February 3: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that electricity is the main foundation of Nepal’s development.

Inaugurating the 220 KV Khimti-Dhalkebar transmission line on February 2, Prime Minister Dahal said that vested interests have obstructed the pace of construction of the development projects.

Khimti-Dhalkebar line is the first transmission line of the country with the largest capacity of 220 KV so far. Before this, there were only 11 KV, 33 KV and 132 KV transmission lines.  The construction of the Khimti-Dhalkebar 220KV double circuit transmission line was started 17 years ago and is 74 kilometers long.

Energy Minister Janardan Sharma informed that through Khimti-Dhalkebar transmission line, the electricity generated from different hydropower projects of the country can be transmitted in an integrated manner. “All national pride hydropower projects from now onwards will be constructed with the investment of the people of the concerned provinces,” he added.

Kulman Ghising, Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), informed that the project was completed with an investment of Rs 213.2 million.
