China and Nepal Sign Eight Agreements

June 21: Chinese Investment companies have signed agreements with Nepal for eight projects during Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's visit to China. The Chinese companies have agreed to invest in four hydro power projects of 879-megawatt capacities and a cement factory. 

Likewise, Butwal Power Company and a Chinese company signed an agreement for constructing Manang Marsyangdi Hydro Power Project amid an event at Beijing-based Nepali Embassy on Wednesday. Padma Jyoti, chairman of Butwal Power Company, and a representative of the Chinese investor company signed the ‘framework agreement’ for Manang Marsyangdi Hydro Power Project.

Agreement for the construction of Trishuli Galchi Hydro Power Project between Siddhakali Power and Dong Fang Electric International Cooperation was also signed during the event. Dong Fang is a turbine and generator manufacturing company. Agreement for the engineering, sales, construction and financial management of the project was previously signed between the companies. The project will be initiated from August.  Guru Prasad Neupane, chairman of Siddhakali Power and Chin Chyan, vice chairman of Dong Fang Company signed the agreement.

 Gyanedra Pradhan, chairman of Hydro Solution Company also signed an agreement with a Chinese Investment Company for Kaligandaki Gorge Hydro Power Project. The project is projected to be constructed in Myagdi.

Maha Prasad Adhikari, CEO of Investment Board of Nepal and Su Gang, chairman of Hongshi Cement Factory, China signed an agreement for the establishment of a joint venture company -- Hongshi Shivan Cement Factory -- in Nepal.  According to the agreement, the cement factory will produce 3000 metric tons of cement on a daily basis. Hongshi will invest Rs 14 billion for the cement factory and will employ 1000 individuals in the factory. The companies have already signed agreements for using limestone from Dhading for cement production.  The company informed that the factory will be established within the next six months.
