June 28: The government has started a program to develop around 100 tourism destinations in the new fiscal year.  The government has formulated tourism promotion polices and aims to celebrate 2020 as Visit Nepal Tourism Year by implementing the policies.

Speaking at the parliament on June 26, Tuesday, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari said that the government has decided to promote ten tourism destinations from each of the seven provinces.

Adhikari informed that the reconstruction of earthquake damaged historical sites is gaining pace and home-stay facilities for hospitality is being emphasized to promote cultural tourism.

“We are also aiming to bring maximum tourists from two neighboring nations. Similarly, the operating hours of Tribhuvan International Airport also has been extend to 21 hours, to ease the air traffic of the country’s only international airport,” he added.

Likewise, the government also aims to fully complete the construction of Gautam Buddha International Airport and start its operation within one year. The operation of Pokhara International Airport is to start  in three years. The government is also planning to expedite the construction of Nijgad International Airport in Bara.

Rs 5.2 billion of the total budget has been separated for the promotion and development of tourism in the upcoming fiscal year.

 The government considers all these steps necessary for making Visit Nepal 2020 successful.
