March 28: The construction work of fuel pipeline along Motihari-Amlekhgunj-Raxaul corridor, that started a month ago, is currently on track.

“The work commenced on February 27 and so far we have installed two kilometers of pipeline between Pathlaiya and Simara,” said Birendra Goit, spokesperson of Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC).

Likhit Infrastructure Pvt Ltd from Maharastra, India is the contractor for the pipeline installation work.

Similarly, upgrading works of four fuel reserve tanks at Amlekhgunj is also ongoing, which is overseen by Motiprabha Infratech from Gajhiabad, India. The fuel transported from the pipeline will be stored in the upgraded reserve tanks. Two out of the four tanks have the reserve capacity to store 3.9 kiloliters each while the rest of the tanks have the capacity of 4.1 kiloliters and 1.5 kiloliters each.

The estimated cost of the pipeline project is IRs 2.75 billion and is financed by India. But the compensation for the land acquisition falls on Nepal’s part, said a source.

According to NOC, managing the obstruction at Birgunj bypass and chopping off the trees in the areas surrounding Parsa National Park are yet to be commenced while the required pipes for the installation of the 31-km pipeline have already been procured.
