Nepalgunj Becomes Transit Point to Mansarovar

October 16: Hoteliers and tourism entrepreneurs of Nepalgunj have become excited as the city has become a transit point to Kailash-Mansarovar. Though the Sub-Metropolitan City is not a tourist area in itself, it is a transit point for tourists visiting Western Nepal and China.

The flights from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj have been added as the flow of tourist has increased. Four-star hotels have started operating in Nepalgunj. Other star hotels like City Palace, Cygnet Inn, Krishna and at least a dozen of small hotels have been established in the city over a period of three years. Nepal’s popular Soaltee Group has started preparation for the operation of a branch in the area.

The hotels here have become capable of serving 600 tourists a day. Keshav Neupane, manager at Hotel Siddartha, said that the field has become lively as tourist influx has taken a leap. Indian tourists visit Kailash-Mansarovar taking air route from Nepalgunj to Simikot, Humla and Taklakot, China, he added. Last year, 9,000 tourists had reached Mansarovar taking the route of Nepalgunj to Simkot. The number of tourist visiting Mansarovar this year has reached 13,000.

About 7,000 tourists came to Nepalgunj from Lucknow Rupaidiha while the other 7,000 had reached there from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj by flight. Of the total tourists that visit Mansarovar, 99 percent are Indian tourists.

There are 10 flights a day, scheduled from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj after the number of tourist travelling to the destination grew. Likewise, there are 16 flights from Nepalgunj to Simikot, Humla on a daily basis.
