NSAF, claimed that farmers have been forced to buy fertilizers at a higher price than the price cooperatives should have sold the fertilizers. He said that farmers are bound to suffer when the demand is high and the supply is low.

<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">As mentioned in the study, Nepal is behind India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in terms of availability of chemical fertilizers to farmers in South Asia. As a result, Nepal has not been able to significantly improve productivity. According to a study conducted by NSAF in 2016, 74 kg of chemical fertilizers are used per hectare in Nepal, which is 166 kg in India, 289 kg in Bangladesh and 132 kg in Sri Lanka. Providing quality fertilizers to farmers at the right time has become the biggest challenge in Nepal.

<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">According to Rajendra Bahadur Karki, managing director of Agricultural Inputs Company Limited, who is in charge of import of government-subsidized fertilizers, no other charge is added except for the transportation fee from Birgunj, Biratnagar and Bhairahawa godowns of the company. He said that due to the cost of transportation, they have to charge a little more. However, in rural areas, farmers have to pay more than the maximum price fixed by the government, the report states.

<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">Agni Aryal, coordinator of Rajapur Paddy Super Zone, says that although the price of one kg of urea has been fixed at Rs 14 per kg by the government, most of the farmers in Banke, Bardia, Kailali, Kanchanpur etc. have to pay Rs 50 to 60 per kg. He claims that the prices of other fertilizers are also higher than those set by the government. A large amount of chemical fertilizers are also illegally imported from the Indian border.

<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">Chandrakant Dallakoti, president of Nepal Fertilizer Entrepreneurs Association says, “Since the government is unable to provide fertilizers as per the demand of the farmers, they are compelled to bring fertilizers illegally from the Indian border at rates that are double or triple the actual price. In addition, the farmers also face problems due to the government being unable to find a third option other than India to import fertilizers.”

<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">On the one hand, the budget allocated by the government for the purchase of fertilizers is limited. While on the other hand, due to fluctuations in the international market, the amount of fertilizers entering the country is decreasing. Therefore, if the farmers do not get the fertilizer they need, they have to find other alternatives.

', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2022-09-30', 'modified' => '2022-09-30', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '15844', 'image' => '20220930013520_20210610023043_20200817122726_1597613093.Clipboard02.jpg', 'article_date' => '2022-09-30 13:34:31', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => true, 'in_scroller' => null, 'user_id' => '34' ) ), (int) 10 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '16102', 'article_category_id' => '266', 'title' => 'Ncell Launches ‘Home and Away' Data Pack', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'September 30: Ncell, a leading private company providing telecommunication services in Nepal, has released a plan targeting customers during this festive season. The survey is based on a field study done on 5,582 persons above 18 years of age.
<span style="font-family:"Arial Unicode MS","sans-serif"">As per the study report, the number of radio audience is 45.2 per cent and that of television is 48.5 per cent, and the number of mobile and internet users is 63 per cent, that of online news portal users is 30 per cent and that of newspapers is 15 per cent.
<span style="font-family:"Arial Unicode MS","sans-serif"">Compared to a similar study carried out by the media institution in 2020, the number of radio, television and newspaper users has gone down while that of mobile and social sites has increased.
<span style="font-family:"Arial Unicode MS","sans-serif"">The study shows that the number of radio and television audience using mobile phones with the help of the internet and not directly from the radio and television sets is also increasing.
<span style="font-family:"Arial Unicode MS","sans-serif"">As per the record maintained by the Department of Information and Broadcasting, the number of newspapers registered throughout the country in fiscal year 2021/22 is 7,874. Among these, around 1,000 are included in the Press Council Nepal's list.

<span style="font-family:Calibri,"sans-serif""><span style="font-family:"Arial Unicode MS","sans-serif"">The number of newspaper publication is found decreasing in recent times. The newspapers are found reaching their readers through their online edition. The trend of reading newspapers and magazines is decreasing due to the unavailability of newspapers in the remote and outlying areas and as people cannot afford time due to the nature of their job and work.
<span style="font-family:"Arial Unicode MS","sans-serif"">Editor of Kantipur Daily, Umesh Chauhan, said although the analysis of the study is not exciting, it is not disappointing either as newspaper, radio and television still have credibility.
<span style="font-family:"Arial Unicode MS","sans-serif"">Traditional media would have relevance if they could produce news related content as per the interest of the new generation, he mentioned.
<span style="font-family:"Arial Unicode MS","sans-serif"">As per the latest data of the Press Council Nepal, there are 3,624 online media.

', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2022-09-30', 'modified' => '2022-09-30', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '15844', 'image' => '20220930013520_20210610023043_20200817122726_1597613093.Clipboard02.jpg', 'article_date' => '2022-09-30 13:34:31', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => true, 'in_scroller' => null, 'user_id' => '34' ) ), (int) 10 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '16102', 'article_category_id' => '266', 'title' => 'Ncell Launches ‘Home and Away' Data Pack', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'September 30: Ncell, a leading private company providing telecommunication services in Nepal, has released a plan targeting customers during this festive season.

', 'published' => true, 'created' => '2022-09-30', 'modified' => '2022-09-30', 'keywords' => '', 'description' => '', 'sortorder' => '15844', 'image' => '20220930013520_20210610023043_20200817122726_1597613093.Clipboard02.jpg', 'article_date' => '2022-09-30 13:34:31', 'homepage' => false, 'breaking_news' => false, 'main_news' => true, 'in_scroller' => null, 'user_id' => '34' ) ), (int) 10 => array( 'Article' => array( 'id' => '16102', 'article_category_id' => '266', 'title' => 'Ncell Launches ‘Home and Away' Data Pack', 'sub_title' => '', 'summary' => 'September 30: Ncell, a leading private company providing telecommunication services in Nepal, has released a plan targeting customers during this festive season.
