During the Investment Summit held a year ago, 22 companies from seven countries including Nepal had signed the LoI worth $13.52 billion.
The IBN and the Ministry of Industry (MoI) had pledged to make investment-friendly environment in the country after the summit. Meanwhile, former Industry Minister Joshi says that the government should show keen interest and take initiatives to bring the intended amount to the country.

Similarly, Bangladeshi investors signed LoI worth $2.4 billion, whereas Japanese and UK investors had signed LoI worth almost $1 billion. Likewise, investors from Sri Lanka and India had shown keen interest to invest $500 million and $317 million, respectively.

Proposed Investment worth $14b limited to intent only
1 min 15 sec to read
April 9: Investors from different countries, who had signed letter of intent (LoI) for investing almost $14 billion in Nepal, have not shown any interest of investing in Nepal. Former Industry Minister Nabindra Raj Joshi had said that the LoI would be converted into commitment within a year.
During the Investment Summit held a year ago, 22 companies from seven countries including Nepal had signed the LoI worth $13.52 billion. They had shown keen interest to invest in the sectors like hydropower, hotels, metro rail, airlines, tunnels, tourism, energy, agriculture, infrastructure, mines and the financial sector, amongst others.
According to the Spokesperson at the Investment Board Nepal (IBN) Uttam Wagle, the government is holding talks with the investors to bring the foreign direct investment (FDI) in the country, but they have shown no sign to invest in Nepal.
The IBN and the Ministry of Industry (MoI) had pledged to make investment-friendly environment in the country after the summit. Meanwhile, former Industry Minister Joshi says that the government should show keen interest and take initiatives to bring the intended amount to the country.
Among the intended amount, China had signed LoI worth $8.3 billion, while domestic investors had also signed LoI worth $11.5 million.
Similarly, Bangladeshi investors signed LoI worth $2.4 billion, whereas Japanese and UK investors had signed LoI worth almost $1 billion. Likewise, investors from Sri Lanka and India had shown keen interest to invest $500 million and $317 million, respectively.
