July 26: Nepalgunj has been exporting wheat flour worth millions of rupees to third countries. Nepalgunj-based Bikas Flour Mill has established its markets in Germany and Japan. In the fiscal year 2016/17, it exported 216,500 kilograms of flour to these countries.
According to Nepalgunj Customs Office’s communication officer Laxmi Dutta Joshi, the total amount of flour exported by the mill amounts to Rs 13.89 million. The customs office informed that the export had decreased in the last fiscal year compared to the previous year 2015/16 during which 441,985 kg of flour worth Rs 26.61 million were exported.
Local businessmen say that it is a great challenge to export goods at a time when the country is heavily dependent on imports from India.
