March 25:  The 29th edition of National Industrial Goods and Technology Expo has kicked off at the exhibition hall in Brikutimandap, Kathmandu on Friday, March 23.

The five-day expo from March 23 to 27, was inaugurated by Prime Minister KP Oli. CNI President Hari Bhakta Sharma, NCC President Rajesh Kaji Shrestha, Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Matrika Parasad Yadav and secretary Yam Kumari Khatiwada, Federation of Nepali Handicraft Association President Dharma Raj Shakya among others were present during the inauguration ceremony. The expo aims to promote, develop and expand cottage and small-scale industries of the country.

Minister Yadav focused on prioritizing and utilizing whatever is available and to use modern technologies for industrial development.  He suggested skilled and educated youths not to hesitate to take up minor occupation. He claimed that  the ministry is making plans for economic prosperity and encouraging private investment. “We will not compromise in maintaining good governance,” he claimed.

Prime Minister KP Oli said cottage and small-scale industries is one of the major sectors creating investment and employment opportunities. He ensured that no one will be dying of hunger in the coming days.

Yam Kumari Khatiwada, secretary at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies highlighted the importance of promoting cottage and small-scale industries.  She added that the government is aiming to establish product specific zones by bringing together scattered products and industries.

The expo features 292 stalls of various entrepreneurs from all 77 districts of the nation. The expo which displays national products including food, traditional as well as modern technologies, wood crafts, handicrafts, garments, regional as well as cultural products was observed by a large number of the visitors from the first day, informed the organisers.
