Dr. Biswo Nath Poudel has joined Kathmandu University as a Professor. Former Vice Chairperson of National Planning Commission Dr. Poudel, who holds a PhD in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of California at Berkeley, had also served as an economic adviser to various national and international institutions including the International Labor Organization. Most recently he was serving as an Advisor to the Minister of Finance. 

CA Niraj Subedi has been appointed as the CEO of Himalayan Distillery Ltd. Subedi had been working in Jawalakhel Group of Industries Pvt. Ltd. as Chief Finance Officer for last seven years now. 

Ashok Khadka has been reappointed as the CEO of Neco Insurance for another four-year term. 

Raj Kishor Shakya has been appointed as the CEO of Space 4K Television. Earlier, Shakya was Head-Operations and HR of New Business Age Pvt. Ltd. 

Santosh Devkota has been appointed as the Operation Director of Space 4K Television. Earlier, he was CEO of Nepali Patro, a subsidiary company of the WorldLink group. 

Puspa Sharma has been appointed as the CEO of Kumari Capital Ltd. Earlier, he was Acting CEO in the company. 

Parag Bista has been appointed as the CEO of Machhapuchhre Capital Ltd. Earlier, he was CEO of Global IME Capital Ltd. Bista has undergone Executive Programme in Business Management (EPBM) from IIM Calcutta and holds an M.Com from Delhi University. He has been involved in the investing banking industry of Nepal and India for more than 19 years. 

Umesh Joshi of Standard Chartered Bank Nepal Limited has been transferred as General Manager-Business Banking from General Manager-Affluent & Wealth Management. 

Anil Shrestha has been appointed as the CEO of Progressive Finance Ltd. Earlier, he was the CEO of Reliable Finance Ltd. 

Ramesh Kumar Bhattarai has been appointed as the CEO of Prabhu Mahalaxmi Life Insurance Limited after the merger between Prabhu Life Insurance and Mahalaxmi Life Insurance. Bhattarai, who holds Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Law degrees, had been serving as the CEO of Mahalaxmi Life Insurance from the beginning. 

Basant Raj Lamsal has been appointed as the CEO of Vijaya Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd, formed after the merger between Naya Sarathi Laghubitta and Vijaya Laghubitta, for a four-year term. Similarly, Saroj Ghimire has been appointed as the Senior Deputy CEO and Company Secretary of the microfinance institution. The joint operation of the merged entity started from July 16. 

ELECTED IN PUBLIC LIMITED COMPANIES 

Raman Nepal has been elected as Chairman and of Laxmi Sunrise Bank Ltd which was formed after the merger between Laxmi Bank Ltd and Sunrise Bank Ltd. While Bidya Adhikary Basnyat has been appointed as the Independent Director, Ajaya Shah has been appointed as the CEO, Sumed Bhattarai as the Senior Deputy CEO and Piyush Raj Aryal as Company Secretary. 

Suresh Prasad Khatri has been elected unopposed as the Director of Citizen Investment Trust (Nagarik Lagani Kosh) for coming three years. He represents National Life Insurance Company where he is the CEO. 

Shikshya Bhattachan has been elected Chairperson of Prabhu Mahalaxmi Life Insurance Ltd formed after the merger of Prabhu Life Insurance and Mahalaxmi Life Insurance. Similarly, Sushan Sherchan, Suresh Sapkota and Umesh Lal Shrestha have been elected Directors from the promoters group, while Shankar Gautam and Jyoti Sherchan are elected to the Board from the public shareholders’ group. 

Kush Prasad Mally, Sur Krishna Vaidhya and Bishnu Man Joshi have been elected to the Board of Directors of Reliance Finance Ltd. from the promoter shareholders’ group. Similarly, Tulsi Prasad Baral, Upendra Bahadur Karki and Shweta Kakshyapati have been elected to the Board from the public shareholders’ group. The newly formed Board has elected Kush Prasad Mally as the Chairperson. 

ELECTED IN THE ASSOCIATIONS 

Sujan Kumar Kaphle has been elected unopposed as the President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal (ICAN). He was vice president of the ICAN previously. Similarly, Pravin Kumar Jha has been elected as the Vice President. Both have been elected for yearlong terms. 

Rajesh Dhakhwa has been elected as the President of the newly-opened Fashion Designer Center Nepal. Similarly, Sarita Tuladhar has been elected as the Vice President, Mukta Shrestha as General Secretary, Ramila Nemkul as Secretary and Anu Sherstha as Treasurer. Similarly, Mishu Shrestha, Sushma Singh, Manish Rai and Bini Bajracharya are the members in the new executive committee. 

Prarthana Sakha has been elected as the President of the Kathmandu chapter of Nepal Youth Entrepreneurs Forum (NYEF) under the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI). Similarly, Abhimanyu Golchha has been elected as the First Vice President, Appa Sherpa as Second Vice President, and Anubhav Shrestha, Kshitij Tamang, Ichchha Malla, Nirdesh Dwa, Nishit Mittal, Rasana Shrestha, Sandip Sharma, Suraksha Adhikari and Santosh Pandey have been elected as executive members. 

Sheshraj Bhattarai has been elected as the President of the Education Consultancies Association of Nepal (ECAN). 

Sahara Joshi has been elected as the President of Nepal Youth Entrepreneurs Forum (NYEF). Similarly, Kushal Sundar Shrestha has been elected as First Vice President, Nivita Pradhan as Second Vice President and Reecha Shrestha as Vice President (Women), and Bilasha Shrestha, Sudip Ghimire, Krishna Sapkota, Pabitra Bahadur Gautam, Abhushan Jyoti Kansakar and Yunesh Raj Shrestha have been elected as executive members. Outgoing President Ritesh Lamichhane is in the executive committee as Ex-Officio Member. 

Gopal Agrawal has been elected as the Vice President of Nepal National Marwari Youth Organization. Similarly, Jaya Sharma and Mohit Lalwani have been nominated as executive members. 

Pushpa Das Shrestha has been elected unopposed as the President of Nepal Shooting Association. Shrestha is also the Senior Vice President of Nepal-Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industries. 

Chiranjibi Adhikari, General Secretary, CAN Federation, has been nominated as an expert in the Office of the Copyright Registrar. 

Prof. Dr. Manoj Humagain has been appointed as Dean of Kathmandu University School of Medical Science (KUSMS). 

GOVERNMENT MOVEMENTS 

Dr Jagat Kumar Shrestha has been appointed as the CEO of Budhigandaki Hydropower Company Ltd. Earlier, he was Coordinator Environment, Compensation Distribution, Resettlement & Rehabilitation Unit of Budhigandaki Hydropower Project. 

Shekhar Baral and Dinuka Pokhrel have been elected unopposed as the Board Director of Nepal Reinsurance Company Ltd (NRCL). Baral represents Rastriya Beema Company and Pokharel represents Suryajyoti Life Insurance Company in the NRCL Board. 

Dilli Ram Bhattarai has been nominated to the Board of Directors of Rastriya Samachar Samiti. 

Dr Amar Prasad Yadav has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Rajarshi Janak University. 

Ghanashyam Upadhyay has been promoted to the Secretary of the Government of Nepal. He was previously serving as the Chief District Officer of Kathmandu. 

Padma Jyoti has been appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Madan Bhandari Science and Technology University. Bhanu Prasad Acharya, Lochan Gyawali, Dr Sanduk Ruit and Pushkar Bajracharya, among others, are members of the 15-member board. 

Dhruba Raj Bhattarai has been appointed as the Executive Director of Nepal Agriculture Research Council (NARC). 

Navaraj Adhikari has been appointed as Board Director of Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) for a five-year term. 

Laxmi Basnet has been promoted from Joint Secretary to Secretary of the Government of Nepal on the basis of seniority. 

Lok Bahadur Thapa has been recommended for Ambassador to Nepal’s Permanent Mission in New York. A joint secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he previously served as Nepal’s ambassador to Belgium. 

Ministry of finance has stripped Arun Pokharel off the responsibility of Tribhuvan International Airport Customs Chief in connection with the investigation ongoing on the incidence of nearly one quintal of gold smuggled out. Pokharel is replaced by Joint Secretary Tokaraj Pandey who was earlier transferred to Ministry of Finance from Rastriya Kitabkhana. 

Senior Cardiologist Dr. Anil Bhattarai has been appointed Chief of Cardiothoracic Vascular Surgery (CTVS) Department of TU Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Centre. 

Corrigendum 

Bhupal Baral has been appointed a Member of the Board of Nepal Insurance Authority, not as the Chairman which was inadvertently printed in this section of July 2023 issue. The mistake is highly regretted and we apolosise for the inconvenience caused by that.
