February 15: Ncell has unveiled an exciting offer ‘Facebook Free’ in collaboration with Facebook, under the theme ‘Internet for All’. Issuing a press statement, the company informed that all Ncell customers with data capable phones can now use majority features of the popular social networking site Facebook for free.

According to the statement, all prepaid and postpaid customers will be able to post their status, upload photos, read others’ updates, like, share and post comments without any data charge via android mobile application of Facebook and browsers (except proxy enabled) under the offer. With the launch of Facebook Free, a ‘Go to Free’ button will appear on top right corner of Facebook page by default, clicking to which Ncell customers will be able to browse the free version of Facebook.

“I am delighted to unveil Facebook Free as a part of our larger vision - ‘Internet for All’, which aims at enhancing access to internet through affordable and innovative products. Social media are catalysts of internet adoption and platforms like Facebook have been enabling youth and families of migrant workers to share every moments and stay connected with their loved ones,” said Simon Perkins, Managing Director of Ncell.

As studies across the globe have shown clear link between internet access and economic growth, Simon expressed commitment to work together with the government in achieving national goals like making internet accessible in all village development committees by 2020.

“We aspire to contribute to these goals through coverage, affordability and innovative services. We have been making internet more affordable and also introducing innovative products for greater internet adoption. Having technology neutrality will provide further momentum to enhancing coverage,” said Perkins, jointly unveiling Facebook Free with Anna Nygren, Chief Representative and Head of Growth Partnerships for Asia Pacific region at Facebook.

Facebook Free is coming into effect from Wednesday, February 15 and will remain in place for 90 days. The offer is globally configured and synced with the Facebook, which do not require any activation process for customers to enjoy features under the offer.

"Viewing of others’ photos and videos in Facebook will attract charges at prevailing rates. Customers can switch to paid version which is just a click away by pressing ‘See Photos’ option that is seen in the top right corner of Facebook page, which they are browsing. Customers will also be notified if they want to switch from free to the paid version of the Facebook application," reads the statement.

To enable customers view others photos and videos at more affordable rate in paid version, customers will be able to buy data packs as per their requirements from the Facebook page. They can also buy data packs by dialing *123# and following instruction.

According to Facebook, currently more than 8 million people from Nepal are socially connected through Facebook.
