The ranking programme is unique and different from others as it is very holitistic. New Business Age’s initiative in this regard is really praise-worthy. Such rankings help us know about our own weaknesses and strengths. Events such as these will definitely help the overall development of the education sector in the days to come.

What are your suggestions for the overall improvement of colleges?

Schools should take the initiative to develop themselves and teach students ways to address the current scenario and challenges. Education must make students capable of handling all of what life may throw at them.

Ace College accepts the award with great gratitude and humility. I am thankful to New Business Age Pvt Ltd for granting this award to our college.

At Ace, we lay a very strong foundation for the all-round development of students. It is not only the intellectual development of the students or the grades that matter. Lastly, we believe that learning is a lifelong process. We want our students to not just focus on academics, but also experience the real world.

How do you assess higher secondary education in Nepal?

There has been a sea change in the field of higher secondary studies in the country in the last 15 years. Colleges, the number of which is growing by the day, have helped enhance the quality of education. Similarly students have more choices.

What is your take on the impact of ranking of colleges?

It is a good initiative. Earlier, the ratings were only based on grades. However, this event was organised with a holistic approach. Such events give good platforms for colleges.

Ace Higher Secondary School

Ace Higher Secondary School, a conscientious learning centre where students rediscover themselves and learn to be thoughtful and responsible managers and leaders, was established in 1999. We are thrilled to be named the best higher secondary school in the western region and fifth best in the country. This award encourages us to dedicate ourselves to providing quality education to our students.

What are three strongest points of your college?

We have a very different and strong management system. It is one of the strongest points of our college. Secondly, we have professional and dedicated teachers. Thirdly, we have good infrastructure. We have a well-stocked and spacious library with more than 22,000 books. We encourage our students to spend time in the library.

What impact will ranking events like this have on the education sector?

This initiative is praise-worthy as various parameters were for the first time used to determine the rankings. We appreciate this. However, there is always room for improvements in the future. For example, the members of the jury could visit each of the colleges.

What are your suggestions for other high secondary schools?

Most of the higher secondary schools in the country are run by the private sector. The schools should not forget that they need to be service-oriented. However, colleges should not be driven by profit. Schools should emphasise more on improving its facilities.

Gandaki H S Boarding School

Gandaki Higher Secondary Boarding School was established in 1966 as a result of the initiation of three groups: United Mission to Nepal, The Shining Hospital and the local community in Pokhara. The school became a co-educational regional school in 1985 with English as the medium of instruction in an agreement between the Nepal government and the United Mission to Nepal.

GBS is a unique school as around 25 per cent students receive some sort of scholarship. The annual scholarship budget of the school is around 10 million rupees. The fund is raised with the generous support from individual donors and agencies such as FELM Finland, BMS UK, PC Ireland and others from the US and Australia. The government provides one million rupees annually through the Ministry of Education.

The school organises extra-curricular activities such as sports, singing, dancing, quiz contest, and elocution competition.

Little Angels CollegeLittle Angels College

Started in 1981, from a small rented house in Jawalakhel with 65 day scholar students, Little Angels as an institution grew by leaps and bounds as it won accolades and delivered on promises. The demand for greater education had never been as large and LA made sure that it met these challenges head on.

In 1995, LA took a rise to build Nepal’s largest private school, spread over 300 ropanis of land, far away from the din of the city in the serene environment of Hattiban. With large modern buildings housing state-of-the-art classrooms and well-equipped laboratories and computer services and facilities for extra-curricular activities, the size of the school finally matched its ambition to succeed and produce the best professionals in various fields.

Combined with these amenities are the trademark personal touch of the experienced faculty and the creativity incorporated into the teaching. The results of this hard work are apparent in the quality of students the school produces each year.

Little Angels College offers students dynamic Science and Commerce programs designed to follow the Government of Nepal’s Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB) curriculum. The teaching staff supplements class lectures with tutorials, laboratory work, project work and fieldwork for both Science and Commerce stream students. The college also makes sure that the faculty is attuned to the needs of each of its students. Communication between the staff and the student body is encouraged so that unique needs are addressed properly and on time.

The college also offers Advanced Level General Certificate of Education, known as the A level degree. It is an international curriculum that offers students a wide range of subjects to choose from to pursue different interests. Recognised worldwide, the course puts Nepali students on an equal footing with international students and allows them a shot at the same opportunities enjoyed elsewhere.
