What are the Government’s Targets for Next Ten Years?

May 23: The government, on Monday (May 21), announced the policies and programs for the Fiscal Year 2018/2019 in the parliament. The policies and programs announced by President Bidya Devi Bhandari state that the government has prioritized industrial sector to make the country self-sufficient and increase export. The government, in the policy and programs, has also presented different targets to achieve in the next ten years. Below are the targets set by the government:

One-year aim

  • To achieve almost double-digit economic growth
  • To operate Gautam Buddha International Airport
  • To complete reconstruction of private houses in quake-hit districts

Three-year aim

  • To operate Pokhara Regional International Airport
  • To construct international standard sports arena
  • Reconstruct Dharahara, Kasthamandap and Ranipokhari

Five-year aim

  • To achieve double-digit economic growth
  • To double current per-capita income
  • To double the agriculture production
  • To supply electricity for 24-hours  to the productive sectors
  • To produce 5,000 MW electricity
  • To complete Kathmandu-Nijgadh fast-track, Mid-hill Highway and Postal Highway
  • To build 15-bed hospital in each local level
  • To implement Prime Minister Employment Generation Program and generate enough employment in Nepal

10-year aim

  • To uplift the status of the country to a middle-income nation
  • To generate 15,000 MW electricity
  • To increase electricity consumption of each citizen from 110 KW per hour to 1500 KW/hr
