Jatinder Pal Singh Tiwana, Regional Manager of Ingersoll Rand, was recently in Nepal. Singh spoke to Angila Sharma of New Business Age about Ingersoll’s products and its future endeavors in Nepal. What is your assessment of the Nepal air compressor market?

It is a good market for air compressors. Industries have grown over the years in Nepal. Similarly, the market potential is also going up.People are now going towards energy conservation in compressed air system because of the high power tariff. This awareness was 

not present some two to three years ago in Nepal.

 

Could you please tell us something about Ingersoll Rand?

Ingersoll Rand has started operations in 1871 from USA. INGERSOLL-RAND India Ltd is a majority held subsidiary of Ingersoll-Rand Company in the USA. Ingersoll-Rand has been in the Compressor business for more than a century and is recognized as a world leader in the supply of Compressed Air Technology. In India, Ingersoll-Rand has been the backbone of Indian industries supplying different types of compressors since 1921. We have state of the art manufacturing plant at Naroda in Ahmedabad.  For Nepal operations, we are serving from India with our authorized distributor M.A.W based at Kathmandu. It has been more than 15 years that we have been doing business in Nepal through our authorized distributor M.A.W.

 

What do you see as the key trends of air compressor markets in Nepal?

The market trend has been changing YOY. Earlier, people used to purchase air compressors that required low initial investment. Now, people are aware about energy conservation and how compressor can benefit them in a long run.They are ready to invest more if our product can deliver good performance with low energy consumption. It is especially because the cost of electricity is too high in Nepal.

 

Could you tell us in brief about your product ranges?

Ingersoll Rand is the only manufacturer which supplies all technologies of air compressors and thus becomes the single source who can offer total solution to the compressed air requirements. We have wide range of screw, reciprocating & centrifugal air compressors to cater oil free and lubricated air needs. In addition to that we are serving in vacuum pumps, blowers, including all accessories like air dryers, line filters, air receiversand all other systems that enhance the energy efficiency, productivity and operations of the system.

 

Can you please tell us about your new products?

We have recently launched R- series. t is a new innovation with incredible design in screw air compressors. It is having low operating cost and maintenance cost. Similarly, it is user friendly &easy to maintain as well. Overall, it is a beautiful machine.  

 

It also has unique features like- Progressive Adaptive Control, V-Shield Technology and Sequential cooling system. In addition to that, we have special feature of modulation control available in screw and centrifugal air compressors which results in 

power saving.

 

 We have also launched new generation of air dryers. These dryers are very much efficient and very much price effective. We are also coming up with new products very soon.

 

What are the unique features of your products?

Our products are energy efficient with low maintenance and operating cost which make them more durable than other products. We provide quality products which can give payback in six months as compared to other brands.

 

Can you please share with us the current market share of your products in Nepal?

We are having more than 50 per cent market share in the premium segment in Nepal and it is growing very well. This year we have set stiff target for the Nepali market and I am very much sure that we will achieve the target with the help of our authorized distributor.

 

Last year, we did quite well. We achieved 25% growth over 2012 in 2013. It is because customers are opting for good products. Overall, Ingersoll has grown because of customer’s preference.

 

Do you think Nepal is still a virgin market for air compressor products?

No, not at all. There are many players in the market. Competition is tough but, we are doing well because we stand different in respect to other competitors in terms of quality, maintenance and energy saving.
