Min Bahadur Gurung, chairperson of Bhatbhateni Super Market, has pledged Rs 410 million in support of the construction of the Kathmandu Institute of Child Health in Kathmandu. Following a visit to the hospital's construction site in Budhanilkantha, Gurung announced his commitment to assist the project. Led by Dr. Bhagawan Koirala, the Kathmandu Institute of Child Health Hospital aims to open specialty child health facilities in all seven provinces. This, however, marks just one of Gurung's many philanthropic efforts. He has previously financed the construction of two buildings for the TU Teaching Hospital. In 2011, an emergency building was erected in honour of his parents, Brish Bahadur Gurung and Dhan Maya Gurung, at a cost of Rs 110 million. Following the 2015 earthquakes, Gurung funded the construction of another building at the same location - the Emergency Health Services (EHS) building - for Rs 150 million. Additionally, Gurung has sponsored the education of 14 individuals pursuing MBBS degrees from remote districts including Rolpa, Khotang, Mugu, Dolpa, Baitadi, Darchula, Sankhuwasabha, Taplejung, Panchthar and Kalikot. On the business side also, Gurung is on the roll. The retail tycoon has joined forces with education entrepreneur Umesh Shrestha to acquire a 30% ownership in Hotel De L'Annapurna in a Rs 9 billion deal. Gurung and Shrestha are pooling Rs 2.70 billion for the venture. Post-acquisition, their plan includes securing a 42-ropani land lease from the five-star property situated in Durbarmarg to develop Annapurna Square, featuring a premium shopping mall, hotel and parking infrastructure.
