March 6: The Ministry of Health and Nepal Ambulance Service (NAS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for establishing emergency medical system. As per the agreement, NAS will set up state-of-the-art emergency medical system across all hospitals and healthcare institutions in Nepal and the government will bring all ambulances under one single operating number 102, reads a joint statement issued on March 5. NAS said it will manage the call centre in collaboration with the Government of Nepal.

Another important agreement reached between the two sides is to establish emergency medical service training institute in Nepal.

The agreement was signed by Prof Dr Shrikrishna Giri,  chief  of Policy, Planning and International Cooperation Division at the Ministry of Health and Om Rajbhandari, president of Nepal Ambulance Service.

Prof Dr Giri said, "We are happy to have started this association with Nepal Ambulance Service (NAS). NAS has been providing its services in different cities and has provided excellent service. Now, we will bring all ambulances under 102 call centre, which will be managed by NAS."

Rajbhandari, meanwhile, highlighted the importance of the tie-up for the welfare of the Nepali people.

"It is a great honor to have joined hands with the Ministry of Health for a great collaboration. We have agreed to bring all ambulances under operating number 102 and this number will be managed by us in collaboration with the government. We have been working hard from a long time to collaborate with the government. Nepal Ambulance Service has always worked for the goodwill and development of the emergency health service of the nation and by this collaboration, we are positive that our efforts together in the development of healthcare and emergency medical system will be highly productive."
