Government to Introduce Tracking System of Goods

1 min 23 sec to read

December 24: The government is planning to impose ‘electronic cargo tracking system’ on the commodities being imported from the third countries. According to the Ministry of Commerce (MoC), the government will be imposing the tracking system from January 1.

Except Nepal’s immediate neighbours India and China, the government is preparing to impose tracking system on the commodities being imported from the other countries. According to the joint-secretary at the ministry, Rabi Shankar Sainju, the government is imposing this system to make trade easier.

“Once this system is introduced, the commodities being imported from the third countries will reach Nepal faster. The trade will be easier than before,” he added.

The ministry claims that it had tried to impose the tracking system earlier but the process was delayed as it was difficult to find appropriate vendor. The government said it will initially impose the tracking system as a testing phase. After sometime, this system will be mandatory for every importer, according to MoC.

“Currently, the Indian government locks the containers coming from the third countries to Nepal via Kolkata port. After this system is introduced, India can’t lock the containers,” he added.

After the introduction of this system, the information of commodities being imported to Nepal from third countries will be available online.
