Online Payment Service Becomes Accountable after NRB Issues License
1 min 14 sec to read
July 7: Nepal Rasta Bank (NRB) has instructed the companies providing payment services through mobile and internet to meet the minimum paid-up capital requirement by mid-July. NRB had provided license to some companies providing online payment service just two weeks ago, nearly two years after forming policy related to online payment system through mobile and internet.
E-Sewa and IME Digital Solution Pvt Ltd were the first two companies to get the payment service provider (PSP) license to start payment through online system. Besides the two companies, 28 different banks have got permission for banking through mobile and internet while Prabhu Technology has also got the PSP license.
The NRB has set the minimum paid-up capital for companies providing card payment service at Rs 50 million while the minimum paid-up capital for companies providing payment service through telecommunication technology and internet is Rs 10 million. Likewise, the paid-up capital for companies established in Nepal but can receive payment from abroad is Rs 250 million and for those companies established abroad but operate in Nepal is Rs 300 million.
This is the first time the NRB has issued license after categorizing the companies. Earlier, there was no need for the companies to obtain license for online payment service.
Earlier, the customers were not confident about the accountability of the online payment service due to lack of regulations. But now, they can rely on online payment system as a alternative to payment through cheque or cash.

NRB had provided license to some companies providing online payment service just two weeks ago, nearly two years after forming policy related to online payment system through mobile and internet.</p>
<p>E-Sewa and IME Digital Solution Pvt Ltd were the first two companies to get the payment service provider (PSP) license to start payment through online system. Besides the two companies, 28 different banks have got permission for banking through mobile and internet while Prabhu Technology has also got the PSP license.</p>
<p>The NRB has set the minimum paid-up capital for companies providing card payment service at Rs 50 million while the minimum paid-up capital for companies providing payment service through telecommunication technology and internet is Rs 10 million. Likewise, the paid-up capital for companies established in Nepal but can receive payment from abroad is Rs 250 million and for those companies established abroad but operate in Nepal is Rs 300 million.</p>
<p>This is the first time the NRB has issued license after categorizing the companies. Earlier, there was no need for the companies to obtain license for online payment service.</p>
<p>Earlier, the customers were not confident about the accountability of the online payment service due to lack of regulations. But now, they can rely on online payment system as a alternative to payment through cheque or cash.</p>

'content' => '<p>July 7: Nepal Rasta Bank (NRB) has instructed the companies providing payment services through mobile and internet to meet the minimum paid-up capital requirement by mid-July.
