August 13: Bijaya Lama, president of Jyotiko Ghar Nepal, has been honored with the 'Asian Youth Initiative Award, 2018' for his contribution in rehabilitation of orphans and children from different communities.

Jyotiko Ghar Nepal (House of Light Nepal) is working for the care, nurturing and protection of children from Badi, Chepang and other marginalized communities for the past ten years. 
Speaker of the House of Representatives Krishna Bahadur Mahara handed over this award to Lama on the occasion of the Youth Assembly organized by Global Youth Parliament and the Youth Parliament of Nepal in Kathmandu. The assembly has brought together a large number of young participants from Asia to discuss the role of youth in creating awareness about and averting the adverse impacts of climate change.

Speaking at the program, Speaker Mahara expressed his admiration for youth in order to safeguard democracy, promote young leadership and fight the challenges of the current world. He said, “Entrepreneurship is the foundation of economic prosperity and hence the youth should be a change of agent to develop a self-dependent economy.” Young people of different countries were also awarded in the program for their contribution to social work.

Bijaya Lama, who was born in Dorumba Rural Municipality-II, of Ramechap district, has been working in the field of social work for a decade. 
After being honored with the award, Lama said, "There is a lot of responsibility added after the honor, and I dedicate myself to raise the life standard of the poor and homeless children in the society."  
Jyotiko Ghar Nepal has been working for rehabilitation of children from the poor families as well as vulnerable children, earthquake victims, and victims of human trafficking. Currently, Jyotiko Ghar Nepal has been sheltering 450 orphans.
