Unclear Revenue Policy hits Industrialists

1 min 11 sec to read

January 22: Unclear revenue policy has hit many industries operating at different industrial estates of the country. Industrialists have complained that the revenue policy of the country promotes import more than export, which has created problems to the industries.

The policy gives priority to the sector which collects more revenue rather than the industries that create employment opportunities, say the entrepreneurs. Industrialists also say that the economic policy of the country doesn’t support the industries, and it has been very hard for the industries to compete in the market.

According to Ananda Bagaria, managing director of ‘Nimbus: Cultivating Partnership’, the company had to reduce its production capacity as it was unable to manage the raw materials. The company had plans to establish itself as a chemical hub.

Nimbus produces raw materials for carpet, shoes, and other industries. Nimbus has been providing 500 tons of chemicals per month to the multi-national paste industries like Nerolac, Berger, Kansai, among others. The demand for chemical paints in the domestic market is 1,000–1,200 tons per month.

The government levies 5 percent customs tax on the chemicals imported from overseas, while it levies 15 to 20 percent tax for the raw materials used to make the chemicals. It has been learnt that the unclear revenue policy has left majority of industries in the Hetauda Industrial Estate sufferring.
