Nepal’s import of base metal and articles thereof shows the booming construction industry which has grown by an average annual rate of 14.8 percent in the past 10 years. And, the rapid growth in activities related to housing and infrastructure development is expected to further boost the import of metal commodities in the coming days.
In 2019, the global import of metals stood at USD 1.1 trillion. The composition of import was 63 percent iron and steel, 28 percent copper and 16 percent aluminum. Considering this global scenario, Nepal need to take necessary steps in import management of such articles.
