Turkish Airlines Plane 'Overshoots' at TIA Due to Missed Approach

KATHMANDU, Aug 8: A Turkish Airlines aircraft from Istanbul overshot the runway during its approach to land at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu today (Thursday).

According to flight radar data, the plane, which was scheduled to land at 6:10 am, touched down 20 minutes later after the overshoot.

The airport office reported that the aircraft overshot due to a 'missed approach.' An air traffic controller (ATC) noted that the incident occurred following an 'unstable approach.'

The incident occurred just a day after a fatal crash of an Air Dynasty helicopter in which four Chinese passengers and the pilot were killed on the border of Kathmandu.

Earlier on March 4, 2015, a Turkish Airlines plane skidded off the runway at TIA and landed on the grassland near the runway after losing balance during landing. No major injuries were reported back then. (With inputs from RSS)
