New T2 Terminal at Mumbai Airport
New T2 Terminal at Mumbai AirportMumbai’s brand new airport terminal opened on 10th January, 2014. India’s Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, inaugurated the new Terminal 2 at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) on 10 January 2014, expanding the airport’s capacity to more than 40 million passengers per year. The new terminal has four storeys and covers a total area of almost 409,000 square metres m². It will operate 24 hours a day, combining both international and domestic passenger services under one roof. Constructed in an X shape, the new T2 is designed to consolidate airport operations and reduce walking distances for passengers. Three symmetrical concourses fan out from a central area, theoretically making it easier for passengers to transfer between domestic and international flights. The design was inspired by traditional Indian pavilions. Terminal 2 also uses a special type of glass that filters the sun’s rays and controls the balance of natural light throughout the day. Skylights placed above the check-in hall will also reduce the terminal’s energy consumption by 23 per cent. (Traveldailymedia.com)

Sichuan to Build Titanic Theme Park
Titanic Theme ParkA full-size replica of Titanic will take centre stage at a new theme park in China. Located in the landlocked province of Sichuan, the theme park will be dedicated to the ill-fated ship, including a museum of Titanic memorabilia and even a 6-D cinema experience to allow guests to experience the harrowing moments onboard the ship as it sank in 1912. Other attractions at the Romandisea Seven Star International Cultural Tourism Resort will include a man-made beach and replicas of European castles and churches. The CNY1 billion (USD164 million) theme park is being developed by the Seven Star Energy Investment Group, and will be located in Sichuan’s Daying county. And while it may be more than 1,500km from the ocean, Daying is already famed for one major water-based attraction: the ‘Chinese Dead Sea’ – a huge saltwater pool. Construction on the Titanic theme park is expected to commence this year. (Traveldailymedia.com)

Russian Airports Ban All Liquids in Carry-On Luggage
Russian Airports Ban All Liquids in Carry-On LuggageAll liquids, regardless of volume, will be banned in carry-on luggage in Russian Federation airports from January 11, as Russia increases security for the Winter Olympics in Sochi, the Russian Ministry of Transport informed. Passengers undergoing pre-flight inspection are now prohibited to carry any types of reservoirs (containers, tubes, etc) with liquids (such as cosmetics for private use, toiletries, etc), including those smaller than 100 ml. All liquids must be placed in checked luggage if the flight starts from Russian Federation airports or transfer is made in a Russian Federation airport. The only exceptions are medicine, special diet requirements and baby foods, including breast milk in volume necessary for the duration of flight. All allowed liquids must pass mandatory identification. The new rules make another exception for goods bought in the “clear” zone, which includes duty free stores. (Travelandtourworld.com)
