The Nepali electric vehicle (EV) market has been witnessing the launch of new EV brands almost every month. In the past two months alone, the Nepali auto market has welcomed three new Chinese EV models - BYD Seal, GAC Aion and Omoda 5.

The first one to hit the Nepali roads was the BYD Seal, a premium sedan from BYD stable. In February, the Nepali automobile market saw the entry of two additional Chinese EV models: GAC Aion Y and the Omoda 5 EV.

Cimex Nepal, the authorised distributor of BYD electric vehicles in Nepal, has expanded its EV portfolio by introducing the BYD Seal. BYD currently leads the EV segment in the Nepali market. The Atto 3 and Dolphin, introduced in 2023, have received favourable feedback, and with the launch of the BYD Seal the company is elevating its presence in the premium segment.

BYD Seal

Inspired by the Ocean X concept unveiled in 2021, the Seal boasts an aerodynamic body design with an impressive drag coefficient of just 0.21 cd. Its exterior highlights include crystal LED headlamps adorned with boomerang-shaped LED DRLs, complemented by full-width LED taillights spanning the entirety of the boot-lid.

The Seal’s interior maintains the stylish design established by its exterior. It features integrated sports seats, a large rotating display, a panoramic sunroof, and a range of other amenities. The BYD Seal offers a choice of Ice Blue, Atlantis Grey, Polar White and Space Black colour options. BYD Seal comes with an 8-year (or 160,000 km) warranty on the battery and the vehicle. The car is available in three versions (Dynamic, Premium, and Performance) and four standard colours. The BYD Seal price in Nepal is Rs 10.5 million for the Dynamic variant, Rs 13.9 million for the Premium variant, and Rs 18.5 million for the Performance variant.

GAC Aion

CG Motors has launched a new EV brand - GAC Aion - in the Nepali market. Known for its trendy design, spacious cabin, and class-leading EV technology, the GAC Aion Y is a compact SUV. Priced at Rs 5.49 million in the Nepali market, GAC Aion Y is available in a single configuration across seven interesting colour options. The GAC Aion Y comes with an 8-year or 400,000 km warranty (whichever is earlier).

The GAC Aion Y sports a trendy and youthful design. The front section sports an LED Headlamp with Angle Wing DRLs. The bonnet and bumper profiles get a smoother surface with a few sculpted lines. The 17-inch aluminium alloy rims and contrasting fenders side skirts help give Aion Y a unique look. Moving to the inside, the interior looks and feels premium. There are soft materials on the dashboard and door panels with metal AV outlets. Moreover, ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, 14.6-inch infotainment system and 10.25-inch instrument cluster give the vehicle a minimalistic and futuristic feel.

Omoda 5 EV

SPG Automobiles, the authorised distributor of Chery vehicles in Nepal, has recently introduced its first-ever electric offering - Omoda 5 EV. This new model from Chery’s sub-brand Omoda will compete with the MG ZS, Hyundai Kona Electric, BYD Atto 3 and the Nissan Leaf in the Nepali market. The Omoda 5 EV is based on the ICE version of the Omoda 5. However, it has gone through significant changes in its electric avatar. It is an art in motion, especially with its futuristic silhouette. The front portion carries T-shaped LED DRLs with Dynamic Turn Indicators. It possesses a separate LED Headlamp for bright visibility. The Omoda 5 is powered by a 99kW electric motor.

The car supports both AC and DC charging. Interestingly enough, the DC charging can charge the SUV up to 80% in just 35 minutes. Whereas, it can fully charge in 7 to 8.5 hours via the 11kW AC Charger. Moreover, it does 30-80% in just four hours. Talking about the price, the Omoda 5 EV is available at Rs 5.94 million. The Omoda EV 5 comes with a standard 8-Year Warranty on both Battery and Motor.
