Nepal has suffered a trade deficit of Rs 1053.42 billion during the nine months of the current financial year. The latest foreign trade statistics released by the Department of Customs show Nepal imported goods worth Rs 1167.36 billion during this period while exported goods worth Rs 113.94 billion. With both imports and exports declining, the overall trade deficit of the country decreased by 2.75 percent in this fiscal.
The department's data shows Nepal's imports shrunk by 2.84 percent to Rs 1167.36 billion in the first nine months of FY 2023/24. The country's imports during the same period of FY 2022/23 stood at Rs 1201.50 billion. Nepal's exports also declined by 3.66 percent to Rs 113.94 billion during this period. The government has collected revenue of 306.80 billion from imported goods and services in this fiscal.
