Macroeconomic Update Shows Promising Signs in Various Sectors

December 25: The new macroeconomic update unveiled by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on December 24 shows positive signs for sectoral improvement in tourism, industry as well as infrastructure in the first quarter of the current fiscal year. The signs indicate that the government is on right track in its endeavor to achieve the target economic growth for the current fiscal year.

According to the update, the country has imported large amount of infrastructural and construction materials like cement, aluminum, and steel among others in the first four months of the current fiscal year. NRB views it as an indicator to reasonable progress level of physical infrastructure development and increased economic activities in the area of industries and tourism sector. The report also shows improved occupancy rate among hotels.

Meanwhile, the NRB update also asserts gradual pickup in post-earthquake reconstruction. An engineer involved in the post-earthquake reconstruction, Mani Das, said that the reconstruction work has improved with the start of the current fiscal year. According to him, the import of construction materials has seen a massive rise, which is a positive sign.

Talking about the NRB update, Senior Vice-President of the Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FNCCI) Shekhar Golchha opines, “The government’s effort to create an investment-friendly environment in the country has led major sectors of the country towards a positive direction. If there is political stability in the country, the industrial sector will see a drastic change,” he added.
