New Directives Aim to End Transport Syndicate

  58 sec to read

April 2: In a bid to end the syndicate system in public transportation sector, the government has made it mandatory for ‘registration’ while applying for new route permits or changing the route. The Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has implemented the new system after amending the Transport Management Directives-2060.

Before this, transport associations and committees affiliated to the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs (FNNTE) used to get route permit from the district administration offices. With the implementation of new directives, public transport operators should compulsorily register with the Company Registrar Office.

DoTM Spokesperson Tulsi Ram Aryal informed that they would not provide route permit to any new public transport entrepreneurs until their registration is confirmed.

“The directive was amended to eliminate the problems seen in public transport,” he said. According to Aryal, public transport entrepreneurs will get permission for new route after been registered with the Company Register Office.

The DoTM on April 1 issued a 10-point directive for the overall management of transportation sector.
