Canon’s New Cameras

Canon has launched three new cameras in the PowerShot and IXUS range namely PowerShot N, PowerShot A2600 and IXUS 140. Equipped with a range of exciting design and technological advances, these cameras are a boon for users who love to experiment and shoot photos in new and unconventional ways, says the company. Here are some of the features of the new cameras. 

PowerShot N

Canon PowerShot N’s design is smaller, more agile, with new dual shutter buttons at the top and bottom of the zoom-enabled lens ring for even one-handed operations. With a 2.8-inch tilt-up LCD touch panel, the camera is able to capture photos from extreme angles. The PowerShot N comes with new Creative Shot mode that applies six random creative filters to a shot with a click. The camera comes with DIGIC 5 processor, a highly sensitive 12.1 megapixel CMOS sensor, and a new 8x optical zoom lens (28-224mm) for photos up to 16x zoom. 

PowerShot A2600

PowerShot A2600 is an affordable compact camera that comes with a convenient help button that offers quick tips on how and when to use certain features. The optics of the PowerShot A2600 is powered by a 16-megapixel sensor and a DIGIC 4 imaging processor, with Digital IS (DIS) to stabilize shots. The lens is capable of 5x optical zoom (28-140mm). 

IXUS 140

Canon’s IXUS 140 has an 8x optical zoom lens (28-224mm), and is able to extend up to 16x zoom with the new ZoomPlus feature. Superior image quality is provided by a 16-megapixel sensor and the DIGIC 4 image processor, with a fast ISO speed of up to 1600. Users are able to frame their shots comfortably on the 3” LCD screen, whether they’re shooting photos or HD movies.

Yahoo China to End Email Service this Year: Report

Yahoo's China arm will shut down its email service later this year, state media reported Friday, in a move illustrating the brand's diminishing profile in the country. Yahoo China announced it will close its email service by August 19, a move the China Daily said will leave it with just its web portal business in the country. Users of the service were informed that they must register with AliCloud, a unit of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba, to prevent emails and other information from being deleted when Yahoo's mail service stops. Yahoo China has been operated by Alibaba since 2005, the paper said.

The US Internet giant Yahoo! has come under criticism in the past over its business in China, with executives apologising in 2007 for providing evidence that Chinese authorities used to convict government critics. The company said it was legally obliged to divulge information about its users to the Chinese government but that it was unaware it would be used to convict dissidents. The end of the service will affect millions of users, the paper quoted Alibaba public relations official Zhang Jianhua as saying, though he did not have a total figure. 

The China Daily quoted Zhang as saying that the move was because "we are not sure how long we can provide the email service under Yahoo's current technological structure". In September, Alibaba Group Holding Limited announced that it has bought back billions of dollars worth of stock from Yahoo!, by completing an initial repurchase of shares from the US company and other transactions valued at approximately $7.6 billion. LG’s Curved OLED TVs Coming in Second Half of 2013

LG has announced that its ‘world-first’ curved OLED TVs will launch in the second half of this year. The company unveiled its curved displays at the Consumer Electronics Show in January and promised that they deliver wider viewing angles than standard OLED TVs with an improved panoramic experience. The display was showcased with a 55-inch OLED panel that included a paper-thin design, 1080p full HD resolution and 3D support. LG hopes its new curved TVs will help it boost falling TV sales; however the price of OLED technology is still a major hurdle the company must overcome. (AP)

Facebook Unveils 'Home' for Android Phones

The largest social network Facebook unveiled its new software, called "Facebook Home," based on Google's Android operating system. "We are not building a phone. We are not building an operating system," Zuckerberg said. "We are building something that is bigger than an app. We want to shift people's focus on phones away from apps and towards content," he added.”I think this can start to be a change in the relationship we have with these computing devices."

To support the new software, HTC CEO Peter Chou announced a new phone, the HTC First, at the event. It will be the first mobile device to come with the software preloaded. The phone will be supported exclusively on the AT&T LTE network.

Facebook Home will also be available for download on a handful of other Android devices that have Jellybean -- Android's latest operating system -- in about a week, Zuckerberg said. The company will release an updated version of Home once every month. But there was no talk of having Home come to Apple's iPhone yet. Facebook Home is designed to rely heavily on images and "very basic gestures," Zuckerberg said.
