	April 1: The Tribhuvan International Airport will remain closed for ten hours a day for three months from Monday evening for upgrading the runway.</p>
<p>
	China National Aerotechnology International has been assigned the task of upgrading the runway. According to sources at TIA, the airport will remain closed from 10 pm till 8 am every day.</p>
<p>
	Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) signed an agreement to this effect with the Chinese company on October 12. The upgrading of the runway is estimated to cost Rs 3.75 billion.</p>
<p>
	Director General of TIA Sanjeev&nbsp; Gautam said that the airport will not face any problem for the next 25 to 30 years once the runway gets upgraded.</p>
<p>
	According to him, the Chinese company will &lsquo;rehabilitate&rsquo; 80 meters of the runway every day.</p>
<p>
	The runway overlay was done four times before but this is the first time that it is being fully upgraded.</p>
<p>
	Airport authorities said they decided to overhaul the runway after recurring problems of blacktopping coming off the runway.</p>

	Domestic tourists from Kathmandu, Pokhara, Dharan, Itahari as well as Indian tourists from Sikkim and Darjeeling visit the place, known as the capital of Rhododendron, says Donga Sherpa, operator of Hotel Yak in Gufa Pokhari.</p>

	Owner of the nearby Makalu Hotel, Hari Prasad Khanal, says that his family has been tending to the needs of the tourists since generations.</p>

	According to him, the spring season witnesses massive inflow of tourists, especially to watch the bloom of Rhododendron.</p>

	Hotel entrepreneurs say that the flower started blossoming late this season. Normally, Rhododendron starts blossoming from mid-March but the locals say that the blooming of flowers might have been delayed due to excessive snowfall this year.</p>

	Chaudhary Group, one of the country&rsquo;s leading business houses, signed agreements for projects including telecom, solar power, and logistics on the occasion. The business conglomerate signed the agreement with Sky Power, Turk Cell and Sarraf Group for 600-megawatt solar plant project, 5G mobile network and multipurpose center.</p>
<p>
	Similarly, agreement on Arun III Hydropower Project was signed between Nepali banks and SJVN India</p>
<p>
	Further agreements for investment on Kali Gandaki Gorge Hydropower Project, Upper Trushuli Hydropower Project, Simara SEZ Project, Himalaya Boutique Resort, Green Ware House Construction and API Power (hydro, solar and wind power projects) were also signed during the last day of the two-day summit. &nbsp;</p>
<p>
	Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) also pledged for investment in addition to the commitments of IBN Investment Board South Africa, Muthoot Finance and United Finance.</p>
<p>
	Likewise, Myanmar&rsquo;s Contractors&rsquo; Association signed an agreement with the Federation of Contractors&rsquo; Association of Nepal.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
<p>
	The investment board additionally received applications for seventeen projects during the two-day summit.</p>
<p>
	Maha Prasad Adhikari, CEO of Nepal Investment Board said in his concluding remark during the summit that investors submitted proposals for seventeen other projects out of the total 77 projects showcased at the summit.&nbsp; Out of the 17 projects, seven include infrastructure development projects, four energy projects, three agriculture projects, two education and health projects, and one logistics project.&nbsp;</p>

	The deadline for submission of proposals for other projects is April 20. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

	She made such remarks during the 3<sup>rd</sup> Nepal-Bangladesh Business Forum held recently in Kathmandu.</p>

	The ambassador highlighted that both Nepal and Bangladesh are going through social, economic and cultural transformation, hence, working together in this process will be fruitful for both the countries.</p>

	Sunil KC, founder of AIDIA &ndash; one of the co-hosts besides the Bangladesh Embassy &ndash; said that the Double Tax Avoidance Agreement signed with Bangladesh will make it easier for investors in promoting trade and commerce.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
<p>
	During the forum, Former Foreign Secretary Madhu Raman Acharya started with a subtle comparison of how Bangladesh was earlier known as a <em>basket case</em> due to its poverty and undeveloped nature and how it has successfully become an economic role model, reads a statement issued by the organisers.</p>
<p>
	He also explained how the bilateral relation has become stagnant and not moved beyond the imagined transformation and stressed on the increasing need towards more bilateral business cooperation.</p>
<p>
	Madan Lamsal, editor-in-chief of New Business Magazine stated that &ldquo;media has a very huge role to play as it is the mirror to show the shortcomings and loopholes&rdquo;.</p>
<p>
	According to him, Nepal should learn from the success story of Bangladesh and stressed on the need to take India on board as moving forward without a strong trilateral relation including India will &ldquo;lead us nowhere&rdquo;.</p>
<p>
	Meanwhile, Madhusudan Adhikari, secretary at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, stressed on the need for building mutual trust for enhancing bilateral transport , transit and trade.</p>
<p>
	Dr Golam Rasul, chief economist at ICIMOD, said connectivity is the key to prosperity He added that the trade volume between Nepal and Bangladesh is minimal and effective transportation infrastructure can enhance bilateral trade.</p>
<p>
	&ldquo;Inland waterways connectivity between Nepal-India and Bangladesh can be a real booster from trade and commerce point of view,&rdquo; he added.</p>
<p>

	According to a statement issued by the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, the two foreign secretaries reviewed all aspects of wide ranging bilateral partnership and exchanged views on regional and other issues of mutual interest.</p>

	&ldquo;They expressed satisfaction at the substantial progress that has been achieved on bilateral projects and initiatives that were discussed and agreed to during the reciprocal visits of prime ministers of Nepal and India in April and May 2018,&rdquo; the statement added.</p>

Five years on, the region not only continues to maintain its polio-free status but is demonstrating how the polio legacy can effectively strengthen overall immunization and other programs, according to a statement issued by WHO.</p>

	&ldquo;Member countries, partners and the community themselves continue to work together to keep the crippling virus at bay. The polio program&rsquo;s emphasis on innovation and reaching everyone, everywhere is being replicated by many other public health programs with impressive results,&rdquo; said Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh, regional director of WHO South-East Asia Region.</p>

	According to WHO, the last case of wild poliovirus in the region was reported from West Bengal, India, where a two-year old girl suffered polio paralysis on January 13, 2011.&nbsp; An intense response by the government of India supported by WHO, UNICEF, Rotary International and other partners ensured it remained the last case in WHO South-East Asia Region.&nbsp;</p>
<p>
	WHO claimed that every year more than 32 million children across the region are being reached with oral polio vaccines under routine immunization and through mass polio vaccination campaigns to maintain high population immunity against polio. In India, an additional 460 million doses of oral polio vaccines were given to children through four mass polio vaccination campaigns conducted in 2018.</p>
<p>
	&ldquo;As a part of the vigilance for polio in the region, surveillance for polio continues to be further strengthened. More than 75 000 stool samples were tested in 16 poliovirus laboratories in the Region in 2018. Environmental surveillance for poliovirus detection has been expanded three-fold in the last five years. Samples are now collected for testing from 74 sites in India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar and Thailand. In 2014, environment surveillance was conducted only in India, from 23 sites,&rdquo; the statement added.</p>

	Minister for Finance Dr Yuba Raj Khatiwada informed during a press meet on Wednesday, March 27, that the government has invited investors from 40 nations to attend the summit scheduled for March 29 and 30.</p>

	According to the finance minister, 77 projects including 50 prepared by the government and twenty-seven private-owned projects will be presented at the investment summit.</p>
<p>
	He further informed that more than 600 investors along with high-ranking officials from 40 countries will attend the summit.</p>
<p>
	Myanmar&rsquo;s Minister for Investment and Foreign Economy Relation, U Thaung Tun; Vice President of the World Bank, Heart Wig Saphar; Vice President of Asian Development Bank, Shinxin Chen along with other high ranking officials are attending the investment summit scheduled to be inaugurated by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on March 29.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

	Similarly, Hans Peter Lankes, IFC&rsquo;s vice president for Economics and Private Sector Development; Hang Lee of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank along with the top ranking officials of renowned companies including Amazon, Microsoft, Power China, China Railway, and Unilever will attend the summit, added Minister Khatiwada.</p>

	According to the Investment Board, 265 Chinese investors, 120 Indian investors, 21 Japanese investors, 19 other investors will attend the investment summit. &nbsp;</p>

	March 28: The Supreme Court (SC) has inquired about the security concerns related to the embossed number plates from the government. The apex court raised the issue following complaints that the use of embossed number plates in vehicles leaves the owners vulnerable as the neighbouring countries get the information about the users. The SC issued an order to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers to furnish details regarding the security concerns and technical aspects of the embossed number plates.</p>

	A full bench of Chief Justice Cholendra SJB Rana an justices Deepak Kumar Karki, Kedar Prasad Chalise, Meera Khadka and Hari Krishna Karki issued the order to the government to present the details to the court.</p>
<p>
	The order issued by the SC on March 22 was delivered to the concerned government office on Wednesday, March 27.</p>
<p>
	The government had introduced the embossed number plates from August 17, 2017 by discarding the old number plates that has been in use since ages. It is mandatory to write the numbers in English is such number plates. The chip used in embossed number plates is believed to weaken the&nbsp; security system of the country by sending vital information to the neighbouring countries.</p>
<p>
	Arguing that the government had violated the constitution by removing Nepali alphabets from the number plates, environmental&nbsp; activist Bharat Basnet had filed a writ petition at the SC on February 18, 2018.</p>

	March 28: The number of containers arriving at Birgunj Dry Port has increased seven folds in 14 years since the dry port came into operation. In the initial phase, a total of 85 racks of containers carried goods to the dry port. The number now stands at 309 in the first eight months of the current fiscal year. A rack of railway reportedly consists of at least 90 containers</p>
<p>
	Data provided by the Himalayan Terminal Private Limited, which operates the dry port, shows that the 309 racks dropped 31,118 containers this year. In the last fiscal year, a total of 41,688 containers were brought to Birgunj, according to senior official at the dry port Animesh Kumar. &nbsp;</p>
<p>
	In FY 2004/2005 when the dry port came into operation, a total of 5,651 containers were dropped at the port.</p>
<p>
	Although the number of goods being imported from India and third countries have increased, the infrastructure of the dry port has not been expanded. The dry port is still operating in the same infrastructure built 14 years ago, stated Gopal Kedia, chairman of Birgunj Chambers of Commerce.</p>
<p>
	Importers have demanded proper management and upgrading of infrastructure arguing that the import has increased significantly.</p>
<p>
	&ldquo;The dry port is getting congested. The plan to expand the dry port has not gained pace,&rdquo; said Kedia.</p>
<p>
	The government&rsquo;s initiative to acquire 62 bigha of land between the dry port and the Integrated Check Post (ICP) in Birgunj is embroiled in a row over compensation for the land owners.</p>

	China National Aerotechnology International has been assigned the task of upgrading the runway. According to sources at TIA, the airport will remain closed from 10 pm till 8 am every day.</p>
<p>
	Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) signed an agreement to this effect with the Chinese company on October 12. The upgrading of the runway is estimated to cost Rs 3.75 billion.</p>
<p>
	Director General of TIA Sanjeev&nbsp; Gautam said that the airport will not face any problem for the next 25 to 30 years once the runway gets upgraded.</p>
<p>
	According to him, the Chinese company will &lsquo;rehabilitate&rsquo; 80 meters of the runway every day.</p>
<p>
	The runway overlay was done four times before but this is the first time that it is being fully upgraded.</p>
<p>
	Airport authorities said they decided to overhaul the runway after recurring problems of blacktopping coming off the runway.</p>

	During the forum, Former Foreign Secretary Madhu Raman Acharya started with a subtle comparison of how Bangladesh was earlier known as a <em>basket case</em> due to its poverty and undeveloped nature and how it has successfully become an economic role model, reads a statement issued by the organisers.</p>

	He also explained how the bilateral relation has become stagnant and not moved beyond the imagined transformation and stressed on the increasing need towards more bilateral business cooperation.</p>
<p>
	Madan Lamsal, editor-in-chief of New Business Magazine stated that &ldquo;media has a very huge role to play as it is the mirror to show the shortcomings and loopholes&rdquo;.</p>
<p>
	According to him, Nepal should learn from the success story of Bangladesh and stressed on the need to take India on board as moving forward without a strong trilateral relation including India will &ldquo;lead us nowhere&rdquo;.</p>
<p>
	Meanwhile, Madhusudan Adhikari, secretary at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, stressed on the need for building mutual trust for enhancing bilateral transport , transit and trade.</p>

	Dr Golam Rasul, chief economist at ICIMOD, said connectivity is the key to prosperity He added that the trade volume between Nepal and Bangladesh is minimal and effective transportation infrastructure can enhance bilateral trade.</p>

	&ldquo;Inland waterways connectivity between Nepal-India and Bangladesh can be a real booster from trade and commerce point of view,&rdquo; he added.</p>

Five years on, the region not only continues to maintain its polio-free status but is demonstrating how the polio legacy can effectively strengthen overall immunization and other programs, according to a statement issued by WHO.</p>

	&ldquo;Member countries, partners and the community themselves continue to work together to keep the crippling virus at bay. The polio program&rsquo;s emphasis on innovation and reaching everyone, everywhere is being replicated by many other public health programs with impressive results,&rdquo; said Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh, regional director of WHO South-East Asia Region.</p>

	According to WHO, the last case of wild poliovirus in the region was reported from West Bengal, India, where a two-year old girl suffered polio paralysis on January 13, 2011.&nbsp; An intense response by the government of India supported by WHO, UNICEF, Rotary International and other partners ensured it remained the last case in WHO South-East Asia Region.&nbsp;</p>
<p>
	WHO claimed that every year more than 32 million children across the region are being reached with oral polio vaccines under routine immunization and through mass polio vaccination campaigns to maintain high population immunity against polio. In India, an additional 460 million doses of oral polio vaccines were given to children through four mass polio vaccination campaigns conducted in 2018.</p>
<p>
	&ldquo;As a part of the vigilance for polio in the region, surveillance for polio continues to be further strengthened. More than 75 000 stool samples were tested in 16 poliovirus laboratories in the Region in 2018. Environmental surveillance for poliovirus detection has been expanded three-fold in the last five years. Samples are now collected for testing from 74 sites in India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar and Thailand. In 2014, environment surveillance was conducted only in India, from 23 sites,&rdquo; the statement added.</p>

	March 29: The Nepal Investment Summit organised by the government to attract foreign investment kicked off in Kathmandu on Friday, March 29.</p>
<p>
	The two-day summit was inaugurated by Prime Minster KP Sharma Oli at Soaltee Crowne Plaza in Kathmandu amid a function.</p>
<p>
	Nepal will be presenting a total 77 projects including 50 from the government and 27 from the private sector during the summit which will conclude on Saturday.</p>
<p>
	The government has beefed up security in Kathmandu for the summit.</p>
<p>
	Finance Minister Yuba Raj Khatiwada informed that more than 600 investors along with high-ranking officials from 40 countries are attending the summit</p>
<p>
	Minister Khatiwada delivered the welcome remarks and also informed about the programme and areas of investment for development and prosperity in Nepal.</p>
<p>
	The government is reportedly organising this summit to attain its goal of economic prosperity, which it has been championing ever since the formation of a majority government following last year&rsquo;s elections.</p>

	Myanmar&rsquo;s Minister for Investment and Foreign Economy Relation, U Thaung Tun; Vice President of the World Bank, Heart Wig Saphar; Vice President of Asian Development Bank, Shinxin Chen along with other high ranking officials are attending the investment summit scheduled to be inaugurated by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on March 29.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

	March 28: The Supreme Court (SC) has inquired about the security concerns related to the embossed number plates from the government. The apex court raised the issue following complaints that the use of embossed number plates in vehicles leaves the owners vulnerable as the neighbouring countries get the information about the users. The SC issued an order to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers to furnish details regarding the security concerns and technical aspects of the embossed number plates.</p>

	A full bench of Chief Justice Cholendra SJB Rana an justices Deepak Kumar Karki, Kedar Prasad Chalise, Meera Khadka and Hari Krishna Karki issued the order to the government to present the details to the court.</p>

	The order issued by the SC on March 22 was delivered to the concerned government office on Wednesday, March 27.</p>

	The government had introduced the embossed number plates from August 17, 2017 by discarding the old number plates that has been in use since ages. It is mandatory to write the numbers in English is such number plates. The chip used in embossed number plates is believed to weaken the&nbsp; security system of the country by sending vital information to the neighbouring countries.</p>

	Arguing that the government had violated the constitution by removing Nepali alphabets from the number plates, environmental&nbsp; activist Bharat Basnet had filed a writ petition at the SC on February 18, 2018.</p>

In the initial phase, a total of 85 racks of containers carried goods to the dry port. The number now stands at 309 in the first eight months of the current fiscal year. A rack of railway reportedly consists of at least 90 containers</p>

	Data provided by the Himalayan Terminal Private Limited, which operates the dry port, shows that the 309 racks dropped 31,118 containers this year. In the last fiscal year, a total of 41,688 containers were brought to Birgunj, according to senior official at the dry port Animesh Kumar. &nbsp;</p>
<p>
	In FY 2004/2005 when the dry port came into operation, a total of 5,651 containers were dropped at the port.</p>
<p>
	Although the number of goods being imported from India and third countries have increased, the infrastructure of the dry port has not been expanded. The dry port is still operating in the same infrastructure built 14 years ago, stated Gopal Kedia, chairman of Birgunj Chambers of Commerce.</p>
<p>
	Importers have demanded proper management and upgrading of infrastructure arguing that the import has increased significantly.</p>
<p>
	&ldquo;The dry port is getting congested. The plan to expand the dry port has not gained pace,&rdquo; said Kedia.</p>
<p>
	The government&rsquo;s initiative to acquire 62 bigha of land between the dry port and the Integrated Check Post (ICP) in Birgunj is embroiled in a row over compensation for the land owners.</p>

	China National Aerotechnology International has been assigned the task of upgrading the runway. According to sources at TIA, the airport will remain closed from 10 pm till 8 am every day.</p>
<p>
	Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) signed an agreement to this effect with the Chinese company on October 12. The upgrading of the runway is estimated to cost Rs 3.75 billion.</p>
<p>
	Director General of TIA Sanjeev&nbsp; Gautam said that the airport will not face any problem for the next 25 to 30 years once the runway gets upgraded.</p>
<p>
	According to him, the Chinese company will &lsquo;rehabilitate&rsquo; 80 meters of the runway every day.</p>
<p>
	The runway overlay was done four times before but this is the first time that it is being fully upgraded.</p>
<p>
	Airport authorities said they decided to overhaul the runway after recurring problems of blacktopping coming off the runway.</p>

	Resorts and lodges from Sanghu of Taplejung to Gufa Pokhari of Sankhwasabha district have started gearing up to welcome visitors, who are keen to watch the beauty of nature.</p>

	Domestic tourists from Kathmandu, Pokhara, Dharan, Itahari as well as Indian tourists from Sikkim and Darjeeling visit the place, known as the capital of Rhododendron, says Donga Sherpa, operator of Hotel Yak in Gufa Pokhari.</p>
<p>
	Owner of the nearby Makalu Hotel, Hari Prasad Khanal, says that his family has been tending to the needs of the tourists since generations.</p>
<p>
	According to him, the spring season witnesses massive inflow of tourists, especially to watch the bloom of Rhododendron.</p>
<p>
	Hotel entrepreneurs say that the flower started blossoming late this season. Normally, Rhododendron starts blossoming from mid-March but the locals say that the blooming of flowers might have been delayed due to excessive snowfall this year.</p>

	Chaudhary Group, one of the country&rsquo;s leading business houses, signed agreements for projects including telecom, solar power, and logistics on the occasion. The business conglomerate signed the agreement with Sky Power, Turk Cell and Sarraf Group for 600-megawatt solar plant project, 5G mobile network and multipurpose center.</p>

	Similarly, agreement on Arun III Hydropower Project was signed between Nepali banks and SJVN India</p>
<p>
	Further agreements for investment on Kali Gandaki Gorge Hydropower Project, Upper Trushuli Hydropower Project, Simara SEZ Project, Himalaya Boutique Resort, Green Ware House Construction and API Power (hydro, solar and wind power projects) were also signed during the last day of the two-day summit. &nbsp;</p>

	Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) also pledged for investment in addition to the commitments of IBN Investment Board South Africa, Muthoot Finance and United Finance.</p>
<p>
	Likewise, Myanmar&rsquo;s Contractors&rsquo; Association signed an agreement with the Federation of Contractors&rsquo; Association of Nepal.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
<p>
	The investment board additionally received applications for seventeen projects during the two-day summit.</p>
<p>
	Maha Prasad Adhikari, CEO of Nepal Investment Board said in his concluding remark during the summit that investors submitted proposals for seventeen other projects out of the total 77 projects showcased at the summit.&nbsp; Out of the 17 projects, seven include infrastructure development projects, four energy projects, three agriculture projects, two education and health projects, and one logistics project.&nbsp;</p>

	The deadline for submission of proposals for other projects is April 20. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

	The ambassador highlighted that both Nepal and Bangladesh are going through social, economic and cultural transformation, hence, working together in this process will be fruitful for both the countries.</p>

	He also explained how the bilateral relation has become stagnant and not moved beyond the imagined transformation and stressed on the increasing need towards more bilateral business cooperation.</p>

	Madan Lamsal, editor-in-chief of New Business Magazine stated that &ldquo;media has a very huge role to play as it is the mirror to show the shortcomings and loopholes&rdquo;.</p>

	According to him, Nepal should learn from the success story of Bangladesh and stressed on the need to take India on board as moving forward without a strong trilateral relation including India will &ldquo;lead us nowhere&rdquo;.</p>

	Meanwhile, Madhusudan Adhikari, secretary at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, stressed on the need for building mutual trust for enhancing bilateral transport , transit and trade.</p>

	Dr Golam Rasul, chief economist at ICIMOD, said connectivity is the key to prosperity He added that the trade volume between Nepal and Bangladesh is minimal and effective transportation infrastructure can enhance bilateral trade.</p>

	&ldquo;Inland waterways connectivity between Nepal-India and Bangladesh can be a real booster from trade and commerce point of view,&rdquo; he added.</p>

	According to a statement issued by the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, the two foreign secretaries reviewed all aspects of wide ranging bilateral partnership and exchanged views on regional and other issues of mutual interest.</p>
<p>
	&ldquo;They expressed satisfaction at the substantial progress that has been achieved on bilateral projects and initiatives that were discussed and agreed to during the reciprocal visits of prime ministers of Nepal and India in April and May 2018,&rdquo; the statement added.</p>

Five years on, the region not only continues to maintain its polio-free status but is demonstrating how the polio legacy can effectively strengthen overall immunization and other programs, according to a statement issued by WHO.</p>
<p>
	&ldquo;Member countries, partners and the community themselves continue to work together to keep the crippling virus at bay. The polio program&rsquo;s emphasis on innovation and reaching everyone, everywhere is being replicated by many other public health programs with impressive results,&rdquo; said Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh, regional director of WHO South-East Asia Region.</p>
<p>
	According to WHO, the last case of wild poliovirus in the region was reported from West Bengal, India, where a two-year old girl suffered polio paralysis on January 13, 2011.&nbsp; An intense response by the government of India supported by WHO, UNICEF, Rotary International and other partners ensured it remained the last case in WHO South-East Asia Region.&nbsp;</p>
<p>
	WHO claimed that every year more than 32 million children across the region are being reached with oral polio vaccines under routine immunization and through mass polio vaccination campaigns to maintain high population immunity against polio. In India, an additional 460 million doses of oral polio vaccines were given to children through four mass polio vaccination campaigns conducted in 2018.</p>
<p>
	&ldquo;As a part of the vigilance for polio in the region, surveillance for polio continues to be further strengthened. More than 75 000 stool samples were tested in 16 poliovirus laboratories in the Region in 2018. Environmental surveillance for poliovirus detection has been expanded three-fold in the last five years. Samples are now collected for testing from 74 sites in India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar and Thailand. In 2014, environment surveillance was conducted only in India, from 23 sites,&rdquo; the statement added.</p>
<p>
	The statement further said that polio programme and its lessons are guiding efforts to eliminate measles and control rubella, a flagship priority programme in WHO South-East Asia Region.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

	PM Oli said that the government has formulated laws that ensure security of the investment, hence he urged the visiting delegates to have no doubts regarding their investment.</p>

The apex court raised the issue following complaints that the use of embossed number plates in vehicles leaves the owners vulnerable as the neighbouring countries get the information about the users. The SC issued an order to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers to furnish details regarding the security concerns and technical aspects of the embossed number plates.</p>

	The order issued by the SC on March 22 was delivered to the concerned government office on Wednesday, March 27.</p>

	The government had introduced the embossed number plates from August 17, 2017 by discarding the old number plates that has been in use since ages. It is mandatory to write the numbers in English is such number plates. The chip used in embossed number plates is believed to weaken the&nbsp; security system of the country by sending vital information to the neighbouring countries.</p>

In the initial phase, a total of 85 racks of containers carried goods to the dry port. The number now stands at 309 in the first eight months of the current fiscal year. A rack of railway reportedly consists of at least 90 containers</p>

	Data provided by the Himalayan Terminal Private Limited, which operates the dry port, shows that the 309 racks dropped 31,118 containers this year. In the last fiscal year, a total of 41,688 containers were brought to Birgunj, according to senior official at the dry port Animesh Kumar. &nbsp;</p>
<p>
	In FY 2004/2005 when the dry port came into operation, a total of 5,651 containers were dropped at the port.</p>
<p>
	Although the number of goods being imported from India and third countries have increased, the infrastructure of the dry port has not been expanded. The dry port is still operating in the same infrastructure built 14 years ago, stated Gopal Kedia, chairman of Birgunj Chambers of Commerce.</p>
<p>
	Importers have demanded proper management and upgrading of infrastructure arguing that the import has increased significantly.</p>
<p>
	&ldquo;The dry port is getting congested. The plan to expand the dry port has not gained pace,&rdquo; said Kedia.</p>
<p>
	The government&rsquo;s initiative to acquire 62 bigha of land between the dry port and the Integrated Check Post (ICP) in Birgunj is embroiled in a row over compensation for the land owners.</p>

	China National Aerotechnology International has been assigned the task of upgrading the runway. According to sources at TIA, the airport will remain closed from 10 pm till 8 am every day.</p>
<p>
	Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) signed an agreement to this effect with the Chinese company on October 12. The upgrading of the runway is estimated to cost Rs 3.75 billion.</p>
<p>
	Director General of TIA Sanjeev&nbsp; Gautam said that the airport will not face any problem for the next 25 to 30 years once the runway gets upgraded.</p>
<p>
	According to him, the Chinese company will &lsquo;rehabilitate&rsquo; 80 meters of the runway every day.</p>
<p>
	The runway overlay was done four times before but this is the first time that it is being fully upgraded.</p>
<p>
	Airport authorities said they decided to overhaul the runway after recurring problems of blacktopping coming off the runway.</p>

	Hotel entrepreneurs say that the flower started blossoming late this season. Normally, Rhododendron starts blossoming from mid-March but the locals say that the blooming of flowers might have been delayed due to excessive snowfall this year.</p>

	Chaudhary Group, one of the country&rsquo;s leading business houses, signed agreements for projects including telecom, solar power, and logistics on the occasion. The business conglomerate signed the agreement with Sky Power, Turk Cell and Sarraf Group for 600-megawatt solar plant project, 5G mobile network and multipurpose center.</p>

	Similarly, agreement on Arun III Hydropower Project was signed between Nepali banks and SJVN India</p>

	Further agreements for investment on Kali Gandaki Gorge Hydropower Project, Upper Trushuli Hydropower Project, Simara SEZ Project, Himalaya Boutique Resort, Green Ware House Construction and API Power (hydro, solar and wind power projects) were also signed during the last day of the two-day summit. &nbsp;</p>

	Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) also pledged for investment in addition to the commitments of IBN Investment Board South Africa, Muthoot Finance and United Finance.</p>

	Likewise, Myanmar&rsquo;s Contractors&rsquo; Association signed an agreement with the Federation of Contractors&rsquo; Association of Nepal.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

	The investment board additionally received applications for seventeen projects during the two-day summit.</p>
<p>
	Maha Prasad Adhikari, CEO of Nepal Investment Board said in his concluding remark during the summit that investors submitted proposals for seventeen other projects out of the total 77 projects showcased at the summit.&nbsp; Out of the 17 projects, seven include infrastructure development projects, four energy projects, three agriculture projects, two education and health projects, and one logistics project.&nbsp;</p>

	The deadline for submission of proposals for other projects is April 20. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

	He also explained how the bilateral relation has become stagnant and not moved beyond the imagined transformation and stressed on the increasing need towards more bilateral business cooperation.</p>

	Madan Lamsal, editor-in-chief of New Business Magazine stated that &ldquo;media has a very huge role to play as it is the mirror to show the shortcomings and loopholes&rdquo;.</p>

	According to him, Nepal should learn from the success story of Bangladesh and stressed on the need to take India on board as moving forward without a strong trilateral relation including India will &ldquo;lead us nowhere&rdquo;.</p>

	Meanwhile, Madhusudan Adhikari, secretary at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, stressed on the need for building mutual trust for enhancing bilateral transport , transit and trade.</p>
<p>
	Dr Golam Rasul, chief economist at ICIMOD, said connectivity is the key to prosperity He added that the trade volume between Nepal and Bangladesh is minimal and effective transportation infrastructure can enhance bilateral trade.</p>
<p>
	&ldquo;Inland waterways connectivity between Nepal-India and Bangladesh can be a real booster from trade and commerce point of view,&rdquo; he added.</p>

Gokhale, who arrived in Nepal on Thursday, met his Nepali counterpart Shanker Das Bairagi, the same day. He called on Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli and Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali.</p>

	According to a statement issued by the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, the two foreign secretaries reviewed all aspects of wide ranging bilateral partnership and exchanged views on regional and other issues of mutual interest.</p>
<p>
	&ldquo;They expressed satisfaction at the substantial progress that has been achieved on bilateral projects and initiatives that were discussed and agreed to during the reciprocal visits of prime ministers of Nepal and India in April and May 2018,&rdquo; the statement added.</p>

	The Indian Embassy further said that the two foreign secretaries agreed to maintain the momentum in bilateral engagement across diverse sectors of cooperation and to further strengthen the traditionally close, friendly and multifaceted partnership between Nepal and India.</p>

Five years on, the region not only continues to maintain its polio-free status but is demonstrating how the polio legacy can effectively strengthen overall immunization and other programs, according to a statement issued by WHO.</p>
<p>
	&ldquo;Member countries, partners and the community themselves continue to work together to keep the crippling virus at bay. The polio program&rsquo;s emphasis on innovation and reaching everyone, everywhere is being replicated by many other public health programs with impressive results,&rdquo; said Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh, regional director of WHO South-East Asia Region.</p>
<p>
	According to WHO, the last case of wild poliovirus in the region was reported from West Bengal, India, where a two-year old girl suffered polio paralysis on January 13, 2011.&nbsp; An intense response by the government of India supported by WHO, UNICEF, Rotary International and other partners ensured it remained the last case in WHO South-East Asia Region.&nbsp;</p>
<p>
	WHO claimed that every year more than 32 million children across the region are being reached with oral polio vaccines under routine immunization and through mass polio vaccination campaigns to maintain high population immunity against polio. In India, an additional 460 million doses of oral polio vaccines were given to children through four mass polio vaccination campaigns conducted in 2018.</p>
<p>
	&ldquo;As a part of the vigilance for polio in the region, surveillance for polio continues to be further strengthened. More than 75 000 stool samples were tested in 16 poliovirus laboratories in the Region in 2018. Environmental surveillance for poliovirus detection has been expanded three-fold in the last five years. Samples are now collected for testing from 74 sites in India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar and Thailand. In 2014, environment surveillance was conducted only in India, from 23 sites,&rdquo; the statement added.</p>

	The statement further said that polio programme and its lessons are guiding efforts to eliminate measles and control rubella, a flagship priority programme in WHO South-East Asia Region.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

	Myanmar&rsquo;s Minister for Investment and Foreign Economy Relation, U Thaung Tun; Vice President of the World Bank, Heart Wig Saphar; Vice President of Asian Development Bank, Shinxin Chen along with other high ranking officials are attending the investment summit scheduled to be inaugurated by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on March 29.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

The apex court raised the issue following complaints that the use of embossed number plates in vehicles leaves the owners vulnerable as the neighbouring countries get the information about the users. The SC issued an order to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers to furnish details regarding the security concerns and technical aspects of the embossed number plates.</p>

	A full bench of Chief Justice Cholendra SJB Rana an justices Deepak Kumar Karki, Kedar Prasad Chalise, Meera Khadka and Hari Krishna Karki issued the order to the government to present the details to the court.</p>

	The order issued by the SC on March 22 was delivered to the concerned government office on Wednesday, March 27.</p>
<p>
	The government had introduced the embossed number plates from August 17, 2017 by discarding the old number plates that has been in use since ages. It is mandatory to write the numbers in English is such number plates. The chip used in embossed number plates is believed to weaken the&nbsp; security system of the country by sending vital information to the neighbouring countries.</p>
<p>
	Arguing that the government had violated the constitution by removing Nepali alphabets from the number plates, environmental&nbsp; activist Bharat Basnet had filed a writ petition at the SC on February 18, 2018.</p>

In the initial phase, a total of 85 racks of containers carried goods to the dry port. The number now stands at 309 in the first eight months of the current fiscal year. A rack of railway reportedly consists of at least 90 containers</p>
<p>
	Data provided by the Himalayan Terminal Private Limited, which operates the dry port, shows that the 309 racks dropped 31,118 containers this year. In the last fiscal year, a total of 41,688 containers were brought to Birgunj, according to senior official at the dry port Animesh Kumar. &nbsp;</p>
<p>
	In FY 2004/2005 when the dry port came into operation, a total of 5,651 containers were dropped at the port.</p>
<p>
	Although the number of goods being imported from India and third countries have increased, the infrastructure of the dry port has not been expanded. The dry port is still operating in the same infrastructure built 14 years ago, stated Gopal Kedia, chairman of Birgunj Chambers of Commerce.</p>
<p>
	Importers have demanded proper management and upgrading of infrastructure arguing that the import has increased significantly.</p>
<p>
	&ldquo;The dry port is getting congested. The plan to expand the dry port has not gained pace,&rdquo; said Kedia.</p>
<p>
	The government&rsquo;s initiative to acquire 62 bigha of land between the dry port and the Integrated Check Post (ICP) in Birgunj is embroiled in a row over compensation for the land owners.</p>
