March 26: Energy Minister Janardan Sharma has called for directly putting forth the problems faced while constructing hydropower projects in the country.

He made this remark  while addressing the 50th anniversary function of the Butwal Power Company (BPC) in the capital on March 25. “Tell us directly about the problems faced while constructing the projects,” he said, adding, “We will solve them as soon as possible.”

Similarly, the Minister mentioned that the BPC has made considerable contribution in the development of the country.

“The country can develop by creating favorable environment for enabling participation of the private sector,” he emphasized.

 The minister said his Ministry is moving ahead by addressing problems in policy level including solving practical problems.

“There is a tradition of obstructing works in various excuses,” he further said, adding, “We have been moving ahead by removing those obstacles.”

Likewise, Padam Jyoti, Chairman of Board of Directors of the Company declared the launching of two projects on March 23.

The company has started 37.6 MW Kabeli 'A' in Taplejung district and 30 MW Nyadi project in Lamjung aiming to complete them by 2020.

“Within three years, we will be connecting 67.6 MW in the national grid,” he informed.

InfraCo Asia, Singapore is partnered for Kabeli 'A' in Taplejung whereas Lamjung Electricity Development Company is partnered in the Nyadi Hydropower Project.

Similarly, the company informed that 100 MW Lower Manang Marsyangdi project is also under consideration.

Established as a private limited company in 2022 BS, the company was turned into a public limited company in 2049 BS. Privatized in 2059 BS, the company has subsidiary companies that work for hydropower related construction of projects.

Under this, the subsidiary companies work on electricity generation, distribution and engineering counseling services. The companies also study on sediment and hydraulic models of rivers, produces and repairs hydro-electrical and hydro-mechanical equipments, repairs power houses and transmission lines.   

The subsidiary companies of BPC are also providing services to projects of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and other projects of other companies. Similarly, the subsidiary companies are also providing their services in foreign countries as well.

There is investment from private sector, government, employees and general public in BPC projects.
