Nepali students often dream of studying abroad to achieve academic excellence by receiving international degrees. But a business college based in Kathmandu is trying to educate potential business leaders right here, by showing that Nepal, too, is a place worth exploring with no dearth of opportunities for the young, eager and ambitious. Mindful of this task, Presidential Business School (PBS), a pioneer in business studies affiliated to Westcliff University, USA, is adding different specialisations like Organizational Management and Entrepreneurship to its MBA course from August this year.

According to the college, the new additions will make its MBA course more comprehensive, with a focus on start-ups to market level businesses, to developing & executing innovative and sustainable business plans, to producing professionals and managers for the corporate world. “Organisational management, which is a mix of human resources management and organisational operations and administration, prepares students to manage human resources and at the same time helps develop and formulate strategies in organisations,” says Presidential Business School’s Executive Director, Laxman KC.

“The course concept is new in Nepal. The programme aims to impart an understanding about the behaviour, form and performance of organisations,” informs KC, adding, “It will provide students with a fundamental knowledge of a wide range of business management issues and techniques plus a specialised knowledge in many functional areas.”

Besides providing case-based studies to impart students with practical knowledge and analytical skills, the college also focuses on grooming students by providing various personality development and inter-personal skills training sessions, according to KC. He informs that a BBA student at the college can expect to analyse a minimum of 300 plus case studies and the student will give more than 100 presentations, including group presentations, throughout his/her four-year academic career. The college also organises practical field visits and arranges guest classes from managers, leaders and resource persons from the corporate world and academic sector (both national and international) on a regular basis.

PBS has also been providing job placement cell facilities to its students. “We have a 96 percent placement rate of graduate students,” says KC. “Our students are working in reputed organisations, NGOs/INGOs,” he adds.

PBS Advancing Business Studies

--By Krishana Prasain
