Micromax has introduced three new mobile devices – Micromax Bolt A069 mobile phone, Micromax Canvas Tab P470 tablet and Micromax X090 mobile phone in the market. The Micromax Bolt A069 runs on Android 4.4.2 Kitkat and is powered by a 1.3GHz dual core processor. The phone has a 5 inch display, and is equipped with 512 MB RAM and 4 GB ROM. The handset’s imaging devices include a 5 MP primary camera and a 0.3 MP front camera.  Bolt A069 supports 2G connectivity along with Bluetooth, Wi-fi and USB, and has a 1800mAh battery. The phone uniquely has 21 in-built languages for messaging.  

 

Similarly, Micromax Canvas Tab P470 comes with a 7-inch screen (1024X600 pixels) supported by 1.3GHz dual core processor. The tablet runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat and comes with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of ROM which can be further expanded to 32 GB. The snappers on the tablet include a 5 MP fixed-focus primary camera and a 0.3MP secondary one. The tablet comes with 3G connectivity, Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth. Tab P470 has a battery of 3200 mAh. 

 

Another product Micromax X090 is a bar-phone that comes with inbuilt music player, video player, call recorder and FM radio.  The handset supports Bluetooth and USB connectivity. The phone has expandable memory of 8 GB and is equipped with a 1800 mAh battery.  

 

All the three devices support dual SIM. Bolt A069 mobile phone, Canvas Tab P470 tablet and X090 are available at Rs 9317, Rs 13015 and Rs 1650 respectively. 

 

Allied Trade Link International Pvt Ltd, the national distributor and marketer of Karbonn Mobiles has introduced seven new mobile phones in the market. Titanium S12 Delite, Titanium S5 Ultra, Karbonn K105s, Elegance 3, Elegance 1, The Legend and K725 are the newly launched modelsTitanium S12 Delite and Titanium S5 Ultra are smart phones while the rest are bar phones. 

 

S12 Delite is powered by a 1.3 GHz quad core processor and has 4 GB ROM and 512 MB RAM. The phone running on Android 4.4 Kitkat has a 4.3 Inches capacitive touchscreen. The bar phones K105s, Elegance 3, Elegance 1, The Legend and K725 have features like audio/video player, FM radio, digital camera and torchlight among others. The phones are priced at Rs 1,479, Rs 2,119, Rs 2,329, Rs 2,609 and Rs 2,819 respectively. 

 

Gionee has launched its new smartphone Gionee P6 in the market. The handset is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM, coupled with 8GB of ROM. The phone supports dual SIM, and comes with a 5 inch LCD display and a 5 MP camera. The phone is equipped with a special Holzer switch with which the phone can be flipped to light up the display, to show weather, date and time, and also transfer files. Flipping can do many other things including taking photographs and listening to surround sound music. 

 

Colors Mobile has introduced an entry-level smartphone X-Factor X35 Zoom in the market. According to the company, Colors X-Factor X35 Zoom is targeted to those users who are eager to make an immediate shift from a slow 2G connection to much faster and better 3G connectivity. The handset is powered by a 1 GHz processor and has 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB ROM. The phone supports dual SIM cards and runs on Android 4.4 Kitkat. The phone comes with 4 inch WVGA careen and is equipped with a 3.2 MP rear camera with flash and a 0.3 MP front camera.  X35 Zoom has an in-built audio/video player and FM, and comes with sensors like G-sensor, light sensor and proximity sensor. All these features are backed up by a 1400-mAh battery. X35 Zoom is available in the market at a price of Rs 6,595. 

 

Two Android One series smartphones have been launched in the Nepali market. The smartphones Spice Dream UNO MI-498 and Karbonn Sparkle V are introduced by Starck Tech Company and Allied Trade Link International respectively. 

 

Starck Tech Company, a business venture under Jyoti Group launched the Spice Dream UNO amid a function held at Jyoti Bhawan, Kantipath on 14th February.  Jointly unveiled by Saurabh Jyoti, Chairman and Srijana Jyoti, Chief Branding Officer of Starck Tech Company, Spice Dream UNO MI-498 is the first Google Android One smartphone launched in Nepal. The dual-SIM 3G handset, powered by a 1.3 GHz quad- core processor and 1GB RAM runs on Android 4.4.4 Kitkat OS. The company informed in a press statement that the phone will soon get the Android Lollipop update. The smartphone with a 4.5 inch IPS display features an expandable storage capacity of 32 GB. It houses a 5 MP Auto Focus rear camera along with a 2 MP front camera. Priced at Rs 11,990, the Dream UNO Mi-498 will be available for online sale only; through its online sales partner ohobazar.com, according to the company. 

 

Allied Trade Link International, meanwhile, launched the Karbonn Sparkle V handset. The dual-SIM phone which carries a price tag of Rs 11,899 in the domestic market is powered by a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor and 1 GB RAM. The 3G smartphone which runs on Android Kitkat 4.4 (Upgradable to v5.0 Lollipop), sports a 4.5 inch FWVGA IPS display and has a 5 MP primary camera and a 2 MP secondary snapper. Karbonn Sparkle V comes with a 1,700 mAh battery and 4 GB internal storage. "Karbonn Sparkle V is especially designed for Android One software for a seamless user experience and efficient battery use," said the company in a press release. 

 

Motorola is updating its low-cost smartphone, the Moto E, as it targets first-time smartphone buyers worldwide. Among the improvements over last year's model: The camera now has auto-focusing, whereas the older model had a fixed-focus lens that didn't compensate for how far away the subject was. The new Moto E will also have a front-facing camera for selfies, though images won't be as sharp as the 5 megapixels on the rear. There's also a model with 4G cellular connectivity. Last year's model was available only for slower, 3G networks.

 

In the US, Motorola will target prepaid customers, as well as those looking to buy children their first smartphones. The 4G model will cost USD 150 in the US, while the 3G will go for USD 120, both without contract requirements. The screen measures 4.5 inches diagonally, slightly larger than before. 

 

Record-breaking speeds have been achieved during tests of 5G data connections, scientists have said. Researchers at the University of Surrey's 5G Innovation Centre (5GIC) managed one terabit per second (Tbps) - many thousands of times faster than current data connections.The head of the 5GIC said he hoped to demonstrate the technology to the public in 2018. Ofcom has said 5G could be available in Britain by 2020.

 

At 1Tbps, it would be theoretically possible to download a file 100 times the size of a feature film in about three seconds. The speed is more than 65,000 times faster than average 4G download speeds. It is also far in excess of the previous best achieved in tests: Samsung's 7.5 gigabits per second (Gbps), which is less than 1 per cent of the Surrey team's speed.

 

Apple has suffered a patent defeat involving some of the technologies it uses in its iTunes store. The company has been ordered to pay USD 533m to Smartflash, a British Virgin Islands-based firm that owns and licenses tech-related patents but does not make products itself. Smartflash had asked for a bigger payout, but said it was "happy" with the verdict.

 

Apple said it intended to appeal and called for patent reform."We refused to pay off this company for the ideas our employees spent years innovating and unfortunately we have been left with no choice but to take this fight up through the court system," the iPhone maker said in a statement. Apple's defeat by Smartflash is the latest in a series of victories by companies referred to as non-practising entities (NPEs), and denounced by their critics as being "patent trolls".
