Yarn producers of Nepal are excite to export their threads to the middle-east nation after the government of Turkey renewed its commitment to give continuity to the duty-free access to the Nepali yarn industries under its General System of Preference (GSP).

Turkey had been providing duty-free access to the Nepali yarn producers in the past considering Nepal as an under-developed country. However, the Turkish government stopped providing the facility to Nepali producers in 2018 under suspicion that they were exporting threads made in third countries.

After Turkey removed the duty-free access, the Ministry of Commerce had conducted investigations to find out whether the yarn exported to Turkey were genuinely made in Nepal or not. Commerce Secretary Chandra Prasad Ghimire informed that the Turkey's commerce ministry had also supported the investigation.

Members of the investigation team had inspected four spinning mills during their field visit.

According to Joint-Secretary at the ministry, Rabi Kisan Sainju, the investigation found that the Nepali producer imported raw materials from abroad but processed the yarn within the country. The final products were then exported to Turkey, added Sainju.

April 8: Nepal is all set to resume export of yarn made of raw thread and polyester fiber to Turkey.
A team of Nepali producers led by Sainju is currently in Turkey to report the findings of the investigation. The team has submitted the details of the investigation to the director general of the Turkish department of import and the Turkish government is reportedly positive about the investigation report.
After receiving the report, the Turkish officials have made a commitment to lift the sanction.

The team has submitted the details of the investigation to the director general of the Turkish department of import and the Turkish government is reportedly positive about the investigation report.

Commerce Secretary Chandra Prasad Ghimire informed that the Turkey's commerce ministry had also supported the investigation.
